I only had to travel from lounge to kitchen and my blood was boiling when I heard the team.

I thought Blackwellian style resigning from cup competitions was a thing of the past, sadly not.
 
It was still 11 first team players out there. I genuinely think that's fine. If it was 11 kids I'd be more pissed off.

A League One side that has eyes on their place in the Championship, rather than a spot in third round of the Cup. I wasn't "livid" at the team selection, I thought Adkins was being sensible. Never like to see my team lose, but in the long run? I'll have forgotten that match sooner rather than later.

I wasn't livid either, more relieved that I wasn't going to the game. It also make it easier to not bother too much with match updates, fully expecting to lose.

And while the Baxter sending off was bloody stupid, it gives a nudge to Wallace (J) to make a claim for a regular place which in my view he is more than capable of, injuries permitting.

Give over. Yes the past two seasons have been enjoyable with the semi final cup runs but our focus must be promotion this year. I don't fancy playing the likes of Fleetwood, Rochdale and Walsall again. We have to give ourself every possible chance and with a game against our promotion rivals swindon on Saturday, which will be the 7th game in the first 21 days of the season, it would have been stupid to play our best XI

Fine. But if they don't intend to win the tie they should tell the fans so that no one wastes their money.

Too right. I really hope we get promoted so we can spend the next 10 years in the Championship playing the likes of Brighton, Rotherham and Brentford...

I would so much rather win a cup than get promoted, and was gutted with the team and performance yesterday. Our first 11 would have easily been a match for them.

I'm sure the intention was still to win, but using other members of the first team squad to lighten the load on players who have already played five games in two weeks. Job done, and Baxter and Wallace (K) apart the squad should be fresh and ready for Swindon.

Hate to break it to you, but this team are winning no major trophies this season, let's be realistic about this! But promotion is achievable, makes sense to focus more on that.

So, aside from two of the three first team starters who played last night being suspended for the league game, it was a success?

All we achieved was getting knocked out. Our attempt to protect the first team was a dismal failure.

We might have have suffered less damage fielding an unchanged team.

Narrow defeats in semis in each of the last two years would suggest that it's not impossible.

No so we're a step closer to the premiership to play the likes of Bournemourth Watford and Norwich
 
I think 10 changes was too many. As I said on a thread before the game, I wanted to see the defence have more game time together but I would certainly have put McNulty and Higdon up front as was the case. The defence is threadbare though so I can see why Adkins did it.

I think the JPT fixture next week played a big part in his thinking. Don't the rules for that competition mean you have to start 5 or 6 players who also started the previous league game? If he knows that he is going to have to play a strong core of the squad next week anyway he maybe felt this game would just be one too many to risk.

Yeah because those defeats showed we would have beat chelsea and arsenal in those finals.

Who was the last lg1 side to win a cup? We have a far better chance of winning one of the cups if we get to the premiership.

How do we know if it was a success until after the weekend? If fact until the end of the season.

If we do go up I will look back at our early lg, FA ad JPT cups exits and won't give a toss.
 
Not sure where the logic is in questioning Adkins resting players for what will be a tough and more important game on Saturday.

I'm glad Adkins took this as an opportunity to rotate the squad and keep us fresh.

I's like to see us take the FA Cup more seriously though, the Capital One cup doesn't interest me one bit.
 
It was also a chance for the "fringe" players to show Nigel they are worth a place in the first team, but sadly I think it only confirmed what he probably knew with the exception of James Wallace.

The most irritating aspect being the needless sending offs - stupid, stupid. I've defended Baxter's ability but what was he thinking, another idiotic moment that will cost him his place for the next 3 games and potentially longer. Hopefully Wallace is ready to play 90 minutes on Saturday but the biggest problem surely is in defence with Kieran Wallace now suspended too. I think that's already been discussed on another thread but it's going to interesting how we line up on Saturday v what I think will be our main promotion rivals and a game which should provide an idea of how good we really are.

I've seen some say, "it's only Swindon", yes, but they have put 5 past us in the last 2 games down there.

Well eight of last Saturday's team will have had a whole weeks recovery and Adams played around 10 minutes. So they'll be in better shape for Saturday and our encounter with Swindon, hardly a dismal failure.

How on earth could we have suffered less damage fielding an unchanged team? Are they impervious to fatigue? And what if they'd been beaten too? Or we'd had extra time and penalties while Swindon have a full week to prepare. According to some on here, in Byrne they have a player that Ronaldo aspires to be, so we may need all the preparation we can get.
 
They do at least acknowledge it was a United reserve side. And that we significantly contributed to Kit Symons keeping his job for another couple of weeks.
