“SU had a few chances and a better team could have punished us. “

“Still took us over an hour to score our first goal past a league 1 team that got smashed by Gillingskum. “

“ So they’re a league below us and send their reserves but we still pretty much play our strongest side. Guess tonight was about keeping Kit’s job rather than maximising our squad depth “

“If I had come all the way from Sheffield to London to see my team play in the cup and they made 10 changes I would be livid…”

“Let’s not get carried away they’re a league below us, in the premiership we would’ve expected to beat championship teams and in the championship, there’s an equal quality gap to that of championship and premiership. We should have won that – it took a penalty in the 65 minute to set us on our way and two sending offs before the third – the score line flattered us."

“People are aware of the fact that United rested 10 players tonight ?
We beat a League One reserve side “

“Pleased with the result but we were still so poor in the 1st half. “

“can’t understand why Sheff Utd fielded such a weak side”

“They want to focus on getting promoted.”

Actually, the majority seemed to think otherwise
My post was aimed at the remark about being pleased they beat us, but I do take your point onboard :)

It was also a chance for the "fringe" players to show Nigel they are worth a place in the first team, but sadly I think it only confirmed what he probably knew with the exception of James Wallace.

The most irritating aspect being the needless sending offs - stupid, stupid. I've defended Baxter's ability but what was he thinking, another idiotic moment that will cost him his place for the next 3 games and potentially longer. Hopefully Wallace is ready to play 90 minutes on Saturday but the biggest problem surely is in defence with Kieran Wallace now suspended too. I think that's already been discussed on another thread but it's going to interesting how we line up on Saturday v what I think will be our main promotion rivals and a game which should provide an idea of how good we really are.

I've seen some say, "it's only Swindon", yes, but they have put 5 past us in the last 2 games down there.

Swindon have put 5 past us in each game . However Adkins is a PR dream , and a positive for the blades . Behind closed doors i can imagine he is a real hard nasty bastard , who suffers fools lightly .

He appears to treat players all the same and equal . If they let him down , they will be on there way . Thats why we will win on Saturday . This is a differant SUFC from last season , and even the nicey , nicey , give em all a clean slate chance at Gillingham.

Swindon , Fleetwood , Crewe , Oldham , Blackpool etc etc etc , are ALL a big threat , and have to be treated with respect and caution .

Adkins like us wants winners not , i couldn't care a fuck players. Failure is not in the blades vocabulary any more or accepted.

Well eight of last Saturday's team will have had a whole weeks recovery and Adams played around 10 minutes. So they'll be in better shape for Saturday and our encounter with Swindon, hardly a dismal failure.

How on earth could we have suffered less damage fielding an unchanged team? Are they impervious to fatigue? And what if they'd been beaten too? Or we'd had extra time and penalties while Swindon have a full week to prepare. According to some on here, in Byrne they have a player that Ronaldo aspires to be, so we may need all the preparation we can get.
In his interview, Adkins said a couple of first teamers were carrying knocks and he wanted them to rest to try to get over them.

I wish Fulham well and I hope they have a good cup run, because I'd much rather salute them in passing as they come down and we went up ....

To be honest I was over the moon at the team selection, esp as several players I forgot we had, like McGahey, Alcock, Higdon etc. I was even more happy with the result (Much to my wife's surprise). We need to stop cocking around in cup competitions and chuck everything at the league. The only problem was the red cards, I wouldn't have even brought Baxter on.

I would do the exact same thing in the paint trophy. Play the reserves and tell them they are playing for a first team chance.
