Regardless of whether you want him to be manager of Sheffield United or not, on balance, do you think he will still be manager in August?

most definately. CAn't afford to sack and he's too stubborn to walk. Ask me if i think he will be here in January, i think i'll give you a different answer!

Yes. Cant see the board changing him. Whether I agree with it or not the board seem to think the amount of loanees, the inury crisis, etc are mitigating factors as to why he has not achieved his targets. He seems to be already planning for next year so I cant see us going through the upheavel of changing managers when we have so much rebuilding to be done in a short space of time.

I can't see him going. There was not indication from the fans forum last week that he would be.

No he won't be manager next season, but I think he will of been offered a role in the "family" of clubs.

Blader. you say he is too stubborn to walk but he already tried to do it once before.

I would strongly disagree with that, I would say there was no indication that he would stay which is surprising for a manager with 2 years contract still outstanding.
McCabe was asked directly and tried to evade the issue finally saying "he hoped" he would be here. Keeping in mind that Birch is in charge of day to day matters, he said nothing.
Why wouldn't they just say he has two years left on his contract, been unlucky with injuries and as far as they were concerned the managers position isn't up for discussion.
Now that would be backing, what we got was a non-answer and the fact that performances haven't been good enough, the wrong players have been brought in etc.

Your right McCabe could have worded his response in a more positive way towards Blackwell staying but I still think that it suggests he won't be sacked. Also, when asked about bring players in so that they have a full pre-season, Trevor Birch said they were working with Blackwell and the scouting team to identify targets. If there was any indication that Blackwell wasn't going to be the manager then surely they'd be waiting for the new person before identifying targets.

Unless they are looking at Blackie overseeing the scouting for all our "family" of clubs and looking at getting better players coming through all of them.
This was mentioned in the forum (not the Blackie bit) but that they want this to have an overhaul.

P.S. I don't think Blackwell will be sacked, I just don't think he will be the manager next season.

He's under contract and his boss has given no hint that his job is in danger, so I'd be amazed if he were not to be here come August. I just hope that all this work Blackwell and Birch are claiming to be doing to recruit goes well, please no more loans!!!

Yes he will be, sadly.

I believe that the chairman thinks that Blackwell is the best person for what he is aiming to do.
Consolidate in this league and sell off players whenever a decent offer comes in, I can't imagine his wages will be high either. It's irrelevant what the football is played like.

King Kev will not walk away from his throne. Has no one seen how stubborn he is?

I'd be very surprised if the baord got rid of their favourite yes man. As Coily points out 'cheap as chips' is (in the boards eyes) the best man for the job right now. Unfortunately they have a very different idea of what success looks like than we do.

I'll say it again, you think this despite him already walking away once and being talked round by KM.

now that i've calmed down a bit and the season has ended then i'll give him more time.. on reflection i'm inclined to think that the blame of this years debacle should be laid at the doorstep of the chairman.. kb will have to work some kind of miracle over the summer though because i think that the fans patience is wearing thin entertainment wise

I can't see any reason why he wont be there come august. I dont know what to make of his tactics and I have massive doubts about his ability to push us forward but I can't see him walking or being sacked. I think KM and TB have made it quite clear that he isn't going anywhere and despite a bad reaction from sections of our support he has enough backing from other supporters to keep him in the job. He clearly isn't feeling as much pressure as he did after last year's playoff final so why would he walk????

I would be very surprised if he's not our manager at the start of next season. I've given over criticising him now. My view is let him get on with the job until he does go (whenever that may be).

This is a key point but my perception of that situation was that KB was feeling sorry for himself and didnt really want to go. If he was strong willed and was genuinely serious about it KM wouldnt have been able to talk him round. His interview after the PO final was a knee-jerk reaction and he retracted it as soon as the chairman calmed him down.

If he hasnt suggested walking this time round, why would he after last time?

Then again, who knows how his mind works????

I think he will be here in August but Im not sure if he will by the end of September.

I think he has so little goodwill banked with the fans that if we dont get off to a flyer things will turn nasty quickly for our talentless arrogant inept prick of a manager, and when he goes he can feel free to take Sam "Football Dinosaur" Ellis with him too.

I want him as far away from BDTBL as possible but I think I will be dissapointed and he will still be giving out the hugs in August.

The only way he wont be here is if he resigns....................

Of course he will still be here unless EVERYBODY who is not happy with the appalling style of hoofball he played for the majority of the season writes to McCabe and Birch and asks for his removal.

He will NOT walk. Reason ...... he wouldn't get another job in the Championship, because nobody else would have him. (unless some teams board wanted a YES man to oversee the dismantling of a team and needed a suitably "cheap as chips" scapegoat).

Blackwell is a lower division manager.

Can you even say he is that? Luton Town record Played 47 W 16 D10 L21 I think he was a good number 2 at best.

It's an interesting rumour. Is this based on the same source you heard about Sean O Driscoll from or just speculation? Also, if the other rumours about him bullying and being unpopular with the Academy players are true. Why would United move him into a role where he's be expected to nurture young players?

I echo the general sentiment of most in that he will, unfortunately, still managing United come August. I say 'unfortunately' because I feel I've been bored into submission.

I think he will be here but not as manager of the first team. I've had this thought since the forums because Kevin McCabe didn't seem too thrilled with some of the football we played during the season and when asked if Blackwell would be staying he didn't seem too sure.

Sadly, i believe that he will still be in charge next season. Heard from a very reliable source within the club that he has been in a really good mood over the last few weeks. Probably because he knows his job is safe for the time being.

I think FB meant he would be offered a role similar to the one Robson was offered, however god help us if he's in charge of bringing new players in after some of the dross we've seen through the Bramall Lane revolving door of late.

Just to put another slant on the thread, this was a conversation between a manager and guest at a dinner a couple of weeks ago:

Guest "Are you going to try and sign Billy Sharp in the summer?"
Manager "I've got no chance of getting him"
Guest "Why?"
Manager "Because everyone knows he's going back to Sheff U with O'Driscoll"

Cue the abuse ;)

Same story I heard but didn't post, although I tipped the wink to a few via PM's. I wonder if it was from the same source? ;)
