Huge respect to Lizzie Jones for her heart-warming rendition of Danny Boy.

(Danny Jones was her husband who tragically died playing Rugby League for Keighley Cougars from an undiagnosed heart condition.)
Much respect to the Rugby League community for their support in raising over £250,000 as a trust fund for their twins.

What a inspirational brave widow she is.
What an awful year 2015 has been.

When you get to a certain age Davie, the years don't get any easier. Listen to me, the miserable old twat I am. You know what I mean.

Many are cynical about this show but the intention is good and the remembrance bit is always moving. Howard Kendall in there also. It is pleasing they do not forget anyone. We all know about our heroes but they were many I did not know in this section but would be equally as well respected as someone else's hero.
Well done for the respectful way this is always done Beeb.

There must be a Blade in the SPOTY producing team.

Hodgy was in the game for his whole life including International playing and coaching so it's only slightly surprising he was included. Woody was a one-unfashionable-club man, so it's a surprise to me that he featured. Delighted of course.

Who's the Blade, bless him or her?

Dunno about there being a Balde in there, but there is certainly a pig. But yes, nice touch.

As for Davie Blade 's comments on Lizzie whatsherface, don't believe the spin. She is certainly not an inspirational brave widow. I suspect her moment in the spotlight will be shattered by the Daily Mail any day now.

She an immigrant?

If Enniss came 3rd, what do we name after her this time ..............................

Go on. Spill the beans.

Didn't see SPOTY. No idea who she is or who her husband was but, as it's been related here, this sort of performance chucks a bucket of cold water over the slumbering cynic in me which wakes up shouting at the sentimentalising of what is in fact gruesome exploitative self-promotion.

Or maybe she's genuine.

Not sure - though it could be LucyBlade - who was Happy Hippy's daughter. I've lost touch, but I know she went to Uni in London and did work placements with the BBC (I think in sports) and was looking for a future "behind the scenes". If there is a Blade in there, it could well be Lucy.

Thanks Sheepdip - any clues about your name? Love it !!

Let me guess. You're a rural Derbyshire Blade, farmer, security-dye your sheep in red and white stripes, drive a red tractor and a red quad bike, work 5am to 3 pm Satd'ys, encourage Badgers, scare owls off the farm.

Close - kid from a Barlow family who grew up to work with Greenpeace and later Derbyshire Wildlife Trust - but who spent more time as a youth worker specialising in rural affairs. And the dye is used to show which ewes have been tupped more than for security!

Well, well, well.........all these years I thought it was security:) What did farmers do before they dyed them? Must say it spoils the aesthetic appearance and was never like that in the old days - or was it?:)

"Grew up with Greenpeace" ?! Before I embarrass myself again, THE Greenpeace? and THE Derbyshire Wildlife Trust?! Good on'yer fellow Blade.:D

Why are you bothered with something as inconsequential as United? Must be family!!

Oh deary me.
Lizzie has successfully campaigned to have cardiac screening made compulsory across all professional and semi-professional tiers of rugby league. At a time of such personal tragedy, she put her efforts into helping to prevent other families going through what she and the rest of the Jones family have.

What a pathetically sad slur on the privacy of the Jones family.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

Isn't there something even slightly suspect about belting out anthems in front of a 60 000+ crowd as a form of grief?

I note that the first two words on both those videos are Lizzie Jones.

Nice dress.

Perhaps it's just me but she didn't seem to show much grief during her performance at SPOTY. She seemed highly delighted actually.

I wonder how many giving out to Lizzie Jones; actually know that she is a classically trained singer whose late husband went along to most of her performances and said I want you to perform everywhere.

I am never one to judge how anyone else should cope with their own personal grief.
To me it is a a very individual thing, of which NO ONE should ever judge anybody else, for not reacting in the way they want them to.
Nothing more to add on the subject.

Nah mate - folks just nicked 'em and then got hung for their troubles - sheep or lamb!

Yep - the Greenpeace. worked out of the Sydney office for a while, then on the Rainbow Warrior 2, then ran Greenpeace in Derbyshire for 5 years - and the DWT where we worked with peregrine falcons

And my generation are 3rd generation Blades (like many on here I guess) - 5 generations in the family now! Our most notable Blades would have been the two Shaw brothers who played at full back for us with Grahame being capped. Mothers cousins I think, so not actually within the immediate family - but close enough to bask in the reflected glory!

You involved in the wildlife stuff then?

Only since we started travelling a lot in retirement. We go to India soon on a railway/ touring/ bird watching holiday with "twitcher" pals who have a few days booked in birding areas, so we'll tag along on those I'm sure. Enjoy it and it takes us to areas we wouldn't otherwise be visiting. Not too keen on snakes though!

We were in Sydney again last year and would love to spend more time there. I could have moved to Melbourne years ago but didn't want to unsettle the kids again. Didn't enjoy working with Aussies much either.

Running Greenpeace for 5 years must have been some experience. Did any of your team get arrested? ( don't include Baxter type arrests!). Win any glorious victories, make national/ international news ever? I've not googled it yet.

Where were the peregrine falcons? Did you see them demolish any owls?!!

Graham Shaw was supreme. Bernard was quality too, but not international class like his brother.

Fine. It is a nice dress though isn't it?

This isn't just lazy cynicism btw.

She didn't and doesn't look even remotely genuine to me.

And it is just possible that she's exploiting the circumstances for personal gain. In which case wholehearted endorsements are going to look pretty naive.

Just as cynical questioning will look pretty daft if she really means it.
