Yep pleased with a win. Very pleased. But....

Adkins described it as 'at times exhilarating'. Is he having a laugh?

First half was as wretched and turgid as any of the crapola we have been served up this season.

Second half very slightly better, but of course we sat back and let them come onto after a 10 minute spell of positivity during which we scored.

A win is worth 3 vital points. I'm delighted with that. But let's be honest - it was a piss poor one goal win against a very ordinary port vale side.

I may have set my expectations too low, but I thought today was pretty good. The 352 looked like it suited our players. Port vale created nothing but perhaps that was because we didn't let them. We seemed to have more bodies around and won more 2nd ball than I can remember. We also had a bit of width from brayford and good movement up front. Bashan also looks a different prospect with the game in front of him in this formation.

In addition, apart from Flynn we had mostly round pegs in round holes, and when we had to change the personnel we didn't need to change the shape.

Adkins can't improve the players, but he may have found a pattern of play to mitigate their weaknesses. Let's hope so.

Not amazing buta deserved win 2-0 would have been a fair result. Allus helps when pigs loys as well. UTB !
