When a point at home to Walsall is apparently a good result thats when you realise the team you have supported for 25 years are officially shit. It also hits home when you have very little chance of getting a point or 3 against Leyton Orient who have spent most of there existence in the lower 2 divisions. I am not going down the big club road but it makes me so angry when i look at our last 25 years and see how good we can be.

I can't say i am expecting much from the next 25 years.

At my age, it's a bit unlikely that I'll have to go through that, but it's not much of a bargain either way.

We are not officially shit, however we are officially giving the club, players and management an excuse for being shit. We are or should be better than what we are seeing and it fucks me off that everyone says well all the players are shit so we are where we should be. We are actually a better team/squad that finished 5th place last season so let's not give them an excuse, we should be expecting more from them.

I have had enough of excuses

Officially shit huh? Do we get to display some sort of commemorative symbol on out shirt? Perhaps a star? If only I could think of a suitable colour...

But the players are shit.....half the squad has changed since last season and many that have come in clearly aren't good enough. There's no excuses being made, fans recognise how poor the team is and that Clough is doing well to get anything out of them.

Size of the club and history have nothing to do with any of it. We're near the bottom because the players aren't very good and because the previous manager wasn't good enough to get even a goal out of them most days.

Being Sheffield United doesn't turn crap players into good ones.

Have I misread this or are you seriously suggesting our squad is better than last season?

I am saying it should be. 90% of the squad from last year is still here and we have been brought in players who were successful in this division last year in Baxter, Cuvellier, McGinn, Brandy and now White.

Please someone tell me why it should be worse

You are absolutely right these players should have strengthened the squad but up to now they haven't .
Weirs style of play didn't suit the players he inherited and the players he signed didn't adapt either.
It will take Clough a while but he's grinding out results along the way.
Clough will have a good look at them all and in good time he'll sort it.

The clean slate seems to have worked for Porter , were as mr King seems to have blown it .

Something like this would do the trick.

In fairness I actually think all of those players are talented lads and on paper yes, they should make us stronger. They haven't so far for various reasons. Two of them can't get a game (you have to ask yourself why), one can't stop getting sent off and another is on loan. Not a great mix.

Other members of our squad are getting older and more inconsistent. The players brought in to make us better haven't lived up to expectations so far and have hence been unable to cover our obvious weaknesses. Basically we have an unbalanced and arguably overrated squad of players.

Indeed Weir takes a lot of the blame for how bad we have actually become but good players generally always shine through to some extent and none of our players have.

A point against Walsall 32 years ago would have been greeted with utter joy.

Because there is not a single player in the squad who can score goals on even a semi regular basis.

Last year we had two (one leaving in January of course). This year, none.

We had a penalty taker who left in January. Let's not put a gloss on a team who struggled to score goals all last year. We brought in a player who was one of the top scorers in the division last season and I don't think he's been in the box since Rotherham away.

Baxter, MOM for first 2 games
McGinn, MOM against Notts County with Brandy running a close 2nd.

We need to get to the root cause of why these players have gone into their shell as every player who comes to us at present fails miserably.

At the moment we need at least one of the new lads Brandy,Baxter,Murphy even Cuvallier to start showing their true form and we'll be half way there
We can't keep starting with a holding and defensive minded midfield.
On Tuesday we had numerous chances to put the ball in the box from wide positions
Coady looked like little boy lost out wide.
Lappin was the biggest culprit he made a room with good control ready to deliver but what did he do check and go back just passing the buck, it really pissed me off because he's probably the best dead ball striker at the club.

all we have to do is play players in their 'proper' positions.. Murphy isn't a winger and neither is Coady.. all of the midfield are left backs who can't play left back.. even Hill isn't a fullback.. they are all being moved around to accomodate Doyle who must have some kind of clause in his contract that he plays every game

The team will be unrecognisable, in terms of both personnel and quality, by the end of August 2014.

Although it's natural for us Blades fans to be cynical, it's perfectly clear from the commitment shown already from HRH and his men that they mean business. There will be big changes such as we would not have thought possible, certainly by Division Three chances. I'm backing NC to make it pay.

For now, we need to cling on to the side of the ship for grim death. The lifeboats are coming into view.

Agree with Pinchy. Clough is showing that he can make a dreadful squad get decent results. So if he can do that with shit players, imagine what we will be like in August 2014 when Clough has had chance to weed out some of the shite and bring in some quality to the 1st team. Clough has demonstrated at Derby that he can scout talent from the lower leagues (Buxton, Keogh, Bryson) and nurture youth talent (Brayford, Hughes, Hendrick).
