Roy's View From... View From Sunderland

Felt we were the better team, it's the reverse of our earlier fixture. I'm fairly confident we'll finish above them.

Yeah, I don't share their views here.
They took the game to us at Bramall Lane, but last night we controlled it, however, we weren't good enough in attack.

They say that Cooper kept the score like he did. Well didn't Paterson do just that too? A penalty save, a nice stop from Brooks, a good save when Hamer tried catching him out at his near post.

Sunderland were very quick on the counter and we struggled with it in Midfield (Peck & Davies), but also in defence - Gilchrist, Robinson and to a lesser extent McCallum.
The performance showed how slow that XI was for us. Moore was woeful upfront - too slow on the deck, too weak in the air.

I did think, despite the morons around me that Brewster grew and grew into the game. He actually gave us a little pace and I'd like him to keep his spot at Watford.
At one point Brewster cleared a header and a guy nearby goes "well done McCallum."
His mate said - "That was Brewster"...
"No it wasn't"...
"It definitely was"...
"Nah, not having that!"
Some folk just want him to be shit to prove a point.

Anyway, we ultimately conceded 2 goals to mistakes:
  1. Robinson inexcusably trying to use his weaker foot to play it out when he had 2 unmarked players inside for a cushioned header.
  2. Moore being too weak and Peck not playing the ball and getting dispossessed.

Cheers Roy - I can’t read these anymore, no good for my mental health!
Football fans have lost the plot, I think. No loss is ever acceptable, it’s either an injustice or a disaster. No win is just a win, it’s a moral victory over those with money, revenge for an earlier injustice.
Last night was a good game against two good teams. Actually could have gone either way, but they had what we lacked, which was pace up front. I thought we were really good second half, they gambled on that second half approach and it paid off. 3 calamities by us got them the points. But it means no more than that, we don’t have to take to the streets wailing and gnashing our teeth, they don’t need the open topped bus just yet, but that’s what we are seeing.

Thanks Roy.

I think it is time to accept that the reason most football fans are so biased is they mostly don't bother researching what shape their rivals are in prior to meeting & just say what they see, & think they alone have a squad decimated by injuries for example. The "parachute payments" argument is lazy & is often not relevant, & take our bench last night for example, they will have had no idea that they were all kids with no experience. They say they have 9 out compared to our 5 but fail to mention our 5 (it's 6 anyway) are all starters, when you realise that you know we are down to bare bones.

Even the pundits in the studio spout garbage, can't remember if it was Chambers or Davies but pre game he said we had spent big on players in pre season! As Christopher Ward says, "Do your research".

They defended well, but O'Nien should've been exploited more, he was a calamity against anyone he let get in front of him.
Quite. O'Nien has done very well to be a regular player in a Championship side.

I'd actually quite like to see a centre back pairing for us of O'Nien and Robinson if it could be arranged. Several opposing forwards would get cleaned out in the process, but by God the club would have to issue Beta Blockers to the crowd at the gate.

O'Nien is an interesting player.

He couldn't cope with life at Sunderland in his first season and had to seek the help of some sort of mental therapist. Since that time he has been almost an ever present and although he is no Diego Maradona I always feel that every side needs a player like O'Nien. He wears his heart on his sleeve, is brilliant for the dressing room and opponents dont like him. He'd run through a brick wall for SAFC and his team mates.

However you take the rough with the smooth and last night was not a career highlight for him.

However he will be in line to play on Saturday for us v Portsmouth and is now our most appeared player at the SOL.

I'd for us to face him every week

I'm sure that SUFC will have their own O'Nien ie someone who may not be the most skilful but would run through a brick wall for you. If I'm right then best of luck whoever it is as they are the glue that keeps things together when it starts going belly up.

Robinson... you saw him last night smashed all the china in the shop and then stuck a few bits back together again

Sorry Roy, I don’t like to question you, but have you posted ‘The View From Wednesday’ by mistake? 🤔

I can't really argue with the majority of what they've said, just likely nearly every recent Roysview. There is a repetitive pattern in them all.

The only bits I don't agree on are the lazy parachute payment comments, and them comparing their 9 injuries to our 5. I'm guessing most of their injured players are squad players and not key starters, unlike all 5 of ours.

You should have read what was written by our fans when we lost to Stoke at the weekend:

- our manager should "fuckoff back to France"
- Sheffield United are far better than us and will rip us a new one etc

In otherwords it was reactionary shite - just like you have read above - that in reality any sensible person should take with a pinch of salt.

Just wait until the weekend and see what happens if we lose at home to Portsmouth. The whole thing will start all over again.

Far better read and take note of the more balanced views.
My summing up is based on years of experience; on trips to both Roker and the Sol and also on working alongside mackems.

That’s a shame that our fans have disappointed you so often with their views and manner

I would have hoped that along the way you would have met some who were more good humoured and balanced
I have met one. David Jones, the presenter on Sky Sports. Used to work with him when we were journo's together. Good lad. Been up to SoL with him. He had the TV star looks, I had a face for radio. The rest, as they say, is history. 😆

Hmmm
You’d have thought fans of a club that spent >£10m on Jack Rodwell (see also among others Torre André Flo; Didier Ndong -“who” I hear you say) ) would have a tad more insight into whether (alleged) massive spending has any correlation with the quality of the team on show

Absolutely this:
Just re-read Spout B(oll)ox yesterday

nb - on second thoughts don’t waste your time

My best mates are all Mackems and good lads. We always say us two clubs are humble. The Mags and the pigs are the polar opposite. They went last night and agreed we were the better team but then you boys were at the lane. As someone else said better we both have 3 pts than 2 pts. Irony being there would be less suicidal meltdown on here. Good luck v pompey.

Mundle, Rigg, Watson, Browne, Ballard, Cirkin have all started games this season.

Always hated the mackems. Spiteful little shithouse of a club, harbouring the bitterness of decades under Newcastle's shadow. A bit like Everton with Liverpool but with far less class. Would much rather see Burnley and Leeds go up than them.
You lot should get on well then 😂

I've not read the views, I know it will just annoy me and I've spent the last two hours doing online "Go learn" mandatory training!

But overall I've got a lot of time for Sunderland, decent club, great fans. We have so many injuries right now but in z couple if weeks I fancy us to compete really well. Id personally like ys and Sunderland to go up, Leeds can stay in the Championship!

Great club and great people.

We just need some players in then we’ll get back into form.

Except we aren't in your shadow are we? More wins in derby games, more doubles in derby games and above you now. Bigger attendances, better ground, better players, better academy and better prospects. For the "shithouse" club it must embarrass you massively. It probably wont, as your Wednesday arrogance will supersede reality.

All that and you still have an inferiority complex.

Mind you, how bad have you lot been when Wednesday still have accumulated 167 more PL points than you?

Absolutely dire.

More titles
More trophies
More PL points
More seasons in the top division

We were even called Blades and played at Bramall Lane before you.

Older yes. You aren't better than us on the pitch, you haven't got better players than us, better youngsters than us or better ground than us and you have an idiot in charge. Better really? Bigger? Smaller attendances, less finances, rented ground, dilapidated stadium and no hope of long term sustainability. Your inability to see reality is a major reason your club is rotten, as you'll back anything as long as its Wednesday.
