I'm afraid we have had to cut short Pinchy's post due to a lack of space.
With apologies to Private Eye.
sat for 10 secs...... then stood with hands in pockets! What did you do when they scored?
An Oldham fan on Twitter says they played decent football and we "should try it sometime"
This what we are dealing with here
Cheers Roygbiv
They don’t seem to understand that their embarrassment of a pitch is why we played like we did (rightly or wrongly).
It seems Wilder had a look at it and conceded that we wouldn’t be able to play any football and as such, picked a side to battle and scrap instead.
If they want to understand why we are top of the league, they should try watching us on a football pitch instead of that quagmire.
It’s ridiculous that clubs can’t keep their pitches in better condition than that. It’s played on about once a fortnight and they have ground staff looking after it yet it’s worse than most Sunday league pitches. Can’t help but think it might be deliberate as a leveller to bring teams down to their level. No coincidence that all 3 subs were forced by injury.
Mmmm. I'm reluctant to go down this "blame the pitch" route. Good footballers should be good footballers whatever the surface.
Blaming external factors is a bit iffy IMO. Where does it end? Pitch too narrow, too wide, too long, too short, sun in our eyes, too cold, fans sang nasty songs. It's up to us to adapt and perform as required. That's what good teams do.
We did adapt and picked up a point. The pitch was absolutely atrocious and not conducive to decent football. I'm not blaming the pitch for us not winning. But our style and quality of football were most definitely affected as I dare say any team's would have been. I'm not sure if you were there but this wasn't your standard "poor pitch" it was beyond atrocious and worse than most at sunday league level. As I say, it's enough to make you wonder if it's intentionally that bad. I'd say we did adapt but the result wasn't pretty.
No mate,I wasn't able to go Saturday and accept what those with first hand knowledge say about the pitch. My point is more general than specific. I'll be interested to see how Bolton fair when they go there shortly.
Until the last 5 mins he seemed to misjudge everything, and be running in the wrong direction.Where was Billy Sharp between the hours of 3 and 5 pm, funny enough I asked myself the same question.![]()
Me and my twinnys were sat in the north stand aswell,my boys had their shirts on,we sat nearest the blades and there was a couple of other blades sat round us,we didn't have any bother, just the odd stare as if to say how dare you,but at end of day we're only there to a football match, just before ht I asked a steward if we could move on to where the Blades were and he said yes,it was 5mins before they scored, much better with the blades as my boys got some shade from that baking sun.I went to Boundary Park, and managed to get tickets for the new North Stand sat with the Oldham fans.
Thing that surprised me was the absolute vitriol towards us at every single opportunity, there were loads of kids in this stand aged for 6/7 upwards and groups of grown men thinking nothing of Effing this and Fooking that almost constantly throughout the match, My young son asked me if we could move from out allocated seats after just 5 mins due the idiots sat in front of us, we did and move again at half time to go down to the Chadderton Rd end so we could see us attacking the Oldham goal, yet again we had sat behind us grown men swearing "Eff you thick Yorkshire sheep botherers", or words to that effect. Yet again, kids all over the place and not a word said to the perpetrators.
Sat with 'Home' fans before, but this lot really left a sour taste.
Then on the way out a blades fan was assaulted as the Blades fans exited the ground, which plenty witnessed.
Thank God we won't be visiting this hole for a good while,..... hopefully.

I was also in the North Stand at Blades end , blinded & roasted by the sun but even more irritated by the surprising numbers of absolute shitheads in what is a "side" stand. I guess they all turned out due to the known sell-out by Blades.Me and my twinnys were sat in the north stand aswell,my boys had their shirts on,we sat nearest the blades and there was a couple of other blades sat round us,we didn't have any bother, just the odd stare as if to say how dare you,but at end of day we're only there to a football match, just before ht I asked a steward if we could move on to where the Blades were and he said yes,it was 5mins before they scored, much better with the blades as my boys got some shade from that baking sun.
Where we were sat there was about 15/20 young kids,16/20yr olds, they was giving blades verbals but really couldn't get there heads round how we dare sit with them, and when they wanted to pass us to go to concourse we stood up for them and they was very polite to us saying please and thank you, which made me chuckle seen as they wanted to kill the 4000+ plus blades behind the fence.I was also in the North Stand at Blades end , blinded & roasted by the sun but even more irritated by the surprising numbers of absolute shitheads in what is a "side" stand. Then again , I suppose it's a bit like our SS H-block version of nutters who go there to get as close as possible to away fans and hurl abuse.
I stuck it for a while and then moved down towards the Chaddy End , out of the sun and away from the knuckle-draggers.
Plus I got to see us attack (for a very limited time) in the second-half.
If we are limited to allocations of 3,000 in the Championship , it's touch and go whether (with my paltry 12,000 points due to not living in Sheffield) I'll be able to get in with the Blades , even when we shed the recent influx of glory hunters , as we no doubt will if promotion's not in sight.
There should be a different way of giving some ticket priortiy to people who see the Blades more away than at home.
