Over on Porktalk...

League one suffering its usual problem of nobody wanting to win the bloody thing.

United will probably enjoy a few early wins next season on the promotion bounce, but without a big upgrade in the squad they're going to struggle mightily. They have taken a leaf out of our book in getting out of league one, but remember the season after we went up we only stayed up by the skin of our teeth, with a squad absolutely miles ahead of what they have now.

Since then, the championship has gotten even harder: more money is spent, the quality of players has improved and every game is brutally tough - there are no free pass games like Bury or Chesterfield at home, every team can and will beat you. I'd say the Wigan squad that went up last season is considerably better than theirs, and they look like dropping straight back down into the pub league. Piggies getting very prematurely carried away.

Meanwhile, not a single reference to Barnsley nor Burton; both of whom I think we have similar levels of ability to. Funny that.

Oh, and that squad of galacticos that got them promoted and is incredibly better than ours...

Delusional.

Yards, Mr Roygiv? We work in metres here. Can't be bottomed to wait this out.
Fleck was 100ths of seconds behind the winner who, based on one game, was Lafferty.
But football measurements are in yards:p

vast chasm ,,, what vast chasm
how many of last seasons promoted teams are in the bottom 3

are you seriously saying Preston went up with a better team than we have now
theyre doing ok

know its a big jump to the prem
but to pretend its similar in league one to championship is sheffield wednesday fan led in the hope we get scared

lets face it that pile of pretentious shit have managed to stay up
is there any blade fan who thinks wednesday can do it and we cant

the day we succumb to garbage like that is the day to stop trying

(Ex) Head of Football Trading from one of the big bookmakers has SUFC as being better than more than half the Championship based on his ratings.

Most would be happy with avoiding relegation if/when we get promoted and then building from there. I certainly think that with CW in charge we can build a squad on a much smaller budget than a number of teams that within 3/4 years can challenge for promotion. It could obviously happen much quicker but that is the exceptional case, you never know though.

The grunters may have spent a fair few shillings but they lack one thing, a good manager! Something we certainly possess. Oh and they lack another thing, class. The fucking tramps.

You'd think so, but I'd bet a shiny sixpence a few on here wouldn't.

the only 6 clubs that have got relegated straight back down in the past 10 years are all massive clubs

southend
scunthorpe
doncaster
yeovil
mk dons
peterborough

you can how this massive gulf theory started

This number could increase by 25% at the end of this season as both Wigan and Burton are far from safe.
But:
We have NEVER been promoted out of this league and gone straight back down.

well only wigans in the bottom 3 and rotherham and blackburn are pushing hard to get into league one
wigan are only a point off survival so all 3 again could be safe

That Porktalk thread is hilarious...If we go up,I would be confident of a top half finish..the standard of the Championship is not that great from the games I've seen, and the ineptitude of teams below Wendy, for the second season running aren't good enough to put a decent run of results together to catch them, and are handing it to them on a plate.
Wendy struggled when they went up until the investment, but let's be right, they went up with a team of Hoofers and had to change style..we play Football as do Barnsley, which helps...plus we'd sign a few players to improve on what we've got...I'd not be worried.
Just got to get the job done and over the line first though.

Theyre just bothered that they won't be able to say we're in a 'tin pot league' anymore so this is they're next strap line to make them feel good about themselves!

Looking at that squad it's ridiculous they beat us to promotion that year. Anybody thinking it's better than the one we've got now is clearly in cloud cuckoo land

Love to know what leaf we've taken out of their book too. Bolton have based their entire style on them that season but you couldn't get a more different side than ours to that one they went up with

I'll be chuffed if we finally get out of this league. Haven't got a clue how we will or would perform in the Championship, to many unknowns, we haven't played a Championship side this year to have any idea. Watched loads of Championship games and there are some very good sides in it. We have no clue to how much our owners will invest, or the quality of players we can attract at that level bearing in mind the clamp down on transfer fees and wages by KM avoiding an instant return to the 3rd tier will do for me everything else would be a bonus

I wouldn't take any notice of a daft piggy, unless it was an experts view on shit, wallowing in it or trotting about in it.

They will say all sorts to settle their own nervous minds. Same as attendances, they become urban myths repeated between themselves until they can claim it's true and feel a whole lot better.
Fact is, they were mega rich....then they were gonna buy Jordan Rhodes, blah blah blah...they were gonna walk the league....Carlos had a dream...fucking vomit!.....lost PO final

This year...lost £30m, spent more money.....eventually get Rhodes on loan....darent guess the wages they are paying, but bet it's in excess of £20m a season...but guess what they are even more shit than last season!! Be lucky to make the play offs!

Wouldn't you be a little worried your rich benefactor was gonna lose interest and cut losses just like all the other rich owner s who failed?...(forest, Ipswich to name just two) while at the same time having had some bragging rights over your closest rivals for five years (for the first time in some lifetime supporting the club I may add) that same side is looking like it's flying, on a crest of a wave, with a good manager playing superb football....and with a long standing and stable owner at the helm.
They are shit scared we go up....beat them and finish above them. And do it on a sensible budget just to stick the boot in.
But it's comin.....

Two of the worst games of football I've seen this season were The pigs at Wigan and The pigs at Brighton.

We would have competed easily with our current team in both those games.

If Championship teams are so strong, you would expect them to perform much better in League 1 following relegation.

Average finishing position is 11th over a six year period.

One of the main reasons the pigs are so delusional is on my radio at the moment. It's the nightly 'Carlos Carvalhal Hour' (used to be called Football Heaven). Just about every call is a study in self-promotion for the pigs (yes, yes, 'if fans of other clubs don't ring in what can we do?'). Blades fans have given up ringing in just as they've given up on The Stir. A pig has just been on 'looking forward to next season when the owls wll be getting 30k+ crowds to shut United up.' Did anybody at RS point out that it's almost 50 years (1968) since the pigs averaged over 30k? Of course not. Earlier another pig was going on about the 'massive strides' the pigs have made in the last few years and 'does anybody remember a few years ago when the owls nearly went bust?' Again, nobody at RS pointed out that, but for the criminal Co-op conveniently 'forgetting' a £20m loan to the equally-criminal Mandaric, the pigs would, hopefully, be no more?

This squad is more than capable of being comfortable (with Chris Wilder - that is a MUST have for for our future) and my money will be on us pushing into the top 6. Wendy fans getting restless naturally. Would we swap Billy Sharp for the £10 million rated Jordan Rhodes? I know I wouldn't.
Loads-a-money on players does not translate into a winning combination as of right and Wendy are an excellent example of that simple football fact.

Some ridiculous shouts on here.

We'll finish middle of the bottom half if we get up. IF WE GET UP.
i'm not so sure. teams that run away with the league tend to hold up pretty well. plus. teams will come out at us for a change and this will help us as currently nearly every game the oppo parks the bus from the first minute

Apart from 4 or 5 teams that have financial clout the rest will be much of a muchness so we should be fine. The biggest difference will be that there are no easy games which you can't really say about league one.

teams have been playing rotherham , havent they

I expect our momentum to account for enough points to stay up .dependant on additions will be whether we finish mid table or get to compete

lets face it we surely couldnt waste as much money as the oinkers have

Southampton, Bournemouth, Swansea, Brighton, barnsley, Huddersfield, wolves, Preston, brentford, Burton, Leeds, and indeed the pigs. Off the top of my head. OK not all nailed on to be above league 1 next season, but all in league 1 in recent ish memory - without failing in the premier league 2.

A pig associate of mine was spouting this crap at me just this week. It's utter tosh.

But there is a far more important question being asked on Porktalk.

Are Sheffield Wednesday the most important football club in the world.

What we have now is an intelligent, clearly motivational manager and staff around him. similar to Warnock and Harry, and dare I say Eddie Howe? That counts for more than anything else in any league. I believe we are nailed on for promotion this year. We dominated Scunthorpe, wore down Bolton and are probably playing the best football we have in years. The Championship holds no fears for me with CW and co at the helm. Just good times ahead. Yes, there will be difficult periods, but we are confident CW will sort it, as and when. I just hope we become more ruthless in the last third, the amount of chances we create!!!!! And tighten the defence a little, all will be good. No fear we might be looking at top 6 again next year.
