I don’t want to come across as argumentative but I’ve always seen consistency as being part of quality. That’s often the difference between a top class player and an average PL player. A top class player tends to be good nine games out of ten and rarely makes big mistakes, an average PL player might have 6 or 7 good games out of ten and make more mistakes. Other than that, they tend to have a similar level of technical ability and physical attributes.

Or to put it another way, most PL strikers will score goals like Ronaldo once in a while or do a dribble like Messi but only the best ones do it regularly. And most defenders will have a game where they look like Van Dijk but they’ll make more errors and won’t play at that level every week.

It's a good point, I've always considered the mental side to football (decision making and concentration) to be separate from the technical side (or what some might refer to as quality) - the truth is that they're probabaly more linked, like you say.

Well I'd say the games we lost we obviously failed to "execute our game plan perfectly" - unless of course the game plan was to lose.
Individual errors and/or goal of the month winners aren’t a failing of a game plan.

The game plans have been spot on. Fine margins at either end of the pitch have decided some results. We haven’t taken a hammering like some clubs have, that would have been a failed game plan.

Not really saying the game plans havent been good. I was more taking issue with your choice of words; you felt they were "executed perfectly".

I have a suspicion that if you asked either Wilder or any of the players if they have executed every game plan, perfectly, in every game, they would say no.

Cheers Roy, great read and some great comments, shows how much more the fans know than the pundits. Apart from the Villa fans, bitter Brummie twats 😂

Nice one Roy 👍

Anyone else notice this?

Villa fan
“Have to say whenever I catch a TV game of theirs I enjoy watching Sheffield United. Like us they will stay up as they’re decent at both ends. Respect Wilder plenty and he really makes that 3-5-2 work. Of course they can knock it long when required but they are also very capable of playing quick 1-2s out wide quickly which means with their overloads their wide players get plenty of space to get crosses in. They build up plenty of corners from that tactic and eventually they score from one. We’ve also struggled defending against them in last two seasons. At the other end they also have more grit than Norwich who are simply too easy to score against.”

Man U fan
Have to say I really enjoy watching Sheffield United play.
It’s not passing around for passing around sake (unlike their opposition tonight who wanted to get their possession stats up in last 20 minutes). They can knock it long when they want to but they are also capable of playing good quick touch football when that is required and they don’t get enough credit for that. It won them several corners tonight and eventually they scored from one.
Reason 3-5-2 is effective is they actually make it work overloading in corners of the pitch and play quick 1-2s that give their wide players space.
A very nice team to watch and think I’ve said consistantly this season they’ll stay up as to me they have more grit than Norwich who are too easy to score against.”

Villa fan getting his neutral perspective from a Man U forum? Or vice Verda. Bit odd?

Had me puzzled when I was reading the later one and getting a weird sense of deja vu.

Out of curiosity I had a look and the one on the Man Utd forum was posted a bit earlier than the one on Villa's forum. BUT the guy who posted it supports Villa it says against his avatar on Man U forum so it might be the same guy. If so that's even weirder to go to the trouble of paraphrasing to that extent rather than cut and paste your own post.

It's generally the relegation candidate clubs that are sure we are for the drop and play direct thuggish football. Like some sort of mental protection. Maybe if they say it enough then it will come true. Another one - We are a smaller club. (Than Brighton FFS?) by a Brighton fan. Bet he never went to any games when they didn't even have a ground and were mincing around in div 4.
