Pet Shop Boys at number one the last time we conceded 5 at home. Forgot just how bad things were back then!

And the last team to score 5 at BDTBL were Oldham in 1988 with McEwan in charge.
Thought Fulham were tremendous in the first half. The quality and speed of their passing even left us in the shade. Not something you could say about any team over the last couple of years.
They made the ball do all the work and at times we actually struggled to get hold of it.
Mistakes at the back and a couple of cruel deflections finally made it all too much but the character showed was there again and I'm not particularly worried as I don't think we'll see another performance against us again this season like that one.
We may not win every game - of course - but if we show the same determination (without the mistakes) on Saturday I think Birmingham could be in for a rough day.
Walked out with a Fulham fan who was very clued up about us. I agreed with him that Fleck was fantastic and Brooks is going to be very special but even he said we were unlucky tonight to run into them on that form as they've been toothless all season.
Forward as one.
Looking forward to Saturday already.

Still proud,

UTB

These comments sum up how far we've progressed. Be in no doubt, tonight's Football Heaven will be full of the usual illiterate pigs who will be mighty relieved by our result.

'Yes Mick/Mark/whatever Pitsmoor inbred who rings every night...'

'Aaah don't want to talk about Yoonited...but...Aaah think they've been found out and it's time for Wilder to go.'*

Not a fucking chance! We're all United, realise that there are no easy games in the Championship and would rather go down fighting than watch the turgid shite served up by Clueless Carlos. Roll on Saturday!

If we lose the next six games on the trot - making it seven in all - we'll be on exactly the same points as Fulham had after 24 games last season, and they got in the play-offs.

* And to prove how biased Radio Pig are, a few years ago before a night match under Weir, I was accosted by a RS guy who was interviewing people for live broadcast. He asked me before they went 'live' what I would be talking about. Do they do the same with Mick/Mark/Brian? Do they interview Blades leaving a typical Wilder game? Do they fuck.

Can't argue with any of that. Best side to visit so far this season easily.

Cheers Roy

Very good side going forward, not sure how they are where they are based on that performance to be honest.

Bad night at the office, we suck it up and move on.

Well said. If anyone was wondering how to improve a very good Sheffield United side then Fulham provided some examples last night. Get some bloody pace in there! That's just about all that is standing between us being a very good side and an excellent one.

In terms of getting pace into the team, would it have to be a striker to replace Sharp (Devante Cole maybe)? Not having a pop at Sharp, I just wouldn't replace the wing-backs (when Baldock / Freeman are fit) and the 'Duffy role' is more about creativity than pace. Maybe a return to Clarke and Brooks up front would work.

Some comments from Slavisa Jokanovic.

Speaking to the press after a pulsating encounter in south Yorkshire, the Serbian head coach said:

It was a crazy game. It was great entertainment for the supporters, a little bit less for us! We needed a victory after some games where we didn’t play at a good enough level. We must be satisfied with three points, and now we keep moving forward.

We tried to attack them where in the past they have tried to attack teams. We found space, we played with fast players, they found this space very well and they showed their quality to finish the chances we created. I think we caused more problems and damage than they did. At the end of the day, there’s only one goal difference, I feel we deserved a little bit more of a comfortable victory, but they’re one of the best Championship teams and I must be satisfied.

Jokanovic was critical of how easy Leon Clarke found it to notch another Championship hat-trick, bemoaning the poor defensive mistakes that allowed the Blades back into a contest that had seemed cut and dried.

We tried to stop their centre-backs overlapping, we tried to stop them getting many people in our box. They found some space between our lines and did some damage. For the first, second and third goals I didn’t think they did enough to score them, but in the end it’s our fault they scored four goals and we need to be more solid. We cannot expect to score five goals to win a game.

The Fulham head coach was full of praise for how the home side kept going in adversity and the way in which his opposite number Chris Wilder changed the contest late on.

Sheffield United are a team in great form. They are full of confidence, they are a fast and strong team who play with energy to win games. They are only recently promoted from League One, but they are one of the realistic candidates to be a Premier League team next season, and so you have to respect the coach and the team for what they’re doing this season.

I think we may have seen one of the best managers, Fulham studied what we do and did it better than us on the night.
Their wingers were super fast, the lad who scored the hat trick is only 17, though it was his 50th start and I think he was showing off.
Not many teams will have 6 chances and score 5 goals.

Fabulous game though.

Keep positive - UTB.

Agreed their manager and coaching staff won the game because they worked us out. I've been relieved how few have done this despite the technology and coverage at their disposal. I was impressed by Holloway's tactics but it seems rare. My concern is the return games when teams will be wiser.

For all the rubbish being spouted by some of their fans in your pre-match view, they've balanced this out tonight.

I presume the weapons grade twat who called us cheats at DirtyLeeds hasn't apologised?

They were just (and I mean just) better than Norwich for their time wasting, injury feigning and needle off the ball. Twice Clarke got dragged down in their box, numerous cheating at freekicks and booting the ball away, all appeared to miss Stevie Wonder in the middle.

Cheating Cockney wankers and the shame is they didn't need to do it.

That's why he was the first foreign manager to get a club promoted from the championship.

Worked us out ?
So all teams have to do is play 3 pacy skillfull strikers ping the ball around like Brazil and pressure us all over the pitch ?

Well were fucked then the championship is full of teams like that

I think we'd struggle against Fulham if we played them regularly yes, fortunately most teams and managers are inferior to us and less well prepared e.g. Hull, Burton, Wednesday, etc. Realistically, most will be better prepared for the return game but not all.

You'd also like to think that Wilder and Knill will be better prepared as well in case we need a plan B.

Agreed, I'm sure they will and our football has constantly transforming and improving over the last 15-16 months which is credit all round. Putting my ultra positive spin on, with no Coutts in the team, there is no option but to adapt our style and play slightly differently.

Cairney was class last night, sessegnon was also very good they were seriously slick in patches and the game turned on that first goal we gave them just as we were starting to get on top in the game. I doubt both Cairney and sessegnon will both be there when we play them again after January. I still feel Halls at Brentford was the best opposition midfielder I've seen this season (and he could stay on his feet)

Agree Roy fair comments from West London

They are best team we’ve played this season by a country mile , very comfortable on the ball & lightning quick up front .
I think last night showed just how much we’re gonna miss Couttsy well at least until the transfer window opens , felt sorry for Fleck last night worked his bollocks off & tried to get us on top in the middle of the park , but every time he got closed down & there work rate was on a par with ours there was no option behind him in the middle where Coutts normally operates . Not going to slate Lundstram the kid did his best but he’s no Paul Coutts & the next 6 weeks I think will go along way in determining the path now that our season will go .
Also missed Baldock badly last nite we had no width down the right until Brooke’s came on , again Basham did his best but doesn’t offer the same .
Just one of them games , they’re a good side who I’m sure will be in or around the top 6 ( pre-season I put them & Wolves as top 2 ) , we dropped bollocks & they punished us & also had the rub of the green with the few things .
Let’s put it behind us , move on & back the lads to the hilt , are you listening the early departure wankers ? We’ve had an outstanding season to date , way above where any of us imagined we’d be at this stage .

Who is Brooke and what of his came on?

Great 3 points but my god all 4 of there goals were too soft

strange game 9 goals but 8 of the goals both fans thought were too soft

Nowt wrong with Erasure. They made some of the best pop music of their era.

i remember going to an Erasure concert in Peterborough, 1988, as an innocent 16yr old. Bought my ticket from HMV just up road from Redgates and got coach from outside Sheaf Valley baths. On the way home i had several offers to join in a house party, but declined as i was in work the following day. It was about 5 years later when i realised how close i was to been ripped a new one, or worse still a prelude to a Michael Barrymore pool party.
not sure how it wasn't obvious at the time, but in my defence most pop stars of the day work make up and Lycra.....

I agree Fulham where very good going forward ,
Or was it a result of the mistakes we had made at the back panicking our usual solid defence .
Watching the game , and as I posted that night , once we went wide and speeded it up
There defence was just as bad , and in fact seemed to panic more than ours ,
If the mistakes hadn't happened , I would have been confident in beating them ,
This rubbish about teams finding us out is pig nonsense ,
We play the way we play , let the other teams worry about us ,
Teams adapt as we do , it happens all the time
The league is settling down , and the teams we all thought would rise to the surface are in fact doing so
Ourselves excluded ,
We've been outplayed in one game , and in half a game in another ,
I can't wait for every game to come around now ,
And looking forward to Saturday's game

Fulham play Millwall at Craven Cottage tomorrow - bet Millwall don't give them the freedom we gave them on Tuesday.
