So our Hecky hasn’t got a great managerial record has he?

Everything else aside with politics around the club and various theories as to what is going on we have a new manager that hasn’t exactly got a great pedigree.

I’ll be backing him and the lads tomorrow and getting behind them, and I’d love him to be a success for us.

My inclination is that we will get a new manager bounce, more intensity and attacking intent from the lads. But and it’s a big but he hasn’t had success anywhere he’s been previously when in the number one position for a sustained period. Let’s hope this is the making of him.

I don't think his managerial record has got going that much for any of us to judge and stats can easily be manipulated to suit an agenda.

At Barnsley, his win % wasn't the highest but there are a fair few draws in there and he did get them promoted to the Championship and then finish 9th in there, which for Barnsley is a couple of good seasons. Mostly they're expected to struggle at this level. You could say a promotion to the Championship and a 9th placed finish by the age of 41 is well ahead of what Wilder was achieving at that age.

He did well enough to be poached by Leeds.

At Leeds he was given just 16 games and not a single transfer window but did introduce some younger players. I don't see how that is any period to judge a guy. It's even less than Jokanovic.

At Hibs, he won more than he lost and was there less than a year, in a period ravaged by injuries. Some of the Hibs guys are sympathetic, saying Doidge's poor finishing cost them a lot.

He also did slightly better in terms of points per game than Wilder last season.

So he has a foundation. Let's see if he can kick on.

I wouldn’t haven’t chosen Hecky but he isn’t the main problem. The main problem is the Board, who have already indicated there will be outs and not ins in Jan - presumably some or all of the few decent players we have. Their notion that we can build the team around the Academy is ludicrous and would just see a fairly speedy return to L1. We need to mix the better academy players with bought in quality.

McCabe wasn’t the answer but neither are this lot. We desperately need new owners.

Nice one, really good positive breakdown.

Let’s hope that all the experience above helps this job for us be the making of him. 👍🏻

If you recall, Bassett had just been sacked by Watford, Warnock was well on the way out at Bury and Wilder was probably lucky not to have been binnee at Oxford.

It all comes down to how they do at our club. Nothing else really matters.

He won't embarrass us in press conferences. He knows the players. He's likely to play to their strengths a lot more. As long as he is left to do his job then it's time to back him and hope he's the right man at the right time for us.

I'm not sure why people are focussing on this so much as a negative.

Barnsley. Won them a cup. Got them promoted and finished top half next season with next to no budget. He got an award from the Yorkshire Post.

Leeds. Basically used as a fall guy. Brought in then they had a new owner. He was tasked with getting rid of all their overpaid failures so not popular with the players and poor results. Always going to be replaced by a big name (Bielsa in this case).

Hibs. Started off really strongly. They finished in the top 6 but something kicked off with the players towards the end and next season was pretty disastrous.

It's hardly a great managerial record but he spent 2 years at Barnsley, a few months at Leeds and less than a year at Hibs.

I think this is the exact way of looking at it for now.

He’s had one good spell and two bad spells. In the great scheme if managerial short termism, I’d call it “noise” and have no real view on his credentials.

Well he will be getting our backing I’m sure of that.

Hopefully we get a performance that as a fan base gets us interested again. Get some atmosphere back into the ground.

Hi Stegosauris here

And we've got lumbered with him for 4 years. Should have given him a years contract to see
I’m told most contracts have yearly break clauses, and the cost of sacking them wold be one years salary.

Is part of that down to the fact it’s not gone the right way for him at those clubs though? If you are performing you don’t get the sack.

I don’t think either the Board nor PH said there would be no “ins”, but there would be “outs”.
Ever the rose tinted optimist I am expecting a couple of “ins” by February !
Surely the 800 technical staff referred to in today’s press as being in United World, can find a couple !!

I look at him, and I see what he achieved last season, and I think he’s a loser.

I hope to God he proves me wrong.

Good luck. You’ll need it with this squad and this board.

What did he "achieve" last season as you put it? Not sure you meant achieve judging by the tone of the rest of your post but please substantiate what you mean.

I don't think that many are having a go at Hecky - Its the appalling bigger picture that are the board - holding co - Utd World - CEO - etc etc -

The day to day stuff is pepper in fly shit compared to the lack of direction - or the frightening picture that is being implied by the clowns who delivered the press conference on Thursday.

I have been involved with boards / strategic plans (composing them for my own company and facilitating other organisations to build theirs) for many years but the stuff i saw on Thursday and how it was delivered was one of the worst PR events i have ever witnessed. No regards for the customers - ie me , you and the rest of our marvellously supported club . There was almost contempt for us. Absolutely no understanding of the emotional connection supporters have with their clubs and no attempt to come up with any direction at all .

If that is the best we have then god help us

They are a disgrace in my opinion

The thing that is baffling is we seem to have decided he's the man to completely shape our football club going forward. He was there in the summer but they never thought that was a good idea then. Is he really the best bet to move us forward? Pretty worrying.

3 wins in 12 games. Not much of an achievement though that’s mainly on the players.
Dropped in at the Deep end after CW walked, players in shock, up against PL opposition and gave Ndiaye, Jebbison, Seriki their debuts, with a squad tgat had effectively given up, 3 wins is bloody good going all things considered

Four goals scored. That’s on the players, but he wasn’t getting much of a tune out of them, as the saying seems to go.

I’m outraged about everything. Outraged we aren’t spending £250m in the transfer window. I once bought 2 pies at half time, where’s the money gone?! Outraged we’re developing youth - they’re like players but smaller, what’s the point? Outraged we’re spending money on facilities when everyone knows Real Madrid train in a Lidl carpark. However I’m at my most outrageously raging about the Chairman daring to not speak like one of us, rip his shirt off, punch a journalist in his lizard nose and recite at least 2/3 of the Braveheart speech. Worlds gone mad.

I think there are quite a lot writing him off already, which is odd considering he did ok when he came in last year.

In terms of the press conference. It was basically a business press conference, badly done. Without any genuine understanding of the fact most interested people are football fans and not in the financial world.

From painful experience, the strategy stuff in businesses is generally done very badly. And the articulation is usually worse! I'm glad that decisions about the day to day running of the club will now be taken here and not through murky channels. I'm glad they are at least publicly stating that the future is through developing players and the infrastructure.
