I feel like some of our fans are coming across a bit Billy-big-time this morning. Yes, on paper we SHOULD have smashed them out of sight, but we didn't. We can blame the pitch and the ref all we want, but on the night they out-fought us and clearly just wanted it more. If either team "deserved" a win it was Wrexham.
I hope the pitch, and a kick up the arse for our players, will make the difference in the replay, but we mustn't forget that they went and scored 4 while winning at Coventry, a team that have beaten us this season.
Thought we were generally terrible last night. Passing was wayward, defence looked ropey. By contrast, although I saw some saying that MotM was "decided before the game," Mullin was outstanding for them. Seemed to be given a free-roaming role and every time he ran at us 2nd half I was on edge. He's really made a name for himself there, and maybe if he was 4 or 5 years younger he'd be heading for a career at a higher level. I certainly think he'd score goals in a mid-table L1 side.
I think, assuming the club doesn't utterly shit the bed and sell him tomorrow, Ndiaye should start the replay. I know there's arguments about fitness and injuries, but he's a young lad in his prime, and he should be able to handle 1 extra game. I know he fucked up for their goal, but there were also a couple of times where he ran at them, and their defence was terrified of his pace and trickery.
Overall it was a woeful night at the office for us, but we're still in the hat, and if the club really is on its arse financially, then we should be hoping for a draw that would bring in a few quid, and if we get it, we should be playing our strongest side and looking to show Wrexham what a club at the top end of the Championship can really play like.
Outside the replay, good luck to 'em. I've watched their Disney+ doc, and I find it quite nice to see a millionaire foreign owner (or owners) that really seem to get into the spirit of it all, and connect with the club and community like they seem to have. That said, Reynolds and McElhenny's combined net worth is about $200m. That's not close to what's needed to thrive in the championship, or even to get there, unless the 2 are willing to bankrupt themselves for a small Welsh football team.
