In his interview about Stearman with that dope Buchan on RS, Chris makes a sarcastic point about us being a club with no ambition that are in for a relegation scrap. I loved that! Because Buchan has been talking about us as being in a relegation battle all summer.

He's so dopey though that he didn't even realise Wilder was poking fun at him.

Excellent!

Perhaps he was poking fun at some of our moronic fans who have been slagging the club for showing an apparent lack of ambition in the transfer market.

Him and Staton get on my nerves sometimes. They both talk as if they know more about football than anyone else and can be really short and condecending to some callers.

Giddings seems alright to me though

It'd be miles better if all the presenters just admitted who they supported and spoke freely, giving their actual opinion.

Then the programmes would be genuine, and it'd be more like a normal football forum or having a chat with your mates down the pub.

From the times I've met the presenters they are sound people, wouldn't say a bad word about them personally.

They can't do that it's the BBC and they got remain impartial

I'm sure they're good lads.... it just gets bit irritating when a caller gets pulled up mid flow for some minor factual error. We all get the jist anyway and don't need to know that player X didn't play for club Y 5 years ago

One of them openly admits he supports Halifax Town.

In the recent Praise and Grumble anniversary celebrations they interviewed loads of ex presenters.
As some hadn't presented for years they were free to ask them who they supported.

They mentioned their teams, I remember many said they were Blades but also most of them said
'You might start off supporting United or Wednesday but when you work with all the local clubs on a daily basis you grow a like for certain managers and players and overtime you do develope a GENUINE fondness for all the local teams'.

It's similar to many players end up supporting (in a fashion) most of the clubs they've played for.
Kevin Davies (ex Bolton) was interviewed a few weeks ago and he said he was brought up a Blade but now has a strong affection towards Bolton and he said his kids support Bolton.

Derek Dooley was brought up a big Wednesday fan but overtime working at the Lane he developed genuine feelings towards United. During interviews he said many times that he genuinely supports both Sheffield clubs.

So maybe all the presenters ARE now neutral and support all the local clubs.

the impartiality part has always confused me because look at 1 of the most long running & successful football shows on sky sports, Soccer Saturday. everybody knows that
Jeff supports Hartlepool,
Charlie nicholas & Paul merson > arsenal.
Matt Le tisser > Southampton
Phil Thompson > Liverpool

noone has ever had a problem with that

It's a commercial station though. If they thought there was a commercial impact to saying who they supported they wouldn't do it.

Imagine the anger if they all said they were pig fans on Football Heaven on the BBC. People would be writing to their local MP screaming that they pay their license fee the same as pig fans do; so why should they get special treatment!

Even going back to Match of the Day

Jimmy Hill would always show he supports Coventry City
And Gary Lineker doesn't hide that he supports Leicester City

Even on the radio
Danny Baker never hid that he supports Millwall on BBC national radio phone in.
Jason Cundy supports Chelsea and is openly very biased towards Chelsea.
Same with Andy Goldstein towards Man United.
Alan Brazil towards Celtic (he even makes jokes up about Rangers)
Danny Baker towards Spurs etc etc

There is sort of a commercial impact. Every time I see Phil Thompson I want to go out, buy a gun, and shoot him in the nose.

I ran a focus group that involved Paul Mersin. He's a massive Chelsea fan believe it or not.

I thought it was a dig at Ryan Bennett to be honest who said he joined Wolves because he didn't want to be involved in a relegation battle with us

Our lads have got some right points to prove this season. Everybody in the local media, all our rivals and even some of our own fans saying we're gonnna be in a relegation scrap. They'll not need a team talk all season. I'm looking forward to this class team shoving it so far up so many arses.

Gu'on Blades

The difference with local media though is if we knew that none of the 3 supported the Blades, they would lose even more listeners than they have done already. If they all stated their clubs, they would need to employ a 'representative' for each club so as not to be biased.

Thats why the atmosphere will be brilliant this season, not saying every match will be a cup final but we will be going in with a " feeling" every time, cannot wait.

You make a very good point. The thought that they are so important and influential that listeners couldn't cope with knowing who they support is simply laughable. No fucks given and we know anyway. Bob Jackson; Paul Walker; Seth Bennett - all Blades.

Don't agree with your last paragraph though. The self-importance of the local radio hack is in inverse proportion to his ability. The way they purport to judge whether someone's making a good point or not is particularly arrogant. Having played and watched the game longer than their combined lifetimes I really don't require the seal of approval or otherwise of two or three junior reporters, one of them quite obviously a sixth former on work experience.

Don't worry too much. Their views simply reach more people. They don't carry an ounce greater weight than yours; in many cases considerably less. Danny04 excluded of course... ❤️⚔️

he hid that well. because now i find it strange ok he played for them but why get so angry about arsenal if he supports the big rivals chelsea

Also pulled him up on not knowing anything about the deal and that he always leaks the news.

Did you hear right at the start where Buchan nearly called him Sheerman but stuttered so he actually just said "Richard Shit Stearman"
