So..... we over-achieved last season.

Hackety-hackety-hackety-hack

Thats the spirit.

Vishnu Anandraj , The Football Faithful

“Sheffield United will be the biggest fall from grace. Chris Wilder’s side performed miracles last year but I’m expecting a dip this time around. Their form after the restart was mostly poor and I think they may struggle without the presence of a reliable goalscorer. “

I said top 6 ages ago, and am sticking to it.

The pundits predictions are just as lazy this time around as they were last time. Not wanting to look like dicks again by predicting relegation, but not being brave enough to predict that we will match or improve our performance from last season either. So it's all mid table meh, or flirting with relegation but staying up.

I am also already sick of hearing about how we will finish lower because so and so will be better this season. How about entertaining the possibility that we might be a bit better too?

Wilder doesn't go backwards.
I’m with you on that one.
Second season syndrome is bollocks and there is no credible reasoning why we can not improve on last year.
Wilder knows the team and how to improve our play.
The reason for our crap restart last season was that the players were knackered. The exercise programme given to the players designed to keep them sharp back fired.I will not reveal the source so don’t ask.

I can well believe that. Interestingly Bash & Baldock stood out as being the most consistent outfield players in that period, and they always strike me as the fittest pair in the squad, so maybe coped with it better. Berge seemed to fo ok too, perhaps because he didn't have a full season's fatigue behind him.

Even Toby Foster was predicting how we will do with Giddings this morning.
What did Foster have to say then? I'm not sure he even follows football although I do remember him 'joking' about how difficult it was to get a play-off final ticket since so many people had come out of the woodwork.

I am fairly confident that improving the goals scored column will have been at the top of Wilder's list this summer.

this is probably true but it isnt reflected in the signings we’ve made thus far.

Well it sounds like another striker is nailed on, so we'll see. But I think a lot is going to rest with McBurnie and Mousset too. Both showed what they can do in patches last season. Get them firing as a unit, and keep Mousset fit, and I can seen them doing well.

The thing i like about CW is that he tends to learn from his mistakes, hence why we have improved season-on-season since he's been here. Compare him to the other CW (Colin W***er) who tended to make the same mistakes year-on-year with his Colin knows best attitude and very little improvement.

I'm more worried about the twelfth season syndrome! I also have no evidence of this syndrome. So, last year predications had us 20th and were off by 11 positions. This year an average of 12th gives us a 2nd place finish. That'll work.

Other pundits started writing us off. Tim Sherwood stating we will struggle this year just after Merson had bigged us up. Saw some Sky youth football programme on before Soccer AM. They had some Arsenal blogger saying West Brom, Villa and us to go down.

I just read that article and it’s Harry Diamond who wrote that. Vishnu said “VA: Sheffield United. Most people see Sheffield United dropping off from last season, but their approach is unique enough to continue to pose teams problems and they may be fighting for a Europa League spot again this season.”.

Peter Henry wrote this gem on “Biggest fall from grace” in the same section as Diamond’s shite: “PH: Dean Henderson, Man United. David De Gea will suffer his own fall, the media pressure will increase for England’s future number one to take over, before he also falls spectacularly and reveals himself to be Joe Hart in disguise.”.

Sherwood just said that the Huddersfield defender handled the ball "with his arm not attached to his body". Not the brightest.

Same owd same owd...........

Where have all the pundits gone,
long time passing.
where have all the pundits gone,
long time ago..
where have all the pundits gone,
stuck in limbo everyone
When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn..........:tumbleweed:

Cheers Roy

Cheers Panchero!

To be fair I wouldn’t have been at all surprised if they all had us down for relegation again. All the “basket case” teams we’re hoping will struggle like Newcastle, Wet Spam and Villa will inevitably spend big again. Fulham seem to be more measured in their spending and Palace kept their big names. Everton will only improve and Leeds seem to have the energy to drive them forward.

I think id rather they had us to go down tbh. Didnt hurt us last season!

Yes we know this....I was on about why the media plebs MIGHT perceive us to be relegation fodder again. It wouldn’t have surprised me with everybody else splashing the cash and also our inability to secure our No1 targets (Cash,Robinson,Swift)

A mixed bag really..........But probably about right. I really couldn’t understand last season predictions at all.

Well we've heard it from the experts in the media and on here, now lets just sit back and see what really happens.
My moneys on Mr Wilder and his team to put a wrecking ball through the lot. 🤞 🤞 🤞
