It's fucking suicide. We don't have enough possession or create enough chances to warrant it. We've got to try and become compact as this is currently embarrassing. We should be starting with Mcburnie up top and playing Davies (or anyone who will stick a foot in) in midfield. If we can't win, we need to try and not lose. Hecky has to find a way of getting a tune out of these players or he'll be gone very soon. We'll beat Derby's record if we continue with these tactics.

We lost 8-0 last week with one upfront.
 
And if we do play two we can't afford one to be a small, weak passenger
 
it’s more the fact we’ve only got 1 actually midfielder on the pitch. We didn’t play Mcatee in cm all last season in championship so why Hecky now thinks he can play deeper in the prem is madness.

Bang on.

Hopefully that display shows Hecky we can't continue to play a midfield 3 of Souza,Hamer, McAtee as there's no balance or protection for the defence.

That’s the midfield that many on here were calling for a couple of weeks ago.

Good news that Davies & Slimane can now be considered ready to start.

We cannot play Macatee, Hamer & Archer. We just get rolled over in midfield

west ham had declared by then weve a team of championship quality players going against multi million pound international players week in week out as much as i dont think hecky is a premier league manager the cards he has been dealt has given him absolutely zero chance of survival by abdullah and bettis

By Abdullah. Bettis has nothing to do with how much money is available. And that’s the bottom line.
 
Illy was such an important player for us last season because of his tracking back. It was common to see him dispossessing opponents near his own penalty area. I would be tempted to play another body in midfield and push McAtee/Hamer forward.

Effectively we had a two man midfield, neither of whom were very mobile.

Today's midfield was also too attack minded. We wanted Hamer and McAtee to give us creativity, but it's hard for them to do that AND give us enough defensive solidity. I remain unconvinced either player can play today's roles at this level, especially both of them at the same time, and in away games. Maybe Davies needs to come in for one of them if we're sticking with 5-3-2.

My impression of Souza so far is a bit mixed. He's strong, brave and can put in a tackle. But he's not very tenacious and does struggle to cover enough space. And he takes breathers, sometimes out of position. On occasions he decides to mark a random opponent, conveniently forgetting that he's supposed to be the shield in front of the centre halves and track runs into the box. Both goals were scored by midfielders running into the box, with Souza nowhere near.

You might be right about two up top not working.

I would be interested to see if we start playing McAtee behind Archer OR McBurnie.

We're so lacking in options though. Slimane unsure about so far, Davies looks overweight currently, Norwood universally written off (legend IMO)... Osborn?

Wilder invented over lapping centre halves yes.

Hecky did at time and second half today we saw it a lot more with Basham.
