I am sick of hearing our players only know how to play a certain way. I coach an u13's side who have just moved upto 11v11 and haven't struggled once with the changes pitch formations etc.. if your telling me that pros who get coached professionally have the best of what is needed and have played the game for 20yrs + can only play a certain way then why the fuck are the professionals and getting g payed hamsonly it's bollox man.
Nobody is saying that. I merely, originally said, "I", as in me, "hoped to see a return to", or something similar to that, of the "3-5-2 formation", now we have the players to do it.
I also said we will lose by 2 or 3 goals.
I'm all for a change in formation, but, WE DONT HAVE ANY WINGERS!, and forgive me, but a group of 12yr olds isnt United, they may play very similar football at the moment, but it's totally different. In time however, I hope we do sort it out, but as for expectations of a quick change from a striker to being a defender, or a defender into a winger, or even a keeper into a midfielder, is not as simple as that at all, now that is "Bollox man".

If you look at the 4 strikers that started at Swansea, 1 was out of position (Brewster) 1 a new/strange position (McGoldrick) after the subs came on we managed to change it to 1 out of position (Brewster) and 2 with new roles ( Mcgoldrick & Osborn) the changes didn’t improve things

That would be where the 3-5-2 comes in then, as it isnt a "back wall of 5" is it.....
And the system only faultered due to the loss of our best defender, one we never replaced.....until Davies arrived!
Now I'm not sure what you've been watching for the past 5 seasons, but, the players have been playing in that formation for a while, and although were all happy fo the new manager to change things, as weve seen, it doesnt work without time and the required players.
Now if we have the players that are used to playing a certain way are all we have available, then play something that resembles that, as we know, currently, were worse with a back 4.
Also, as we play out from the back, and the defence have been instructed NOT to overlap, we have lost almost all our threat from wide positions, as we have NO WINGERS!, which leaves us with 3-4-3, which is fine, we have the players for that, unfortunately though, our strikers currently couldn't hit the floor if they fell over, so which formation do you think will help us beat West Brom???
I really don’t care less about 5 years ago.Ben Davies is a great defender but doesn’t like to venture forward so he will be nothing like a JOC replacement but he is composed and passes the ball well,so definitely an upgrade.I wouldn’t disagree with as 343 mind you.

We are never going to get used to a back 4 if we don’t play it.As slav has said,we are going to have to learn on the job.

Agree on the need to be solid, but we also need to start finding the net.

Would happily take a low scoring draw, 1-1 or 2-2. That would give the front line some confidence, and I think the defence could take that small hit, especially as we haven't shipped goals for a long time really.

Agreed too - we do need to start finding the net, but it's something we haven't done for the past 18 months, so for me, be solid, win a few games 1 nil and build on it in the coming weeks. Teams grow into the season as it progresses. Confidence then follows to turn 1 nil into 2 nil - then 2 nil becomes 3-1 after conceding but not letting it get to you. Confidence is the initial key.

gosh, we've got our glass half empty lot back in droves.

We looked more on it when back to a 3 v Swansea. Hope he plays a 3 again which will snuff out West Brom (Bash/Egan/Davies).

I'm going that WBA will not score - all depends whether we can find our shooting boots.

Brewster and McB up top tonight.

Exactly my point, all out of position! Players play better in the positions they play in.
It's not rocket science, and not once against Swansea or Birmingham, were our players playing 3-5-2, the formation they're used to playing.
Slav needs to find a formation that our players are comfortable playing, and that they can play to their strengths in, which is what hes currently trying to do, hes also trying to figure out, can any of the players currently, that's now, play in other positions, the answer so far, has been no.

Agreed, but, currently we have the players for the 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formations, which, I'm arguing, we would be better playing, until new signings are made.

Bravo that man👏, my argument exactly!

Best we can hope for is a point, but realistically I’ll go with a 2-0 defeat.

I'm usually quite positive, but I really don't see where the goals are going to come from.

I do however see West Brom scoring. 1-0 or 2-1 Baggies I think. Really really hope we do something magical and get the 3 points though. We need it as much as the players do

Weird that after all the talk of WBA’s high line and the need for pace, we go with our two slowest strikers.

Ok mate I’m here for my humble pie .Maybe we can’t defend after all …. 😂

We can do fuck all! Massive amounts of work required!
Oh, and I've changed my mind, we dont have players for any formation, we just have a few blokes in matching shirts.

Saw their highlights on Saturday and set pieces and the long throw that they utilise is a concern.

Footballing wise we can match them no problem but we definitely need to up the intensity of our play
I take absolutely no pleasure in quoting my post from yesterday

Didn’t fancy us to win .But that performance was absolutely dreadful.

I have a mate whose a big Mackem , I remember in 2017 when we beat them at The Stadium Of Light & on Boxing Day how poor they were for a side that had just dropped out from the Premier League . I saw him in the boozer after both games and I said they looked like a side feeling sorry for themselves , they had no shape , no confidence , created nothing & lacked any sort of heart for the battle and he agreed and correctly called they they were in trouble as it proved to be without investment & clear out they suffered successive relegations.
Worryingly tonight I saw a similar side that also plays in red & white stripes and they looked the re-incarnation of them , totally devoid of any self belief , confidence or heart for the battle .
Without some serious investment or an overhaul of team we are in a flat spin and will be a the wrong end of the table .

If we play 3 at the back we'll drill these.

They absolutely robbed us last year after we totally outplayed them away.

What goes around comes around.

Come on Blades!
Until we can bring in some players I think we need to go back to 352 , we have no playing pattern to us at all
