They were good and we matched them, the game was tight but a fair result would have been a draw.

We were a joy to watch from start to finish.

Seemed ok to me most seemed to be of the view that if you miss the chances we did and defend like we did you won't get much out the game but can't fault the effort
Much better than the insipid display first half against Chelsea but not clinical enough or solid enough to win games at this level

Wilder was critical after Leicester and today was worse imho.

I'm realistic about what we can expect and I thought Southampton did their homework and fair play to them.

I still feel, however, we beat ourselves and I also include Wilder in that.

Nothing to cry about but a harsh lesson about the Premier League that hopefully we learn from.

Agree with all you say but still feel miserable as this was a game we had to take something out of looking at the next few games coming up (including Watford as, despite being bottom, have a bad feeling about that one as their name starts with WA.... WAlsall nightmares...) And rarely seen Tufty as down as in his post game interview as if he realizes the same thing

Yes, McGoldrick does some great play in holding up the ball, bringing others into play, winning free kicks, does some lovely touches etc... but the fact is, he's missed at least 4 sitters this season. It's not good enough.

We've also got a HUGE problem that needs to be addressed and that's faffing around with the ball in our own half. Cost us the game today, cost us the game vs Leicester and it's happened a number of other times too where we've recovered or they've missed their chance. 4 of the goals we've let in have come from stupid mistakes, that's not good enough at this level.

Not signing a new, premier league experienced CB was a mistake imo. Jags is past it. I think we needed someone in their prime with a genuine prem level quality to slip in.


On the plus side, McBurnie has shown if given the chance he can finish. Other than stupid mistakes, we do defend well. We've shown that we are more than capable of creating good chances. Even in defeats, we haven't been outplayed. We didn't deserve to beat Southampton, but a draw would have been a fair result.

Southampton look a better team than I thought. I dismissed them as relegation contenders after getting smashed by Burnley and barely avoiding the drop the last 2 seasons, but I think they're gonna finish around midtable this year.

We really needed something here, got a run of some very tough games. Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal. They're gonna be tricky to get points against, ideally we need to snag 3 points away vs Watford to make up for the points we're more than likely gonna drop vs those three.

this is where we are at now in my opinion... we are creating a shit ton of chances... it is a great thing to see and so entertaining... we will finish those chances as we get bedded in further in this league.

As we have demonstrated time and time again throughout our rise through the leagues, we get better and learn throughout the season, we will grow and we will survive (at minimum!).

Chelsea was a lesson in defence, this was a lesson in attack. It was painful for us to rue those chances but it is a learning experience.There will be some serious training and sports psychology sessions going on this week. We will bury a goal against Everton, hopefully a couple.

I think everyone has been in agreement that we played well and should’ve won an important game. McGoldrick in particular missed some golden opportunities and might simply not be good enough at this level in front of goal.

I originally said it was a must win but I retracted that to a must not lose - which we did. And Chris said exactly that in his post match interview. Which is very disappointing.

What a frustrating result that was. There was only one side in red and white stripes trying to play football. We more than held our own and yes, we need to be much more clinical but create chances like that, play like that and we will give many sides a game.


The frustration stems from the fact that they scored against the run of play and then grew into the game around the sending off, without ever really creating owt. Then the time old classic of leaving the ground whilst overlapping with their fans leaving the away end (what a stupid system that is, btw) and there fans giving it the big one as if they had completely outclassed us. There's was the definition of a goal against the run of play.


Coupled with a less than honourable performance (in Wilder's view) and the worst example of the more cynical side of the premier league that we've seen yet. "You can challenge like that in the championship but not here". Why? A foul should be a foul regardless of the level. This division is soft as shit.

The McBurnie goal ruled out.
The couple of chances blocked in the area.
The Fleck header.
The McGoldrick chance first half.
The clear penalty shout.
The McGoldrick shot over the bar.

They are an average side. They know they got lucky there.
