It's been a while since I posted on here, probably when you off loaded Ryan Leonard to Millwall. But it would be wrong if I didn't drop in and say bloody well done for escaping a very difficult Championship league. I like to think that Southend played a small part in your success when we came to Bramall Lane and sniffed a 3-0 win. After that your season kicked started with continued success which has now ended up in a ticket for the Premiership. I have no idea how you will get on amongst the elite, but I wish you every success. Good luck for your last game you Northern monkeys and thanks for the abuse you've sent my way and for giving me the opportunity to abuse you all back.

Yeah, can't wait. 8k of Mackems roaring into town on a bank holiday week end and only 2.5k with tickets. Should be a bit lively. I'm actually bricking it as it's three points or FL2 next season. Piece of piss really, after all they have lost three games this season.

Fair play. In my head you’re now orange with plucked eyebrows. :)

If only you had a flat cap like mine....
Woah, that's a strange place inside your head I think. Phil Brown was, and still is, orange and now enjoys success managing Pune City in India so I'm certaInly not copying him. Flat hats? several, I was wearing them before they were cool and now I'm old enough to need them to keep the body heat in!

Very well said, sir. Not for the first time, Rootshallbloke captures the essential spirit of yer interweb football forum in the pithiest of phrase.

Good luck to you lot, and RugRon (possibly my favourite pantomime villain of the Division 3 years) next season, and thanks for the memries.

Congratulations mate, a bit tense at the end there!

Well done, lad - and thanks for the praise.

I well remember sitting at Bramall Lane on that chilly evening on 16 August 2016 and thought 'Who is this Northern monkey we've got as our latest manager? This Chris Wilder geezer?' Five years in the third tier and we were 0-3 down after 15 minutes. Could life get any worse after duffer managers like Clough, Blackwell, Adkins etc? We'd finished the previous season in eleventh place in Division One - our worst finish in 33 years - our beloved rivals across the city were 'on the up' and times were grim.

If I remember rightly, your manager Phil Brown (and his assistant Brian Horton) were sat just in front of me and Brown was serving a ban and was sitting in the stand. Phil gestured to the referees assistant and asked if it was all right to pass a message to the stand-in manager on the touchline. I thought 'Haven't mobile phones reached Sarfend yet?' :D

But that's the beauty of The Beautiful Game. No piss-taking between our teams. No wondering why you hadn't brought ten thousand to watch this midweek match. No thinking that we should be steam-rollering teams like Southend. We're not like Wednesday or Leeds - we know our place and how the fortunes of football can easily change.

Bugger. That's another team whose results I'll be looking out for next season and wishing all the best...

Keep the faith, things will get better.

Thanks for the good wishes chaps, yesterday was a bit special. Can't sleep this morning and I still have an inane grin on my face. As a good mate of mine tweeted:

Good luck pal for the future. Little story of mine from back in the eighties, it was a time when we managed by Ian Porterfield, it was i think one of the last games of the seasonthe Blades were playing down at Southend, I was working on my car (ford capri 1600) at the time replacing the exhaust sys on own at home in the drive, United I had the radio on and at that time I can't remember now if radio commentaries were being done then on local radio esp the beeb but it could have been Hallam FM, anyway I digress.
I had the radio to keep listening for the match reports (actually more like what soccer sat is today on sjy but just on the radio), I was underneath said car and just at the crucial moment of fitting the new second section of the exhaust system, the station went over live to rootshall for an update when all of a sudden the commentator/reporter "you come just at the right time blades are on the attack, kevin arnott picks the ball up in the middle of the park, goes running through the middle with the ball, into the box and shoots....SCORESSSSSSS Kevin Arnott for Sheffield United with virtually the last attck of the game...etc etc", at which point i forget i am underneath said car and try to jump up...(not very clever)...something like this large bang...."Ouch you stupid eff....eff..effing...t*atting...perhaps the odd c word expletive...OUCH MY CHUFFIN HEAD", Thanks Ozzie Arnot....:D:D:D

P.S yes I did eventually do the exhaust the following day, just in case the CAR RSPCC are reading.

I watched the game, I must admit I thought you were down till mask man popped up. Sunderland were poor imo and that's not taking anything away from you guys, the ref was making you sweat with the 6 mins injury time that went into 8 mins. Well done for stopping up.

I agree, they were poor, but there again they were already in the play-offs with not a lot to play for. We, on the other hand, have been total shite all season so it was nice that the team finally turned up in terms of effort and wanting to win more than they did. You may remember John White going down injured late in the second half, well he played the last 20 mins with a broken arm, I was impressed.

Cheers Rootshallbloke, and congratulations on yesterday! I've never been to Roots Hall but always wanted to go, and to combine this with a long walk on your amazing pier, and a jug of whelks ( not joking, I luv 'em!). Good luck next season!

Congratulations. I watched the game with a mate from Southend. Excellent late drama to clinch it.
