Radio 5 this morning

Robbie Savage had us down for relegation on their preview show.

As did Henry Winter..

Paul Scholes has us stopping up. (Didn’t say if he’s had a bet on it though)
winter is a dick.. savage likewise.. scholes was world class .. i wonder who i should believe?? :D

It’s obvious everyone will say we are doomed to go down, why wouldn’t they
It’s up to us the team and fans to prove everyone wrong
Last year the general opinion was we would finish 12th and Norwich 15th
Going to be a long hard season, but equally massively exciting, lots of highs and lows but better than playing Scunthorpe and Gillingham

Indeed, but unfortunately Huw probably gets paid 10 bob for his work, Mills probably was paid 1k plus for his hour special.

Mills - like Lineker, Ashton, Danny Murphy, Shearer etc. aren't paid to be 'pundits' - they're paid to re-cycle the old staid, vanilla tripe that the media loves so well.

TBF if you spend a lifetime professionally hitting a ball with your head, its reasonable to expect some brain damage might prevail. The remarkable thing being the media editors thinking those same brain damaged pundits are then capable to use their brain to make valuable incisive comment about the game and for the public to take those views as relevant. It remains wrong to presume all such minorities suffer from the same affliction of course but perhaps its wise to check their rationality. Rather like 1 legged people in an arse kicking contest - dont expect them to win or make valid comments about the contest other then the ground is quite hard.

Lineker isn’t paid to be a pundit, he’s paid to be a presenter (and advertise crisps). Danny Murphy looks like a bat, I expect to see him on MOTD one day hanging upside down.

A nicely considered article. Perhaps Mills isn't capable of recognising above average football when he sees it? Maybe, the fact that he can string a sentence together (and sometimes not even that well), plus his status as former professional footballer, has opened doors to post-career lucrative media work? But Danny's in danger of having his comments dismissed even before they're spoken.

If he's going to offer a critique of Wilder's United then he should offer a break-down of just why they're so predictable and industrial in their approach to football? Add to which, what does it say about those managers who voted Wilder the best manager in English football? Are they too blind to recognise what Chris Wilder has built?

I had a long conversation with a widely accepted, innovative coach, in a car park in Nantwich, in December. Won't mention names, but note where the conversation took place. I have known him for years. He is a real student of the game. In the conversation I mentioned overloading the wings using centre backs and the fact Wilder was doing that. He hadnt noted it. A fact I found astounding to be honest, given his vast knowledge of the game.
The point I'm making is we are an unfashionable club in an unfashionable football city. People just don't take notice of us. The vast majority of the credit we received last year was given, shrouded in veiled indifference. I'm afraid, people will only start to really respect us and CWAK if we do well this coming season.

I'm guessing it's Mario Varadi.

Someone ought to tell Mills that Bassett & Warnock left years ago, Christ if you put his brain in a pigeon it would fly backwards. I have never read such claptrap people wonder why I don't watch MoD 1st jug ears, then Mogadon Shearer and Ian "I would have done it this way" Wright I'll just leave it to CWAK and team to talk for us.

"speaks clearly, and looks good"

I can do both of those, but i know naff about the game. Danny Mills scored 33% on that.

Jamie o hara on SSN last night about 2145 ish was very complimentary about us. Loves our style of play , says teams will be in for a shock against us and see us as the surprise package for next season.

Wilder has said that he'll stick to his style of play.

He's also said that they may have to modify it against some teams in the Prem.

I suspect that how we fare on Saturday will have a big influence on the tactics we employ this season. If - heaven forbid - we go three down in the first 15 minutes, we can kiss our overlapping centre backs goodbye.

yah seen that alright, tipped us to stay up and says we will definitely surprise a few , wasn't sure who he was ,

The level of punditry in the most prominent programs is dire. I'm glad this was called out.

The shame is that there are plenty of knowledgeable journalists out there such as Huw Davies. The problem is that pundits are often picked because they're ex pros, usually former internationals, who played well 10 years ago but never really paid attention to the nuances of the game, they were just good in their particular position.

Now they're being asked for their opinions and have nothing much to say beyond either the blindingly obvious or lazy stereotypes, because they dont have enough love or interest in the game to actually do their own research.

It's like asking an actor to comment on screenwriting or direction. Their skill in playing a particular part doesnt mean they understand how the structure of the whole story was created and put together.

Good article. Wonder if Mills will get to read it

I think he'll do his due diligence, absorb the content of the article and make an informed judgement that the author stated he was spot on with his assessment of our style of play.

Kammy doesn't say much but his match commentary is 2nd to none, Jeff Stelling let's go to Kammy for an update on that goal, there's been a goal Jeff damn never saw it, quality.
