Obviously hasn't been following them very closely then! I know we haven't got the greatest of records against them, but we have beaten them at fairly regular intervals during that time, including a double in 1986-7.

Comments like that really do make it difficult to have any sympathy at all for them. Our neighbours clearly aren't the only ones with a "massive" complex.

We beat them twice that season, the second was in the first leg of the play offs and we also beat them in the League Cup under Warnock, and if my memory serves me right, we beat them under Harry too away 1 - 0.

I respect Sunderland though, and I hope they stay up, decent fans and they like us have to put up with deluded neighbours next door, albeit Newcastle have a right to brag, Wednesday don't!

That was one of those games that had us all scratching our heads and wondering how on earth we managed to get relegated that season. Anderson scored twice that day, but one of them would have graced a world cup final. Superb ball from (I think) Sabella and Anderson did the rest.

We also tonked WestHam 3-0 and Notts County 5-1, both of whom were sitting quite high in the league.
