Lets face it Boo - No matter how much you are in denial - You were afraid we would get beat by Wendy
If we don't play them we can't beat them - do you want to dodge them for ever just in case they beat us !
I would say bring them on, whilst we are not world beaters I am sure we were good enough to sort them out at BDTBL
Obviously, you thought they would bottle it !

I don't think anybody thought we would bottle it.

My reasoning for wanting Charlton is that we have outperformed already in the competition. We're not going to win the cup and we will eventually get beat. We have already beaten 3 teams from divisions above, the probability factor is that we can't carry on.

If Charlton win, yes it will be disappointing but if SWFC beat us it would've been horrible.

Gambler's fallacy. The fact that we have beaten 3 teams ablove us previously has no bearing, probability wise, on whether we beat Charlton.

I'm sure that some thought [I did] that we are a bit fragile at the moment to lose a big game to them.

Remember what '79 did to our promotion bid.

They will be many times in the future when we beat them.

You first with answering the questions.

We did play them in the 1980s (just) in the league cup when the early rounds were played over two legs. We drew 1-1 at Bramall lane. I think Hatton scored for us. And lost 2-0 at Hillsborough.

Was at both those matches - we were particularly shite at the Sty.

Does gamblers fallacy apply here? Using the toss of the coin example from wikipedia, the next coin toss isnt a fair toss. There are all sorts of factors which influence the game - home advantage, team confidence, weather, ability.... of course, I could be

We have won the last three rounds, we are more likely to lose in teh next round = Gamblers Fallacy

We are the lowest ranked team in the competition and all the other teams are better than us ≠ Gamblers Fallacy

..... the reaults from the previous rounds have no bearing on the result of the next round. Gotcha...

Gambler's fallacy is interesting as, although we can all see the fallacy, we still tend to "feel" the fact that an improbable event has happened 3 times makes it more likely that it won't happen a 4th time.

Thus, it's very rare that teams win 8 games in a row. The fact that we have won 7 in a row makes some of us "feel" that it is less likely we will win tonight, even though that feeling has no logical basis.

Hence the fallacy...

Except they perhaps do in this case. Once a lower division side has caused an upset, if they play a side above them in the next round (as is happening to use for the third time) there are factors which come into play ie: lower side is more confident having previously beaten a higher division side and the higher division side may be more weary of defeat and therefore more nervy leading to a below par performance.

Just had a look at the available seats online. Only a few handfuls of single seats available in the South Stand. Most of the centre and back of the Kop is sold out, but plenty of seats down the sides. How come the John Street is not available? Does that mean it is sold out or is it not available online?

Not avaiable online mate cos its the family stand and anybody cud buy them

You can buy tickets in John Street but I think it's only over the phone or in person.

It'll be close to a sell out after that result tonight - another clean sheet after 6 changes - fantastic display.

Clough with another master stroke with Davies and his dead ball situations - makes all the difference in tight games

Does anyone know why you cant register online? I have a customer number but I've never bought tickets online before as I've just either popped in or rung up, I'm struggling to get up this week due to work and i don't fancy racking up a humongous phone bill or listening to 'can you hold me' for half an hour!
