Just looking at the draw and absorbing the prospect of a trip to Villa Park in the new year.

I noticed that Birmingham and West Brom. also have home draws. Do they allow all the Birmingham teams to be at home at the same time?

Just a thought.

I think Brum and Villa play alternate like we do so yes one of the fixtures will have to change. Don't think they bother with West Brom though. So yeah potentially a changed kick off depending on who has to change.

Cheers for the heads-up. I was pondering the chances of a TV rescheduling before committing to transport and wotnot.

Spot on.

Interestingly (or not), the closest ground to Villa's, is actually the Hawthornes, but they do alternate with Birmingham rather than WBA.

Definitely wait for the KO time to be confirmed. One of them will move, just hopefully not to the Friday night...

FA cup ruls mean we'll be allowed 6000 tickets, anyone think we will sell that many?

Not unless the club are imaginative with coach/ticket prices.

Like last-minute, decisive goals, I simply cannot remember a true 'giant killing' act from the Blades. Norwich away in the late 80s was close, but no cigar.

I stand to be corrected (BUT, there must be at least 2 divisions between the teams for it to count as 'giant killing'!)

Dunno... people seemed fairly giddy on Twitter but I'm assuming they didn't get to Villa Park in 2007 when we lost 3-0.

In fact, a quick squizz at Soccerbase suggests we haven't won there since 1966.

Bodes well dunnit?

Yeah i think that we will. If it is a saturday afternoon game and we play well over christmas. It has been a while since we have been away to a top side

We knocked Newcastle out of the league cup in 1988-9 when we were in the 3rd division and they were in the 1st.

I think that's the only time we've knocked out a team 2 divisions or more higher than us. We beat Arsenal in the league cup in our 4th division season as well, but of course they won the 2nd leg.

When we won at Bolton in 2007-8 it was the first time we'd beaten a team in a higher division in a cup away game in about 50 years.

As I said in the Shoutbox yesterday, Villa Park is the only place where we have gone more than 10 games without victory in all competitions (though I think Highbury/Emirates has equalled it since I last checked this). The olny place where we had a worse record is Bristol Rovers' various grounds, and we buried that hoodoo last year.

We last won at Arsenal in August 71 and have now gone 15 or 16 games in all competitions there without a win (depending on if you count the void cup game in 1999). We have had 11 visits to Villa Park in all competitions since we last won there in 1966.

Here's a run down of how long it is since we won at various clubs in all compeititions. It includes all clubs we have played who have been in the league since the early 70's. League, FA Cup and League Cup only.

What are the details of the '66 win at Villa Park? I can't remember ever seeing us win there, but wondered if I was at this game. I was there in the 70's when they were 2nd division and we were 1st, we lost of course.

Saturday 29th January and we won 2-0 according to Soccerbase. No Bible on me to tell you any more details but I'm sure Dazzer will be along soon...

So the longest time we have to go back for an away victory is Swansea in 1958 - anyone see that :-)

Perhaps the most amazing fact is that in our last 9 visits to Scunthorpe we have failed to win. Though some might count the 3-2 (AET) Associate Members Cup win there on 20/3/84 as breaking that run.

We are expected to get stuffed at Villa so we have nothing to lose, you never know,it's a funny old game! :)

I think I'm right in saying that I have a 100% attendance record at Villa Park for games against thm in the FA Cup.

Just the one, actually, 1975, when we were doing well in the 1st Division and they were in the 2nd and we got stuffed 4-1.

I'm definitely right in saying that by the 2nd week of January, I'll be down to a 50% attendance record :-)

We played Everton at Goodison Park two years ago in the League Cup. We lost 3-1.

We wont win this tie but hopefully we can put up a fight though.

Did not realise it is our only FA cup visit, I will maintaining my 100% attendance record.

Anybody got the match details? I think Villa got promoted that season and have been in the top division ever since.

Yes I remember that Trig I was there and I think that defeat ended a long unbeaten run.

I for one am quite happy with the draw, better than getting drawn away at some league 1 or 2 club and going out to a side we should have beat. There are no expectations on us to get a result there so lets see what we can do and have a go!!!

And if we do go out, as expected, then we have no shame and a bit of money for it.

Bring it on I say :-)

We have had 11 visits to Villa Park in all competitions since we last won there in 1966.

I've decided I'm bending the rules and including the FA Youth Cup, just to cheer myself up.

So the last time I saw us play at Villa Park (2011) we won, 1-0, with Joe Ironside bagging the only goal of the game. :)

We were absolutely battered. We were pretty dreadful in the Cup around this time and an actual progression to the 4th Round meant we took thousands and the massive open away end was the fullest I ever saw it as they were in a lower division and we thought we'd be heading for R5.
It was bedlam, with the last 10 minutes (I'm pretty sure we were 4 down) being played out with mass brawls taking place on our end as the Villa fans had made it round from the Holte end. Remember people actually rolling around the steps/banking as we pulled 1 back. It was so bad I didn't actually see our goal!

Suspect it will nothing like that this time off the park but the score might be similar.

I was an innocent yoot and went to the game with red & white hat & jumper. Before the game, a bunch of (huge) Villa fans came round the corner and one launched a massive gob (spit) straight in my face. Nice.

observant people will also remember of the swindon away fixture-we played 2 games in 2 days, but canny remember the boxingday fixture the day before?

Cloughy made it no secret that he tried very hard to, thought he came close to, but failed to sign a striker before the recent loan deadline closed and he says that it will be re-addressed in January now.

Therefore.......Do you think the recruitment process will have started nice and early or do you think he has his target lined up and will dart in for him as soon as the window opens?? If so we might well have a debutee up front for the Villa game, potentially anyway.
