Watch out Burnley are coming

you can underperform & still get promoted. He shouldve won the league in both season with the money & players he had. scraping promotion through play offs & just about falling over the line with Bournemouth is underachieving
If Man Untied or Spurs get relegated and have to go up through the play offs, maybe I'd entertain an argument that they underachieved, not with Fulham and Bournemouth.

They had good squads, perhaps promotion was par in those seasons, but clearly the target will have been promotion and he got it. Compared that to Edwards this season and the long list of managers who have failed to win the league comfortably with parachute clubs.

Sunderland won by a jammy own goal on Monday too. Our rivals getting lucky while we do it the hard way :-)

I watched Burnley last night. First time i've seen them other than against us.

They absolutely battered Oxford. Their passing and movement was fast and slick. Then as soon as they get in the 18y box, it's like they forgot how to play football. Every shot was wayward, or blocked. Even the ones the GK saved weren't exactly difficult/great saves.
If they address that final third, they'll start killing teams with ease.

Their defence was great. Oxford never really had a sniff. The centre backs - Esteve and Egan-Riley were like prime Souttar/Anel all night.

Oxford were a little disappointing though. They seemed to make 3 or 4 passes then try and go long over the top and the 2 CBs just mopped everything up

They are unbeaten in 18 games and haven't conceded a goal in 9, very impressive stats.

It would be no disgrace to finish 3rd or 4th. The other three teams are so strong and in very different ways & contrasting styles. I guess that's our big problem, we were doing a Burnley (at home anyway) but not since Boxing Day.

We need to find a real identity and fast, because, I just fear the meltdown on here if we fail.

Win at the weekend and we have gained 5 more points than Burnley and played most of December / January with a threadbare u21s squad which they had the fortune of gaining 3 points against us.
Surely how many points we and Burnley have is the only relevant statistic. If we win on Saturday (after all the other 3 have played this week) we will be ahead of Burnley and, perhaps, Leeds.

Tough game for Leeds tonight you'd think.

Frank Lampard's Coventry City away who have 4 straight wins and Leeds unbeaten in 12.

I'd be happy with a draw

I thought Burnley were a tough watch last night tbf.

People complain that we’re not putting games to bed and not creating all that many clear cut chances but they were painful in and around the box.

We’ve been absolutely ravaged by injuries but I was sat there last night feeling extreamly grateful for Hamer. His all action style and approach has really dragged us through at times.

This weekend barring Blaster and Souttar we go into the game with pretty much a full strength side to pick from for the first time in AGES. This is the run now where we’ll really see how good we are.

We now have a Championship title winning squad with the quality signings weve just added. Competition for places will go through the roof and fatigue late in games will no longer be an issue.

Wilder has miraculously got us where we are in the league with a threadbare squad and kids playing before they're up to speed.

Strap in cos its gonna be a roller coaster of a run in but we're going back to the PL.

True, they won by a jammy own goal, Giles probably didn't need to make contact with the ball as it probably wouldn't have gone anywhere.

But 2 late penalties against Burnley and missing both, Trafford is a good keeper but to not score just 1 of those penalties is poor, especially against a close rival 🤔

That's the worrying part. If they address that, they'll walk it.

Not conceded in 9 games, but have only scored in 4 of those games to win.

They seem to be overloaded with wingers and not strikers:
  • Anthony
  • Foster
  • Koleosho
  • Benson
  • Sarmiento
Then have just acquired 2 more in Banel and Edwards

I'm just hoping they don't find a way for it to click into place.

Should have been 5 up after 13 mins, sitter after sitter.

Sunderland's goal was yet another proof that pace and a dangerous cross produces goals.
Brilliant work by LeFee , firing it in across the 6 yard box at pace , if your colleague doesn't score , there's a good chance of a defender facing his own goal will.
Nothing jammy about it.
Similar to Cannon's cross at Derby.

They’ve got an embarrassment of riches on the wings

I’d be worried if they replaced Parker. He seems to be the one stifling their attacks with his don’t concede at all costs approach

Then add it it’s Sheffield United and we don’t do things the easy way.

Don't know if mentioned already but their best player Josh Brownhill is out injured with no mention of a return date by Parker last night. If he's out for a while that will really hurt them.

Let’s face it they basically play with 6 defenders so no wonder they are tight. Cullen is defensive and Laurent isn’t creative particularly.

This is how we will play almost with Souza and Choudhury.

Hopefully this now forms a platform for Hamer to dominate games.

The reason that Burnley concede so few goals is not because they've got incredible defenders.

When possession is turned over every single player is like lightning at sprinting back and closing down and pressing to win the ball back.

They are super fit and have a very athletic set of players.

Scoring goals is a problem for them but that is the conundrum for everybody.

We commit players forward when we play with attacking intent but have tended to be open to the counter and teams have punished us.

We now have Hamza, Vini, Davies, Peck, Hamer, O'Hare etc (and the interchangeability) who have the energy to be box to box along with the wide defenders as well

Let's be honest, Burnley are comfortably better than us. That doesn't mean they'll finish above us though

If we had the +2 points I'd be confident. But as it is it's difficult to call. It makes such a difference

Struggling to think of a more stupid statement I’ve heard than that, you are saying if we finish a 46 game season above them despite the -2 you would still argue they are better than us, yeah ok 😂
Yes I would. They are clearly higher quality, more controlled and more dominant in most aspects of the game

We are fortunate they have a truly defence obsessed manager who has so far refused to allow them to find the right balance to get the goals they need
