Blades came to town, defended well and did what we know they do very well, they punish the opposition.

The fact that Wes had one meaningful save to make shows they didn't batter us at all....they may have had more possession in the first half, thanks mainly to some sloppy defending and a non existent midfield but they did fuck all with it....

They didn't create a single clear cut chance even the save was a snapshot from outside the area
Reminded me of Leeds under bielsa in the championship ,everything was a 100 mph and shooting from everywhere

Our defence just kept them at bay knowing we had the quality to score ,not the sexiest of performances but one last season ( along with Swansea and Luton and probably boro ) we would have capitulated and lost ) surely that's something to be happy about Instead of the general feeling of negativity because we didn't just turn up and steamroll them

They took a few corners first half and that's about it, Wes made a great save second half.

I watched it with Preston commentary yesterday and their view was similar to some of these.

We weren’t brilliant first half, by any stretch, but we were rarely threatened despite them seeming to have more possession. They seemed quite toothless.

Their commentators moaned about the ref not giving them free kicks but then giving us free kicks. It was quite simple and the ref got most right.

They then said, late on that Preston had played the ball beautifully and we’d just kicked it into the stands… and that they’d been hard done to because they deserved at least a point.

We set ourselves up to stretch them with Brewster and Ollie up top and N’Diaye/ Berge in behind. I do think that we needed more bite in midfield and perhaps additional pace up top, but Heckys plan worked as N’Diaye grabbed his goal from collecting the ball after running from deeper

Second half was a much different story. They were already out of ideas

On dear, that's a pretty sad bunch. They didn't batter us, we aren't the worst team they've lost at home to, we were average not absolutely crap.....and on and on they go. The goal they gifted us? How so? There were 3 defenders who were left flat footed by some sublime skill, reminiscent of a certain George Best goal some years back but no, sour bunch of bastards can't even give any credit for that because they're too busy fucking sulking.

Some of thier comments are bang on, we were crap first half, we were expecting them to score a few times, but they didnt!, went down just before halftime...queue our number 29! Missed the goal we weren't expecting and the concourse erupted!! Smokebomb went off, red smoke billowing out of the stand, and it was just as if a switch had been thrown!
Second half was totally different, we couldve had 4.
We sang all game, my throat is knackered, but 2 goals, 3 points, TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!!

I was talking to a few Sheff Utd fans who were getting on a mini bus and they all said that the better team lost today.

This didn't happen.
The best team won.

Yes I thought that as well - never happened. Yes we were lethargic in the 1st half but they didnt have any real chances and in the whole match Wes had just one save to make .

Reminded me of some of our Prem games. Yeah, Preston looked alright for large parts of the game and the did a very good job pressing and harassing us to put us off our passing game, but all we needed to was score and even without being on top of our game you aren't going to bet against us. N'Diaye had three decent chances, he took arguably the hardest one and made a hash of the other two, but he was going to take one. From there...sorry, it was game over.

Preston's attack is woeful. The classic comments about "All we need is a twenty goal a season striker" as if that's an easy thing to find, but their approach play is awful. Three goals in ten games has been said before, so to give a little context the next lowest is seven! Three goals isn't just poor, it's abject. You can't be that poor and then feel hard done by.

Anyone else remember the play-offs vs Burnley where we went a goal down to a great finish but basically knew that was the end of things? That was Preston yesterday.

I wouldn't say battered but they were the much better team in the first half. We went in at HT one up but didn't deserve it. Second half, we were much better.

Thought it was a weird match in that PNE pressed us really well and they totally dominated midfield in the 1st half. Initially thought they looked a really good team then you realised they hardly created a single chance. They had plenty of attacks and took up some great positions but either their final ball was really poor or our defending was great.

We didn’t attack as much but looked a higher quality outfit. Once we made it 2-0 it was game over and we won fairly comfortably in the end.

Thought Preston played well but the important stat for me is that Fodders was virtually a spectator the whole game. This shows how comfortable we were.

The save he pulled off towards the end was really good, and after spending 90% of the game doing not much at all, he could quite easily have switched off.
