Can't think you can have a favourite in the dreaded play-offs. Remember the last time we got there after finishing 3rd .
For me as well, even tho the Blades are in form so are Preston. putting 6 past cardiff and beating brum away.....hmmm.
Ever the pessimist eh!!!
Would love see the Blades win sommat at Wemberleee tho'

what springs to mind:

3 semi finals............two playoff finals...............
you know what happened..............

I seem to remember there was a curse that the third placed team never won the play-offs. Has it been broken now? I'm probably remembering something from years ago.

Last two seasons it's been 3rd placed team - Hull and Derby. Thing that worries me though is when did we last score from open play?

Yeh mate, agree, we could'nt break down 10 man forest, and we could'nt score against a poor palace side. Saying that spaghetti in the net for palace made some tremendous saves.
It is a worry were not scoring much. Blanks versus Palace, forest, burnley,Qpr,and the goals, 1pen versus swansea and Howards at Reading.

I wouldn't class 1 goal (a penalty at that) in 4 games as on form personally :(

I don't think we'll get past Preston to be honest, I don't like playing the teams that have just sneaked in on the last day. Preston v Burnley final for me.

We haven't scored from open play for a while. But something has to change at some point. Hopefully it will be on Friday night!

Quinn is dire, hardly heard him against palace.

been poor for weeks, went missing again saturday when there's 7500 of us shouting the lads on it should lift anyone's game and it didn't.

Midfield needs a massive rethink, what about starting with Lupoli up with Ward then we will have to play through midfield to feet.

WE NEED GOALS FROM OPEN PLAY, WE CAN DO IT!

Unless he's injured whats wrong with that ex-england international Hendrie?
In the five minutes of play he's been on towards the end of the season he's looked good.

Hendrie and Monty, or O'Toole and Monty.

I'm kinda hoping that Beattie gives Quinny a beating so neither can play.....

I'd definitely keep Monty in the middle. I'd replace Quinn with either Howard (who doesn't look bad when he's not playing with Quinn - and as long as his knees are better) or Hendrie, I think.

Its time for Hendrie to come in. But will blackwell have the balls to take the risk?

I would say 'no'. Actually, it's not about balls; it's about stubbornness. Blackwell is the manager and wants everyone to know that, I think - hence his often baffling team selections and substitutions.

Actually, I'd go for Halford up front with Henderson. We might benefit from the long ball then.

I'm not sure we really need to change the team - just the way we play at times. We still have no real Plan B once the ball to Henderson's head isn't working. On Sunday he had 2 men on him who knocked him all over the park - and it was clear after 20 mins that Foy wasn't going to give him anything, no matter what the defenders did to him (or Morgs et al). Cotterill's runs were useful, though then crossing yet more balls for Henderson wasn't too clever - can't we cut balls back from the byeline to midfielders on the edge of the box  - And make through balls for Wardy to run onto, that give him a run on goal and not to the corner flag :confused:

Well this is going to be a new and interesting experience for me and I must admit I'm looking forward to it.

I've found out that my local is showing the game (Friday at quarter to 8?) so I think I will pop down and watch it. Provided of course I'm not too hungover after the Edinburgh derby on Thursday evening :D

Sadly I haven't got anything to go on as far as a score prediction goes, not having seen any of your games this season, but from an outside perspective I would have said you are the more likely of candidates to win. lol, he says with a great deal of naivety!

Anyway, I wish you all the best of luck and I look forward to watching the game on Friday.

Hello folks, Preston fan here - I usually post over on pne-online.co.uk. Please don't bite my head off, I'm one of the good guys!

Looking forward to the clash this Friday. I really think it could go any way. I'm fully expecting Kevin Blackwell to adopt the same strategy he did when we played his Leeds team in the playoffs in 2006 (go for it but ultimately manage a draw at home and then go kick lumps out of the opposition on the away leg - break Brett Ormerod's leg and then smash up our dressing rooms!)

In all seriousness though, I know you guys are a good footballing side, so if both teams can keep the ball on the deck we're in for a cracker.

So, predictions? For me I'd say we'll pip our Deepdale encounter 1-0 (best home form in the division), you'll win your leg 1-0 and we'll be all square and set up for an extra time/penalties lottery that anyone can win. Nerves will be well and truly shot by the end of the night!

He he, we're not a good footballing side - well, we are in flashes, I guess - but we're not a team that kicks lumps out of the opposition either. I'm hoping for a couple of matches that are as exciting and enjoyable to watch as our victory over Derby County at Bramall Lane this season!

Well, good on the deck or "effective", it's clearly worked for you guys this season. I've seen some good stuff from you here and there - and some bad stuff (I'm thinking the loss to Burnley recently).

What's the mood like in the Sheff U camp after missing out on automatic? You guys raring to go in the playoffs or demoralised? From Preston's standpoint, I'd say we're treating the P/Os as a bit of a bonus, so perhaps there's less pressure - but it makes a change as we're usually not the side that sneaks in. Mind you, we haven't had a very good record in playoffs over the years (7 knock-outs so far, and 0 successes) so that weighs down on us a bit.

Anyway, I wish you guys luck in the sporting sense right up until kick off, and when the games get underway may the best team win. Always had a soft spot for Sheff U. Shame we can't both get to Wembley.
