I don’t get the talk of us not having the funds for wages .
£25k / week is £1.2 million / year .
Don’t bring in Brewster, after all he has not been played although I do think he will go on to be a good player.
This provides £20m over the length of his contract.
Which could be used to provide a wage increase of 25k / week for five players over a four year contract or better quality players on loan etc.
I realise you need funds for the transfer as well but the point being we could have cut and sliced the cake differently; players of different abilities are paid different amounts it is the nature of the business and subsequently squad harmony would just have to be managed.
Do a search on this forum and you’ll see that signing Brewster was a crossroads moment and a sign of our true ambition.
Many Bladed were complaining about the delay....insisting we should pay 30 million...as we’ll easily double our money in a few years.
I was the one saying “don’t expect much in the 1st year or two”
But many Blades replied “we need to show ambition or we’ll never compete if we don’t buy the brightest young talent in the game”.
The irony is we’ve been much more ambitious than anyone expected...spending 110 million over 2 years.....we all sung the praise of the Prince last year.
Best owner we’ve ever had.....then covid strikes meaning the Summer preparations were cut short and we lose O’Connell for the season.
