Nowt up with Danny Wilson. The best football I've seen us play was under him. Once he had his best players sold, he still kept us very hard to beat. We were an effective team under him. He did a job on us today. They had a solid defence and nicked a goal. You can't really fault that.

Afraid I'll have to disagree...it's 'Blackwell syndrome' all over again for me.
Look at the squad/first eleven Wilson had in that first season...I could have romped the league with em'..he failed, miserably in the second season (and he'll fail with Barnsley)...and that tell's it's own story...

We were higher in the league and performing better than we are now when Wilson was sacked. Letting him go when we did was ridiculous.

Regarding DW's 2nd season with us: I think if we hadn't have sacked him we would have gone up in the play-offs. We certainly would have beaten f-ing Yeovil....

We don't win play offs.

That is our thing now.

Wilson 1st season ched 35 goals!!
Wilson 2nd season Nick błackman 14 goals1/2 a season
His second season he was swimming against the tide just like clough is now

Agreed. If McNuts is going to get stick for things then he shouldn't be the only one,and that includes Baxter sitters.Everybody should be getting openly criticised, not just McNuts, whether he misses or not,i really don't agree now with what Cloughy is doing regards McNuts.

I would rather he drop this criticising players publicly Wiz, getting to be a regular thing. Are his digs at McNulty to justify not playing him from the start ?.

I think we sometimes have to realise that things aren't always that straight forward. Didn't McNulty come off with a knock on Tuesday? So probably he wasn't 100%

Baxter did a job for Clough all last season and has done ok this season. So seemed logical I guess. Baxter has been out injured for a few weeks so is getting back to full fitness. My concern is that Baxter should be getting played in the Scougall role or if he plays up front, then the system only works when players like Scougall break into the box.

According to Keith Edwards and Clough the performance was there, but the finishing wasn't. So what do we do? Change the system at the risk that performances will drop off as they get used to a 4-4-2 or do we simply just slot McNulty in up front and Baxter in midfield?

The performance was there ? Not via my view from Row HH seat 153, it wasn't. Believe me, that wasn't one of those days where we made loads of chances, but didn't take them - far from it. We played moderately, and there were a couple of glaring misses - but watching with the careful attention of a man who sees Utd play live once or twice a season if I'm lucky, I'd struggle to remember the eight shots that the stats are citing.

Like I said elsewhere, I hope it was just a bad day at the office. And like others have said, we've been on a good run, home game, big crowd - so we stuff it up. It's the Blades way...

You don't shoot - you don't score
You don't get into the position to shoot you won't score
You don't play (a) striker(s) who anticipates this - you will not score

You will then have to rely on the midfield runners (only Scougs does this) or the wide fellers to get a goal in open play. Or the defenders from set pieces (Baxter ain't gonna rise like a Salmon and head one in from a corner - as he normally takes them)

Another way to look at it is this. Should NC have persisted with a fullback at CB (Alcock) and expect to keep a series of clean sheets?
Same logic should apply to the lone striker, then, surely.

This 4-5-1 system works IF you have a decent striker that can hold the ball up, chase lost causes down and still get in the area to get on the end of crosses. It also needs the opposite wise midfielder to get to the back of the box/ six yard area when their counterpart is crossing it in. We don't do any of this and some (NC included, it seems) are surprised at the lack of goals we score.

When was the last time Baxter scored a tap in?
(Clue : Brayford crossed it)

Yep.

I agree the timing was utterly bizarre ( like Blackwell's)...guess something else was going on behind the scene's...

I would propably agree mate if it had been the first time he'd not started him and as you know it isn't.Plus i never buy all that injured in previous games stuff because as i see it if you're fit enough to be on the bench you're fit enough to start, especially through a niggle.I think i'd put it down to stubbornness.

Yes,i agree. And you're more than likely right about the latter aswell.

loved the comment about being denied entry due to not immediately understanding the "robotic entry system", im imagining a League of Gentleman moment,"its witch craft

Loved that. The best view from post I have ever read, cheered me up no end.

"... the robotic entrance system and is rejected. Spoke to police, they agreed we were sober. £92 of tickets denied without justification."

Hahaha must be like walking onto the set of Tomorrow's World every time the thick Dingle twats come to Sheffield.

I watched one of them who looked like carrot top get dragged out after they scored for stepping over the advertising hoardings and goading the home fans

He got about a step over and didnt even get his arms up from his side before he was pounced on by about 8 stewards who dragged him straight out

Laughed my arse off

Surprised they didnt bring more guess there was about 2500 tops

If we had won 3-0 Barnsley would have had no complaints but without a goal scorer we can't win 1-0.

Simple as that.

The fans and board both had a fit of panic . The board / Wilson did not have a standby / replacement for Mr Evans that season. Mr Wilson got the blame , back lash . The board thought the Chris Morgan affect would get us up . It failed miserably and we have been giving him a staff job ever since. Wilson is a league 1 manager , we are in league 1. Mr Wilson is no where near , as good as Mr Clough .

Let us hope the same situation does not happen to Mr Clough. He is swimming against the tide , but so are all us supporters.

Mr Clough will sort it , but has to start using his man management skill more , in relation to young Mc Nuts . Also he needs to give Mr Clough brother a kick up the arse.

How is Clough swimming against the tide? He had a budget to work with and has frittered it, and is now refusing to budge from a system and formation that was only ever a makeshift expedient.
