View From Derby

Once we've shrugged off this "new boy" tag. "Middle o the road" teams like Derby will start to respect us more.
The real big clubs tend to be a tad more gracious in defeat.

I see the low lifes are out on twitter.

I won't post what's been said. But Jesus wept what goes through people's "minds" to post such horrible comments.

I know it's social media and faceless but feel sickened by such comments.

We love you Billy. Fk the minority
If it what I think it is, then these are vile individuals who need to be prosecuted, I see a Barnsley fan on Youtube apologised for the comments from an individual at last weeks game. These idiots are in a minority.

Just read the entire match-day thread (extended Roygbiv "Views From") and have to say it's a great read from start to finish; a wonderful diary of events that totally misses out on reality. Derby were 2nd best on so many fronts today and were out-played, out-fought, out-run and out-classed by a proper team (by "team" I mean it in the true sense of the word). The goals they conceded were a result of players being under serious stress and pressure. From the off they were stunned by what they were up against, and that toe-poke for the 2nd goal was the touch of a player just desperate to get a touch to try and stem the tide. Let's face it - 4 or 5 nowt would not have flattered us; we were that good today, and Derby fans can spin it anyway they like - most of them going down the "we were so crap today against an average outfit" route to try and rationalise the manner of their defeat. Like many of our fans, they hopelessly under-estimate the RAWW.
We are here to make our mark - and as I keep saying to the doubters - Chill-out; sit back and enjoy the ride!

Before we get too excited, Cardiff were a lot better than us. Just sayin'. Feet on the ground yet

With every game we learn more about the quality of the competition, but we already know our own quality from having seen the Wilder era develop. We're beautifully balanced and grooved, but slightly once-paced and reliant on a poacher up front. I'd suggest we're an injury crisis away from a relegation struggle, or 4 quality signings away from a promotion push.

Derby have far bigger names, better athletes, and more pace. But on today's showing they lack hunger and cohesion. As the fella sat next to me today said, the biggest danger about being in a league for as long as Derby is complacency. To my eye they have too many players who have little left to prove in their career.

'Little team'? You just know comments like that have been written by 18 year olds who don't even remember us being in the playoff hunt, year in, year out until we employed a long line of shithouse managers.

Fuck off Derby.

This for me is the biggest determining factor at play in a successful (or unsuccessful team): genuine hunger to achieve and a burning desire to win and prove a point, whatever that point may be.

Lots and lots of modern day players are physically and technically gifted enough, but for me it's what goes off in their heads that is the most important thing to know about. Managers like Sam Allardyce, Klopp and (I hope) Wilder seem to be able to identify what drives and motivates their players, and set the fire underneath them that doesn't "push" the player but "pulls" the player to perform positively and consistently.

Good managers seem to be 80% psychologists these days because, as I said before, most players have already been coached well as footballers.

From this perspective, we will catch more teams out than Derby. It's just that, if we can establish a foothold in this league again, can Wilder keep finding and bringing in those players with a point to prove rather than the type of player that got us relegated in the first place.

I thought they were incredibly quietly today.

We make far more noise away from home.

We made far more noise at home.

Maybe the early goal took the wind out of their sales. But they were really poor.

Ironically the only time I heard them was when they sang '1 nil and you still don't sing '.
I heard them sing twice after fifteen minutes. We're shit and we know we are and we've had a shot on goal. I like fans who can laugh at themselves,

I looked down the Derby team and subs today and thought "shit, they've spent a fortune". Expected them to be much better.

That being said, we were immense.
Harrying, hassling, closing them down.

They brought a large number of fans but we're virtually silent from the first goal.

Our midfield ran the show, was as impressed with Duffy as I was with Coutts.

Felt sorry for Carruthers as thought he likes really sharp when he came on too.

Another great day at the lane.

David v Goliath ? Shitty little team ?

Clearly, pigs fans are the most deluded fantasists on the entire planet but this lot are certainly giving them a good run for their money.

Totally agree. In the era of crazy money it has become an even bigger factor. Somehow we need to keep this hunger in our squad whilst also paying what's necessary to retain and recruit. Tough job...

We know we still need to bring players in, we are a bit one paced and at the moment we have to go with two smallish strikers who are not the fastest. What impresses me though is we are playing with our heads, we could easily be throwing balls into the box for the big defenders to easily deal with but no we are patient we pass it about side to side sometimes backwards we work our openings by keeping good possession and pressing when we don't have the ball. I only hope McCabe doesn't see how good we are and think we don't still need to strengthen in certain areas. 5th in the league, early days and all that but 2-3 additions could really get us going.
