Clough only playing 1 up front ?? .. must have changed his methods since the swashbuckling cavalier all out attacking style he employed with us

Why does former England International and son of one of this countries greatest managers get labelled 'Funny Little Nige' by some on here?

Frankly he's pretty dour and around about average height.

It seems a bit strange to me. You might not like his management style... but don't act so bloody superior
He looks like the kind of bloke that belittles his wife in public.

"“Spent 2/3rds of season being too defensive & playing his mates.Paying for it now & running out of players! For me I still believe he should have gone in Nov.Was told he put his Notice in then but BR refused it?”

quality that, I can't stand funny little nigel.

Cheers Roy, appreciated as always:)
Another like for the top song choice too

I think they used the copy & paste function off here 3 years ago

The many likes he got indicate a lot more than that.

Are you sure you've got the right song there?

I never give credence to likes, look how many voted for Hitler?

BTW , It's a film actually
But to say' technically he signed Brooks' is akin to stretchering credibility as a rubber band put Neil Armstrong on the fecking moon.

Cloughs good for stabalising and steadying a ship. Perfect example being us; christ knows where we would have ended up that season if he hadnt come in, and for that half season alone we should all be pretty thankful for the guy.

His problem, as others have pointed out, is his cautious lack of ambition. Need to grind out draws and scrape the odd win to stay up? Nige is your man. Need to put together winning runs of 5 or 6 to push for top 2/ top 6? No chance.

Perhaps Burton due to their size/finances might end up being a stretch too far this season, but I’d not back against him to keep most sides reasonably comfortable in a division; he’s got mid-table written all over him (thought he was perfect for Rotherham the other year after their Kenny Jackett fiasco).
Another revisionist. He has NEVER steady a ship, apart from us when frankly my dog (whose name is not Martin Peters) would have kept us up.
CW got a enormous 29 more points in a season with FAR less resources
FACT any big club is miles out of his pay grade.
40 odd shit signings many on stupid wages..
Shit manager who trading off his dad name. Where will he go when he gets booted from Burton? Fecking non league

He presided over the lowest position continuous league position in Derby's history 130 year history.

I don't get frustrated, I just think that anyone who doesn't realise that Duffy is and has been a great player for us, knows fucking nothing about football. I find common traits to these fans are that we should constantly 'gerrit foward', any player that doesn't smash into tackles at the first opportunity is 'nesh' any player that tries a pass that doesn't quite come off is 'fucking useless' and in agreement with your post, if some players haven't scored a hat-trick, they've played crap. :D

Totally. And it's only when you realise this, you appreciate that Wilder builds his team around Duffy. The other midfielders (Fleck, Coutts and now Evans) it's their job to get the ball to him as quickly as possible and then move to a position where if he can't make something happen, he can pass it back to them....

The final piece (we caught a glimpse for the second goal on Tuesday) is a mobile, skilful striker making runs for him.

I really think that second goal on Tuesday was a glimpse into next season!!

You've lost me. What was a film?

But to say' technically he signed Brooks' is akin to stretchering credibility as a rubber band put Neil Armstrong on the fecking moon.

That wasn't his major point though and you are being overly selective. What he said was:

He was too negative, and made some questionable decisions but he provided some great entertainment in the cups and brought us Basham, Freeman, Coutts and technically Brooks too.

Charlton, Southampton and Spurs at home were some of the best games at the Lane since the Prem. Can you honestly say you didn't enjoy those or Villa, Fulham away and the Wembley semi?

I agree that the first team manager wouldn't really be involved in signing a 16 year old, so if this is your major beef against Clough then you win.

He has NEVER steady a ship, apart from us when frankly my dog (whose name is not Martin Peters) would have kept us up.

So his Derby record:
08/09: Appointed 5th Jan. Finished 18th, and stopped the Paul Jewell rot stemming from the disasterous PL season. Steadied that ship.
09/10: Finished 14th. Stuttered, mixed bag of results but never once in bottom 3. Steady if unspectacular.
10/11: Finished 19th- poor season. Negative displays backfired but never in serious trouble of being dragged in due to bottom 3 being so woeful.
11/12: Finished 12th. Comfortable, mid table. Started well, poor middle, ended well. Flirted with play offs, but didnt score enough goals. Given 3.5 year contract extension. The definition of a steady season.
12/13: Finished 10th. Great home form, were in with shot at play offs, tailed off. Again, steady if not spectacular.
13/14: Sacked end of September. Ironically, they’d started banging goals in but were also conceding.

Add last season with Burton to the list. And on seeing them the other night, I can see adding this season to another survival year.

Point of all of the above is this; was “steady” good enough for Derby County? Not after that first season, no. But steady is was it was. Good enough for teams with ambitions of promotion? No. Good enough for teams looking to consolidate in the division? Yes. Thats been my view and point on NC all along- you dont appoint him if you want promotion, but he’s a steady hand if your a club just promoted with not much expectation and want to consolodate in a division. Hence my point about how Rotherham would have been perfect.

CW got a enormous 29 more points in a season with FAR less resources
Who is arguing that CW isn’t superior?

40 odd shit signings many on stupid wages..
30 actually, including loans and perms. Dont disagree about some of the mad wages, but do disagree that Coutts, Freeman, Basham, Brayford to name four are/were “shit”.

I believe you've completely misunderstood my post ISC:

he provided some great entertainment in the cups
Here I'm in complete agreement with you regarding the cup runs. I started watching in 2002, so they are arguably amongst the greatest games I've seen.

brought us Basham, Freeman, Coutts and technically Brooks too.
I was pointing out that Brooks signed under Clough in order to justify my 'beef' - I was pointing out that Clough's era brought us some great players, who are still with us.

funny little nige?? 'cos he made some funny little decisions presumably.. in fact some of them were borderline weird
