I was in England this weekend to sort some family business out. I decided to take the game in on my way to the tunnel.
I really thought after the results in the cups, bar Preston, that we were building a legacy. I still the think the signs are mainly positive. We do have some talented players. However, yesterday the team looked disjointed and lacked cohesion. It looked to me as if the players seemed scared to take risks. It actually reminded me of teams that played zonally in the 80's. Yesterday's performance aside, I still think we will sneak in to the championship this season. I must say, respect to the supporters who travelled all that way, spent all that money to watch that.
The positives: I really like Adams, huge potential. Coutts looks good.

For those that want Clough out, I would ask this.
1: who would we get in his place?
2: players like Brayford, for one, are here because of Clough.

One would hope that Clough would have learned from his Derby experience. He built a team that when allowed to express themselves, by a new manager, really took off. I really think that Brayford, who has the respect of the players, fans and Clough, should take Clough to one side and have a word. They should be allowed to express themselves as they have done in the cups.
The whole experience yesterday was, how can I put this, shit. I left before the 2 goals, as I couldn't see us scoring and I had a crossing booked. I think I have frostbite, somebody scratched 'Kraut' into my car bonnet and to round the day off I hit snow after Dortmund and had to drive the last 100 k's at 30 mph.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, F. That's a bad Saturday, even by United's standards! To address your points:

1. For a long time, I've thought that football has got it all wrong re. managers. A manager is hired - usually with all his 'back room staff' - is usually found wanting and the whole process starts again. Hasn't it occurred to people that the majority of these 'managers' aren't really any good? (Thirty eight have gone from the top four divisions so far and there's three months still to go.) If a manager takes a team up to a higher level, he is often found to be out of his depth (particularly in the PL). Solution? I ain't got one. But surely we can't keep on repeating the same mistakes?

2. Again, I don't know but JB is a strange one. We've blown our transfer budget - possibly for the near future - on a full back when we all know a striker is and has been the main priority. For a good couple of seasons. JB is a good Championship full back, no more. Will he 'shine' at Third Division level? We'll have to see but, whatever the rights or wrongs, this could be our 'James Beattie' transfer. If it doesn't work, we're screwed.

Oh, and Gav. Klopp absolutely illustrates what happens when an excellent coach has the rug pulled out from under him by selling all his better players.

Difficult to spread the word after that .Keep safe on your journeys.

Actually scratched your bonnet??

Is The Medway in some sort of time warp and stuck in the 70s? Somebody actually scratched 'kraut' into the bonnet of a car?

When I looked at it last night on the train it didn't look too bad and I thought it would polish out. Just been out now and tried to do said polish. Yes I do mean scratched, probably with the edge of a coin. I am bloody annoyed, given the price of car spraying out here. I am amazed and saddened that one of my countryman could be so stupid and vindictive. I doubt it was a Blade as it was in a car park near the centre of Gillingham. There is, perhaps, a reason why Kent sounds like a particular swear word.

Hope you get it sorted for a reasonable price mate.

I have done some work in Gillingham myself, and it's safe to say not all of Kent is the garden of England, I couldn't think of a worse trip so sorry about your troubles.

I had a great holiday in Kent, but I did not go anywhere near Gillingham. What a rubbish trip you had, you have my sympathy.

Are you a kraut or a kent ?
Im confused ,might have to read this thread again

I'll fix this for you free of charge. All I ask is you pay my travel, accommodation and living costs for the 6 weeks the job will take me ;-)

Judge. I have often been mistaken for someone from Kent. I think that's what people were saying. I am born and bred in England but have spent 10 years, in two separate shifts, in Germany. My wife of 25 years is German. I love it out here, I just miss seeing the Blades as often as I would like. Mind you after Gillingham, it may be a blessing. My blood pressure couldn't take too many of those.
Stringjunior: I took my car this morning to an Autolackierer, car painter in German, can't think of the English. He said he would do it for €150. I felt so ashamed explaining why an Englishman/woman would do such a thing. He seemed genuinely upset that the English hated the Germans. I assured him, the Kent who did it was in a minority. We then discussed the Ched Evans case, as it has been in the news here. He had heard of our successes against premier league clubs.

I hope your car is not silver or it will be very difficult to get a good match on the paintwork, what a shit thing to happen to someone.

Ironic given that the Gills fans' favourite is Jake Hessenthaler. whose family has German roots. When his dad Andy took over as manager, the Sun even had the headline "Hess Fritz the Bill"

We've just booked a week in Munch this summer for the HB Family Holiday. Beer houses, football stadium and museum, curry wurst, culture (for Mrs HB obviously). What's not to look forward to. Going at end of August so hoping there might be a match on to go and see. Having to investigate what the lower level of football is in Germany as we always like to see a local/non-league match when on holiday in UK. Any suggestions Fuerstenberger? (I know you not in Munich, but any advice about lower league football appreciated)

I know I am well off the correct thread here, though I'll be wearing my Blades shirt...

Every where we go

Fuerstenberger, like most of the Blades posting to this thread I feel for you. And your motor.

One of my best, and at the time strangest football memories, comes from Berlin in 1998 during the World Cup. I was there for work, and watched Eng v Argentina on a big screen in a beer garden outside a suburban drinking hall. It was a gorgeous, hot summer's evening, and the place was absolutely rammed with several hundred "krauts" watching the game. When Michael Owen scored that amazing goal, the whole damn lot of them went bonkers with joy. I can remember saying to my German mate how perplexing this was to me. Imagine an English beer garden going nuts for a German goal in a World Cup game ? Yeah, right !

That said, you only have to spend a few hours in a major German city (well, a major West German city anyhow) to realise who actually "won the war".

Good luck to you. And bollox the haters.

Not sure, but I think the season starts end of July for the lower leagues. 2nd and 3rd divisions. There is 1860 München, 2nd div and SpVgg Unterhaching in the 3rd. 1860 are a good call. They are the socialist club and their fans are like Blades fans, noisy but friendly. Give me a shout before you come, I will try and find something out for you. Even meet up if I can get the time off, though I live 500 k's North. The Germans love English football on the whole. They love the passion. I am trying to arrange a trip to a night game at the Lane, to show a group of friends the real passion.

Metal blade, my car is Ford white, easy to match. The sprayer is in the next village and a friend of my wife's family. He is doing it as a favour.

I can see it is a favour €150 is next to nothing most of that will be paint and materials as to do it right it will have to be sanded to bare metal, undercoat, base coat then clear lacquer all adds up.

Unteraching is about 7 km south of munchen and easy on a train journey. It's got an ace beer garden next to the ground with proper lowenbrau and is an interesting wooden type modern stand. There a bookies en route that was invaluable as the sausages had got to me and I needed somewhere swift to leave a little piece of England....

Bayern is good too with an Audi showroom on the second floor. I kid you not I was looking at an R8 at half time after a few too many.

Equally, there are other places within an easy hour train ride, such as Augsburg and Nuremberg , and if you can get to freiburg before they move grounds, do it. Still standing on terraces and the Black Forest provides the back drop, plus you can go to titisee for a prematch pint along the hells railway.

Let me know if you want some tips, as we get over twice a season now and have learnt some lessons. The Germans love us and you are guaranteed a right time but don't mistake female friendliness for a come on, never salute even in drunken jest and grow a mullet and bleach your jeans 80s style if you fancy some kop fun!

Actually I'm impressed.. Anyone I've met from Gillingham would spell it 'krowt'.

Take a picture and send it to Gillingham school for reform and tell them how well they've done in educating some of the thickest retards who've ever been fortunate to be born in our marvellous country.

Last I heard even Poundland were pulling out as weren't making any money.

Makes Scunthorpe look classy, Chesterfield seem less inbred and the hoss seen in Donnie would have been eaten. An awful place with awful people.. A stain on a beautiful county that needs flushing away.
