I have a slightly dicky ankle and aids of the foot. Let us hope that this doesn`t stop me getting to the lane despite the cold weather and student influx.

I just hope somebody’s told Bolton’s coach driver..

The open days don’t cause as much disruption as Returners weekend, it’s only one year and one university.

This.

We’re talking about relatively few visitors from outside the city. The sense of entitlement from some contributors to this thread is bordering on the narcissistic.

Thanks for the heads up. Should be nowhere near as bad as the weekend the students move in though, they haven't bothered putting it on the matrix signs anyway so they can't be expecting too much disruption.

The university will plan these weekends far in advance of the fixture calendar being released, let alone once sky have got their hands on it. Really in this instance it should be for SUFC to make alternative arrangements.
Or the Uni can inform the club and the club inform the league?
But as it's February what have the students been doing since last September?

It’s the same in every city. I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s just too many cars. What amazes me, and I don’t know if Sheffield does it, but some are increasing the density of the city centres, building bigger offices etc so that even more people have to travel in to work. It makes no sense whatsoever when the centre can’t cope already.

Yet having worked in dirty Leeds for some years, they've generally managed to get cars in and around the actual city centre, so it is possible. ;)

I work in Leeds and it seems to be in an almost constant state of gridlock at peak times. There’s no tram system there and never having worked in Sheffield am not qualified to comment on whether that helps or not
I find Leeds much better than Sheffield to drive round. Wierd innit :-)

I suppose it’s a matter of your personal experiences isn’t it. I travel by train now but did drive into Leeds for a number of years. I spent hours over the years in seemingly endless queues in and around Leeds. As I have never worked in Sheffield I haven’t had the same experiences so don’t view it the same way.

A footbridge across the road at the University pinchpoint which had access halfway to the supertram stop would enable the traffic control crossings to be done away with; as long as wheelchair access could be incorporated.
Been saying this for years.

Have a look for the figures of what students spend in Sheffield. Think how many shops are there to cater for students, take them away. What would be left?

Not forgetting the many Sheffield drug dealers who are kept in business by students too.

Absolutely. Not saying everybody else should just make way for the football because its us and we must come first. But theres got to be better ways than what happens every year? Its bad for everyone; if the aim of this open day is to attract potential students and their families, gridlocking them in and out of the city along with angry, road raged football fans and locals trying to get on with their lives isnt much of an attraction. Surely its in the interests of police/emergency services as well? You’d like to think by getting reps from all affected parties (Blades/Uni’s/Police/Council) in a room for a meeting might at least help the situation.

Don’t disagree that it’s badly managed by all parties. Most cities seem to cope with a couple of big events in the same place on the same day. I hope SUFC will have learned from last time though and proactively warn fans.

Think it’s just probably one of those quirks that needs adding to the fixture calendar....I think Forest, for example have it in their to not be at home the day of the Nottingham Goose Fair. Even a later kick off would probably do the job.
