Well, we aint sold a lot against Charlton!

Why are people talking as if they have had the upper hand for 50 years? We had the upper hand during the Warnock years.

Agree Warnock years showed we had the upper hand. It's just we' ve never absolutely thrashed them for years. One game at Hillsborough was our promotion season. Tonge and Akinbyi making it 2-0 at half time. Second half, the number of chances (and I mean real chances) that we created and missed. It could've been a cricket score. They get a late penalty and gives them a respectable 1-2 defeat. There have been other occassions when we should have seen them off big style.

That's what I want to see. I don't just want to beat them I want to humiliate them.

I'd agree with a lot of that. Wendy were lucky that they never had to face Currie/Woodward etc in the early to mid 70's. Likewise we could say that at least we never had to play them during the 80's when they were top dog in the city and certainly had a better side than we did.

Think I'm gonna waste time and energy thinking about how better they were and therefore how fortunate we were ?

I agree we had the chances to hammer them in the game you mention, but a "respectable" 2-1 defeat at home to their bitter rivals?! There's no such thing as a respectable defeat in a derby - certainly not at home.

If we were to play them at home now I'd say it was evens who would win. We have improved under Clough - and have had a great run - but we are still a League 1 side. I'm more than happy to be playing Charlton knowing that they pigs fucked it up big style and will miss out on the prize money we are guaranteed.

Do as you want for me old lad, its a free country. Don't think anyone is going to stop you thinking what ever you'd like.

Perhaps Boo, you were a tad worried that we might not beat them !

Having been there when they beat us in the 6th Rd 0-2 in 1960, when they beat us in the Semi 1-2 in 1993, and when they beat us 0-4 on that fateful Boxing Day I wanted the opportunity to see us beat them when it mattered - A place at Wembley - we will never beat them when it matters when we don't play them !!

In fact we have never stuffed them to gain revenge - even when we were 3-0 at the lane we managed to let them get a sniff by pulling back to 3-2 - I for one would just like to see us hammer them into the ground in a league match or beat them when it really, really matters

Nothing to do with The Star, Radio Sheffield or the Council - that's bollocks - I couldn't give a toss who they favour - I just want to be there to see us smash the 'Massive' when it counts !!!

Be a Blade and proud of it - Personally, I thought we stood a better chance against Wendy than we do against Charlton !!
Ok, so you're the first that was emphatic about wanting to play them because you wanted revenge for defeats that stick with you.
Apart from not being as old as you, yes i was at the others and also being 3-0 up I saw it as an opportunity at the time but it has gone. as for Boxing day I never join in singing the silly boxing day song because I don't glorify their victory over us. The biggest derby win was us winning 7-3 why do Blades fans never mention this? it is a 4 goal margin all the same?
Most who sing that Boxing day song were not even born when it happened and many others were not old enough to remember.
As for not wanting them to beat us, of course I don't. I don't want them to have any glory. Someone pointed out that in another thread (sorry I cannot remember the poster) that this cup run has been the best for many years and probably one of the best ever. we have played 6 games to get to this point, to have it ended by the pigs would really stick out and dampen everything achieved with it so far.
You are of course entitled to look forward to that revenge of the 4-0 and I will gladly celebrate as much as you when it comes but for now they can continue to rot in their rust bucket. If we get to Wenberlee and enjoy a second half season of glory it will not be lessoned because we did not play some self centered blue and white shit team.

The night they choked at home to Charlton - when their deluded fans were already talking as if they'd beaten both Charlton and us - was brilliant......I certainly haven't seen the shoutbox on here as ecstatic about the result of a game not involving us.

In a way it has been as good as beating them, I've spent nearly two weeks pissin misen.

Ticket prices are too high, should have been £10 again. Unfair on Charlton fans also as they not only have their transport costs but £20 for a ticket and they have to get to Sheffield for a 12pm KO. I'm not sure if its United's decision though? Is it the FA's final decision?

It's a joint decision... so Charlton will have agreed those prices.

Online sales are showing tickets as being limited pretty much everywhere except down sides of Kop, will be rocking on Sunday :D

Charlton have sold out so the transport problem hasn't bothered them not the price

£20 for a quarter final ticket (£15 for as season ticket holder) is cheap so I can't see the issue on that score either.

Isn't £20 the minimum price both clubs can agree to anyway ?

Our end sold out about 5 mins ago. Our fans have made a massive effort, I'm hoping our players do the same.

Hi George, great following by you guys, pity the FA gave in to BT, this could easily have been switched with the Hull game, far less travelling for the Sunderland fans and it would've made life easier for your supporters. Never mind, it'll be a great atmosphere at Bramall Lane, so safe journey there and back fella UTB

Charlton have done well if that's the case! Hopefully a win tomorrow will spur on a few more Blades to buy tickets.

Cheers mate, would have been a lot better if it had been later, a few of your locals finest would have made the day a better buzz, but its the FA Cup QF. No excuses, it should be a great atmosphere.

On TV, lets hope its a good open game and show the armchairs there is quality outside of the Sky Premiership.

Sorry Boo, you argument just does not stand up!
If as you say you are younger than me then the 7-3 victory was well before you were born as it was 10 months before I came onto this earth (If it would have been 9 months then probably would have been my dad celebrating a famous victory!)
Having looked at the records it is now 87 years since we beat them in any cup (barring the Steel City Cup or County Cup)
1927 saw our last victory over them - it would have been nice to have the opportunity of putting one over them and get to Wembley as a result !
They wouldn't have had a lot to say for themselves then would they !

We did the 5-1 double over them in 1991-1992.
If those results had been reversed, they would have been 2nd in the League and us 18th (instead of 3rd and 9th).
Those results mattered a great deal, especially as we were the underdogs and they expected to thrash us.
We're the Sheffield club that reaches cup quarter finals. They're not.

That was a top year - the match at the Rust Bucket still evokes many memories and the legend that is Bobby Davison !

Will probably be the finest night of football watching the Blades in my life. The fact no one expected anything other than a pounding up there, the fact that when Whitehouse stuck in the opener half the North Stand errupted, the fact that the weather was bloody awful making it worse for them to go home in, the fact that we could walk down Penistone Road into Town with a big Blades flag in our arms taunting the blue and white filth. Just the bare fact we humped them when they thought they were going to do us. What a night.

I travelled up to the game from Kent that day in a hire car as mine had broke down, picked up my son from school, locked myself out of the car and had to wait for the RAC to come out and unlock it, then travelled up the M1 at top speed to pick up my dad from Aston and then onto the Rust Bucket - just got into our seats as Whitehouse scored the opener - the rest as they say is history...........................................nights like that are few and far between - the journey back was special !

Who didn't want to play the filth?

Me

Infraction given

Please familiarise yourselves with the rules... particularly the ones pertaining to personal abuse. Not what we want to have to do upon getting back from the match...

Aah bobar... Somebody's woken the beast ;)

Just realised I will miss a semi if we get there :( bummer.

Bummer and semi in the same sentence :D

I know a lot of pig fans who don't like playing us either. Under Warnock we beat them home & away several times - and of course we have the better overall derby record - and so it's not just us who fear a derby defeat. As others have said, you can only enjoy a derby when the game is over and you've won or got a creditable draw.

We also hammered them from start to finish on numerous occasions and either lost or drew at Hillsborough. Horrible games.

EDIT: merged my four posts together to save on admin.

We did play them in the 1980s (just) in the league cup when the early rounds were played over two legs. We drew 1-1 at Bramall lane. I think Hatton scored for us. And lost 2-0 at Hillsborough.

I still think this is down to the police.

I'm sure they will have demanded that kick off time with the prospect of it being the Pigs and so the FA and BT kept it there.

Point understood mattbianco1, and as neither you or I were at the meeting that confirmed this we'll never know. My own take is that the piper plays the tune, so BT will have looked at it's scheduling and arrived at this time with no regard for the Charlton fans. That seems to be commonplace amongst TV companies, as they seek to gain as large an audience as possible. As I mentioned, it wouldn't have harmed to switch with the Hull game, but that might have been stretching matters a little too far as common-sense would have had to be employed.

The argument was not about when someone was born. The 7-3 was to emphasise that, that has as much relevance as to 4-0 to most who attend United games these days.
I say again they should sing more about the greatest victory in a derby game and not about our greatest defeat.
You can wallow all you want in your thirst for revenge. I also want it to happen but it is not something I think about everyday. I would rather focus on my own team and laugh about their inadequacies to even get to face us.
Let me ask you something ,If we get to the semi or even the final will it really bother you that we did not play them?

Back to the OP. I've been past BDTBL this morning and they were queing to the superstore so I guess they will have sold a fair few more.

UTB

Lets face it Boo - No matter how much you are in denial - You were afraid we would get beat by Wendy
If we don't play them we can't beat them - do you want to dodge them for ever just in case they beat us !
I would say bring them on, whilst we are not world beaters I am sure we were good enough to sort them out at BDTBL
Obviously, you thought they would bottle it !

Those games were
9/8/80 A L0-2
12/8/80 D1-1

Hatton did score our goal in the latter game. Curran equalised but after an hilarious miss at the Kop end when he rounded Derek Richardson and from about 10 yards out shot over the bar :-)

We had 2 other games v Wed in the 80's

5/4/80 D3 H D1-1 (MacPhail)
21/11/89 ZDSC A L2-3 (Deane, Booker)
