Don't know the stats but we could've been 3 or 4 up before they scored. Then we struggled but in the game as a whole we deserved to win. Imagine finishing the game as we started it. in other words reverse the game around and everyone would say we definitely deserved to win.

best football I’ve seen at meadow lane for a while.

My heart bleeds for you, if that is the case.

Murphy was class and they appreciated that, deserved a draw? You don't always get what you deserve.Top night ,great Blades support!

Great win on a tough surface (players seemed to slip a lot?). Started really brightly but game shifted after they got a slightly fortunate equaliser. Second half was a battle. We have often lost or drawn those games in the past, so take the positives and move on.

Cheers for the post btw Roy.

A notts co fan summary which was sent to my mate:

"Blades had majority of first half and we went to sleep for their goal, until we eqaulised then we had 15 min spell. Notts got tight for first 20 mins of second and stopped Utd playing. Thompson missed a one on one but typical Notts with shocking defending let utd take control again . On balance Utd deserved the win."

Fast work all round. Much appreciated*.

I don't think we could have complained at a draw - especially after we didn't get a second, or even a third, in that first half hour.

*If you could get these up before the end of the game it'd be greatly appreciated, especially when the ref finds 5(!) minutes for them to catapult balls into our box (fetcher la vache), bc then I could just check my phone to find out if we've hung on instead of having to live through it.

First time in ages their comments haven't included ref complaints and us going down easy.

Maybe they were just happy with their performance or are we starting to toughen up a bit?

'There's something about Sheffield United that brings out the best in us.'

Go back to the first game of last season at BDTBL. I cannot recall a more inept performance from an away team. It was David Wer's first game in charge and we looked like world beaters. That's how bad they were! Even the goal shy Kevin McDonald scored

I went with a couple of County fans.
Murphy drew a lot of praise, Done a pain to defend against.
They were not happy with the defending for both goals as their right back (highest paid player in team) was given runaround by Murphy.
They said they can't compete with with us. 18th in the wage bill table. I couldn't believe what they were saying about budget.
As an aside Steven Pressley and Dean Saunders were in the hospitality area at half-time and the County sponsors named their No3 as their man of the match. They were gutted to have not got a point.

I think you can see why they would be disappointed as if you were a County fan you would feel like a point was the least they deserved. They were woeful first 20minutes or so and I felt for Carroll for the Murphy goal.

County didn't play particularly nice football (not that dissimilar to what we saw withheld Blackwell?) but they managed to draw us into that kind of game and stopped us retaining the ball with pressure as we lumped it forward into the channels, more often than not conceding possession. Frustrating for us, but for them and their fans, it was a positive.

We were poor last night I thought, not awful, but not at our best. But a win is a win, and winning games when we aren't at our best is the way to get promoted. Based on that view of it, you can understand their fans view.

Thanks again Roy, always look forward to have a read of what the other side thought.

“OMG we didnt deserve to lose that game. We played fantastic ”

Another team raising their game when playing us, which weirdly makes us crap according to them.

3k fans really?

That's good

3K fans from the allocation given to sell at BDTBL sold out PLUS another 3K allocated to sell at Meadow Lane on the day. My guess was at least another thousand of those sold making about 4thousand out of 6 and a half thousand there

Glad we won of course, but I'm also glad we didn't murder them like it looked we would at the start and get Shaun Derry the sack.

Playing Doyle Coutts Reed and Holt in midfield is like bringing Kennedy and Basham up for corners a waste of time in front of goal...

There were 2,936 Blades there last night according to Notts County.

Im amazed at this with Derry ,I know a really big County fan who is also going to be a prominent ref soon ,and he says he is resigned to the fact that Derry will go soon as he is being looked at by bigger clubs. Many fans think he has done a brilliant job ,yet the vocal minority always want someone different. Same at every club I suppose they will have a gobshite called Brian the mag who craves attention and talks uneducated bollocks while stirring up trouble betwenn the fans.

I phoned United ticket office the day before the game and was told that they had sold out our allocation of 3000. Notts had reallocated a further 3000 to be sold on match-day and there were plenty of Unitedites buying at the box office and turnstiles. We were in the block that were reallocated and there was at least a thousand with us.

It wouldn't be the first time that a club published a lower than actual gate figure would it?

The original allocation was 1,500, with 3,000 available for pay on the day which I believe ended in the usual fun of one or two cash turnstiles for 1,500 people.

LOL

Crowd 6,893
Blades 2936

Where did they hide the other 2000 County fans, were they in the hospitality boxes?

“Fuck sake, we should have won that. Beaten by another bizarre lucky goal. “ He must have missed their goal or he realy is blind.

Yes, an assist from Louis Reed. I think that's the first time I've seen him head a ball, bless him :-)

The flick in was reminiscent of one at Vale on Boxing Day. We seem a bit vulnerable to a cheeky backheel......

I'd agree with that. Good first half and looked to be cruising until they scored. Second half was a more competitive affair with chances for both sides. We weren't fantastic but we were professional and good enough on the night. If we can build on that performance [which we can] we will have a good run in. UTB

My response was that it was a fair summary, thought we rode our luck at times second half

Also their no 27 up front had a decent game. Caused Tel and his polished soles a few problems
