Here is the photo the right way up.....

Clearly from the fifties, I can recognise Fred Furniss, Ted Burgin, Joe Shaw, Alf Ringstead and Jimmy Hagan.

Terrific little player .

The understanding between him and Sir Jimmy was very similar to that between Woody and TC which led to them both being prolific goal scorers , particularly for the position they played in .

Ringstead hadn't got Woody's powerful shot, but he knew how to score headers.

In 1989 Denis Clareborough chose Ringstead ahead of Woody in his best X1 he has seen since the 1930s. I asked him if he really thought Ringstead was better than Woody. He said "Woody was a very good player but felt Ringstead was more "determined"

When I first read that it came as a big surprise but on reflection , I can understand his point .

I'd still go for Woody , but it's a close call .
