I couldn't give a flying one about that, but I could give a flying fuck about Wally fucking Downes getting the job.

If he does, the sad thing is that there'd be less discontent about this appointment than there was for Danny Wilson getting the job.

Nailed on with Basset on the interview panel me thinks..................................... FFS

Good grief. The bloke is a total twat.

I'd rather give it Morgan. At least he loves the club and already has some idea of the situation.

Whats wrong with wally downes ? Highly respected coach and an ex blade plus he tried to chin warnock so bladesway will be happy

I'm afraid if Bassett is indeed on the interview panel, that says it all. Winter speaks of a new model; McCabe emphasises the need for a change in style. Yet we seek advice from.....Dinosaur Dave??

Incompetence has found a new level.

Reading and West Ham fans that I know of speak highly of Wally Downes. He was one of the youngest person to have passed a lot of FA coaching badges. i am afraid that it looks that managing the Blades is looking less attractive for proven managers who are out of work. we will have to give time for any new boss to try to make the most out of our limited budget

How low can we go? I have never (even when we went down to the old forth division) be as low as I am now, we are a joke! We are all blades don't wash at this moment, McCall turned the job down, because like the torys, we are just cutting and no proper plan in place. The le ds fans are having a field day at my expense, thank you mcCabes! A disillusioned blade!

Had he succeeded you would have been right. As it stands I don't know anyone who has given a solid reason to say yes or no to his appointment.

bravo blades.

after gary smegson, bryan robson and abu hamza im struggling to think of anybody id hate to be our manager more than wally downes. all hail our esteemed leader.

Typical Blades fans. Getting all hot under the collar over names that have been mentioned when we have no idea if there is a grain of truth in them.

Regarding Downes, we don't know if he was even on the shortlist of 7.

I prefer to wait and see who really gets the job - then make a judgment.

Well, if, as we are told, Dinosaur Dave is involved then....go figure!
I think the teams downs have been involved with have played good football even west ham ( for an allardyce side )

Nobody seems to want Wally Downes for no other reason that he once had a bust up with that big nosed egotistical wanker Colin

Not sure that's true Brownie (although I'm not saying it isn't a factor with some).

I think people remember him as a player (I know I do) and he was, frankly, dreadful. Whilst that obviously doesn't mean he won't be a good manager, people would dread him creating a team "in his own image".
For my part, whilst I wouldn't be at all keen, I have seen enough managers who weren't very good players (Sir Alex for one) but turned out to be better managers to not be totally against the idea.

PS: A couple of double negatives in there. Quite impressive.

He once mentored an introverted chess geek who was trying to gull John Barnes into thinking he was a football manager on an episode of Channel 4's 'Faking It' a while back. His grasp of the game came across as tenuous, even rudimentary, and certainly neanderthal. He couldn't possibly be a serious candidate.
