Going to usurp us for every signing we show interest in ,already started with swift which should have been sewn up a week ago
Every player we approach their agent will put the feelers out for more money and these two will swoop in

How do we get round this ?

Not sure how Utd were meant to have finalised the Swift deal last week when it's only possible to do so from today.

Go for a dozen over priced players that we don't really want. Let Leeds & Villa shoot their load over six each, then move on to our real targets.

Oh so its been done then ?

I've no idea - what I meant was that the window only formally opens today so it was not possible to finalise any deals until now.
Of course deals can and probably have been agreed in principle but until they're finalised there's still the possibility that it will go wrong

Did Villa actually take any of our targets last season despite the "gone to Villa" joke?

The only player I can think of that we lost out on was More Pay to Brighton.
Jota was wilders main target until he asked for fifty grand which villa happily gave him
I know ,I know ..that worked out well for them

Fucking hell forgot about him. Right blast from the past. Wonder if we will go in for him again now.

I think we are in a much better position now then we were last season to attract players. Last season everyone just saw us a Championship club who were likely going straight back down like Cardiff the season before. Now we are the nations sweethearts and everybody knows how good we can be.

Nope

We were after Jota I know that for a fact but we couldn’t agree personal terms. Villa signed him a week later.

Maybe I'm just being overly negative but I was out walking the dog this morning and thinking about the job Wilder's got to establish us in the prem and it bore so many comparisons to Bassett's time and the relative challenges he had ,picking up cast offs and players no one else wanted and the clubs inability to financially go up a level

I know that the sums are vastly different but our record signing of twenty million buys you a jude Bellingham or a dan james nowadays for the big clubs and our wages are mid table championship
Even to get up to the level Burnley are at we need another few seasons at this level and they are basically the next lowest budget wise

You get promoted to the prem and you think that's it you've made it you are in with the big boys and can start buying all these exciting players from all over Europe but it doesn't work like that does it ? Not for us anyway

I think with the vast majority of the PL looking to Europe there is a larger unatpped market in the lower leagues where our expertise is strongest.
Clearly we need to also look across the water, but we're competing with a large number of teams who's European scouting is much more mature than ours and I think there is still a blind spot towards the lower leagues, although there is also the risk of identifying players who can't step up.

One huge positive we have in our favour, is that anyone we talk to knows exactly where we're coming from and what they're going to get. We're an open book with regards to how we play, what we pay, the squad and management mentality, and the affinity between fans and club at the minute.

Oh aye it's gonna be really hard while ever we have the lowest budget in the league. The good news is we have a proven solid base to build from whereas other clubs have to start pretty much from scratch.

how do we get round this imaginary scenario i’ve made up My own head?

Try a bit of patience and see how things turned out. The window has been open for about 15 minutes and there’s no indication anyone else is even in for swift

Same way we do every season, Knillsy: try to take over the world.

Its an imaginary scenario our wage bill is half of the next lowest in the division ?

As much as I dislike, and as lowly as I rate Dead Smith, I doubt that he and his management team are sat around waiting to see who Wilder is trying to sign, before thinking "right we'll have some of that".

And Bielsa will certainly not be doing that.

Both will have their own targets and will be working towards them. If they aren't then they are not doing half of the job they are employed to do. Occasionally, their targets may be the same as ours, and occasionally one of our targets may then attract their interest.

Bear in mind as well that managers across the league have to co-operate on a lot of things from time to time, but certainly on player transfers, and specifically loans. If one continually undermines another in the market, he is hardly going to be in a position to expect any kind of favour in the future.

If anything, player's agents will be the ones trying to drum up interest in other clubs, to get more money.

it’s an imaginary scenario Leeds and villa are just waiting to pick us off for players.

They might be after a couple of the same players - who knows - but we are going to pay realistic wages and what wilder has achieved will be A factor in who we sign. If they are solely driven by money, good luck to them.

Whether we like it or not, Villa can and will pay more than us. Their escape of relegation this season may well have saved them some severe misery With FFP in the Championship.
Leeds too are in the same position as us last season in needing a fair few players but being able to use a dramatically increased budget for three years to fund the first year spending.
Plus, Leeds will always get more attention and plaudits having had a more recent success at this level than us and being seen as a huge club.

So unfortunately, we are definitely looking at very different players this year, and unless we sell a big name from our team we won’t be spending more than £10m on a single player Fee this summer, and I would go as far as to say we might not bring in any players to challenge the current 11 in defence or midfield.
The biggest issue we have is Keeper. That needs sorting ASAP. We can’t manage with Fodderingham/Moore

Chris Wilder is our trump card...Behind Pep and Klopp he’s regarded very highly within the game.....He will look every player in the eye and explain how much Sheffield United means to him....... While other 2 jokers Bielsa and Smith can’t speak English.
