Yes, with orthodox wingers who get round the back of defenders…and cross the fucking ball.

Apologist for the bollox idea of inverted wingers ...
Look at L foot Brooks cross from the L for our goal yesterday.
Crosses of any length , short or long , create chances when they are delivered from BEHIND the opposing FB , as close as possible to the BYELINE.
INVERTED WINGERS CAN FUCK OFF.
they became fashionable in billionaires teams with highly skilled GENUINELY TWO-FOOTED PLAYERS.
They are NO USE to 90% of clubs.

How long have had this saved to post 😂, surprised you lasted as long as you did post goal.

Was it a cross or was it a shot? As discussed in the other thread. Not particularly arsed either way as it ended up in back of the net and we won, so all good.

Agree 100%!!!

I think we have not found a way to make the inverted wingers work. You need your full backs to give you the width, in this set up and we have never found that balance. I also think we have a lot of player suited to a counter attacking game, but we slow ourselves down constantly with checking back inside. So having a more conventional balance may simply suit our needs more.

YES FOOKING PLEASE!!

I noticed before the substitutions we kept our shape defensively pretty good, a couple of hiccups, but overall a huge improvement. But once the subs came on it got chaotic. Whether that was due to Watford opening up more not sure. May also be why we concede a lot late on as subs not as sure of the set up as the starters. Still, nice to see Cannon left on the bench and let that menace Ings keep their defence from roaming forward.

When I used to play in the beer belly league on Sundays, I was a lone striker and when I made gut-busting runs into the box to get on the end of crosses, only for the scrawny little twat on the wing to come inside…I used to go fookin bananas.
My much laboured point is…It must be wank being a lone striker at the Lane these days.

100% agree

Just look at Man City's first goal yesterday.

Nico O'Reilly (left footed) receives ball on left hand side near bye-line. Everton central defenders are bricking it and both move into the goal area facing their own goal. They don't have a Scooby Do where Haalnad is. He pulls himself away from all of the chaos of the goal area and receives a pin point cross. Totally unmarked. 58th minute. 1-0. Game over.

The wing backs scare me few times they didnt track back leaving Watford players too much time in acres of space. A better team would have punished us yesterday the shape doesn't look.good at times.
