Always hated the mackems. Spiteful little shithouse of a club, harbouring the bitterness of decades under Newcastle's shadow. A bit like Everton with Liverpool but with far less class. Would much rather see Burnley and Leeds go up than them.

Let’s be honest, Sunderland aren’t going up on that showing.

The Sunderland fan in out matchday thread seems far more reasonable in his assessment than most of the quotes here.

Felt we were the better team, it's the reverse of our earlier fixture. I'm fairly confident we'll finish above them.

Be surprised if either of us get top 2 but I'd fancy them in the play-off's over 2 legs. Two evenly matched teams in both games but think we'd do them if both sides were at their strongest. Time will probably tell

“I think we’re doing well to keep pushing that top three considering they were all Premier League clubs last season, have spent cash and have parachute payments too. To be in the mix given our outlay and resources is a real achievement. “

Tbh, I'll usually ignore most comments about parachute payments (as most of them come from fans who would snap your hand off for them), but this lot moaning about parachute payments seem to forget what happened when they had them.

Leeds, a premier league club last season?

I used to think that the North East fans knew their football, but Sunderland fans disprove this. They have a lot of arrogance for a side that's slipped off the top and dropped off the pace only to get a decent result last night.

Like when we played against Swansea at home (and won) we had considerably more possession and we took the game to them, they played on the counter (similar to how they played at the lane) and last night it worked for them.

They defended well, but O'Nien should've been exploited more, he was a calamity against anyone he let get in front of him.

I also can't see them being in the running at the back end of the season.

If they think that was anything like their best performance of the season then it's out of ignorance for the team they beat

What about us? We are in the mix you know!

We made Sunderland look like the away team.

They sat back and parked the bus, then tried to get us on the break, it was a tactic that was working though.
All the stats show if any team deserved to win, altho a draw would have been fair, it was us but our defence let us down.

You should have read what was written by our fans when we lost to Stoke at the weekend:

- our manager should "fuckoff back to France"
- Sheffield United are far better than us and will rip us a new one etc

In otherwords it was reactionary shite - just like you have read above - that in reality any sensible person should take with a pinch of salt.

Just wait until the weekend and see what happens if we lose at home to Portsmouth. The whole thing will start all over again.

Far better read and take note of the more balanced views.

Sunderland sat back deliberately. We have done it umpteen times this season and for example did it against Leeds. sometimes it works and sometimes it didn't and last night it did. Its a very dangerous tactic in my book as all it takes, last night, was a slice off luck - its 2 v 2 and what do we do then?

Its main purpose that I can see is to draw the opposition in and give us the chance to break - that's because loads of teams has come to our place and simply parked the bus. Once they do that it's very difficult to break down.

Wow, I must have watched a different game to these, I suppose when you win it gives you a different perspective of the game.

In saying that I don't think there's that many brain cells knocking about up in that part of the country.

This parachute bullshit is lazy rhetoric

Where are Luton now? Could be relegated

What happened to Sunderland with their parachute payments less than a decade ago

Wolves did it 2012-14 before them - double drop

Working class club like ours, but bit of a chip on shoulder I sense

Are injury list arguments the new attendance arguments?! 🤷‍♂️

Steve there is no club more working class than Sunderland - shipbuilding? Mining?

You must know just as well as I do that after a victory we are great and you are shite. However you win on Saturday and all of a sudden we are the shittest team in the world and you are the 1970 Brazilians. That's how it works in the wonderful world of social media.

The parachute rhetoric is real however so is the likely debt that goes with it. -so its swings and roundabouts

As for our parachute payments - we wasted all of it. We completely imploded, fell through 2 divisions and were at the time perhaps the worst run football club in England. At one point in League 1 we owed £130m and had £40m parachute payments to keep us afloat. How we didn't go into administration is still a mystery to me.

As for Luton - the season isn't over yet - they may come with a late run. May sound implausible but anyone who tells Luton that there season is over would, I suspect, get a mouthful.

Overall over the two games we have both achieved 3 points, probably about right.
There is still a long way to go and we are very much involved in the automatic promotion race.
Biggest disappointment for me was the Burnley game.

Sunderland fans were frustrated not to come away from BL with anything and given the effort your players put in last night its obvious that you will have a similar feeling about coming away from the SOL with nothing.

Oh the irony of both teams missing a penalty in exactly the same circumstance.

This morning the world looks nice and bright from an SAFC perspective - although remember we are still 2 points adrift of yourselves. Sunday morning, if we lose at home to Portsmouth and the dark clouds will have gathered. Enjoy the wins because the disappointments come thick and fast in football.

Both teams have shown to be of a very similar. Right now, Sunderland have a better side than us. I expect that to change by next month but I don't think either of us are good enough for top 2.
