One rule for the big six. How has VAR allowed their first goal!! Blatant referee gets in the way. Can't wait to see what the MOTD pundits say

We shouldn't have kicked off after that goal, all stood in the 18 yard box and make the ref make a decision.

Fuck off into that home you

Bless you fellow Blade. Your behaviour is somewhat embarrassing but you are a Blade so best wishes in the New Year. Weren't you following the game? Very good performance.

This is a quality thread by the way.

I was following the game you cretin. Hence why I’m so pissed off with VAR and your attitude towards it. Fuck off.

The core principles of VAR were reiterated. These are minimum interference for maximum benefit, maintaining the pace and tempo of Premier League football and correcting clear and obvious on-field errors.

I'll let you be the judge of if it's a myth or missold...

Each goal is reviewed, on review they think it is clearly and obviously offside, even though it is close and would have been allowed last year.

So they disallow it

If VAR is here to stay then the offside law will have to change and give the advantage to the defender again. It is no longer possible to be 'level'. As no two human silhouettes are identical, the attacker will always have toenail, nasal hair or genital wart beyond the line.

I have to play keeper to keep my warts onside

The laws only state that it is a dropped ball if the ball hits the ref. It didn't today, he just completely man marked our player out of the game.

Utterly shit for us, but probably correct according to the laws.

Now, would he have stopped it had we scored from a similar situation...? That is the bit that bugs me, because I suspect the answer would be yes.

Let's put our own house in order before bemoaning our bad luck again. If Mousset isn't scared of getting kicked in the face for his header then uses his left foot in the one on one we get a different result. I abhor VAR as much as the next person but it's the same end result for all teams. Disappointing end result but thought we gave it a real go and played to a plan that nearly worked.

I'm very happy to say I'm a fan of VAR for offsides. Offside is a yes/no call based on trigonometry. You can be four yards offside. You can be four mm offside. You are offside. The technology works it out for you. I know there's a dick swinging contest to prove who is the Biggest Celebrator & it's being ruined. But, I'm outside that game.....
Pukki ... Offside there ... I'd be appalled if he'd scored that against us & it was allowed.
I'm sorry but it's not based on trigonometry. It's based on anatomy.
You think he's offside because his line is in front of the defenders line and that means it's cut and dried. But it's not.

The question is, how do you decide where his chest ends and his arm begins? Or any body part for that matter?
When it comes down to a matter of mm, the var official can literally subjectively decide to award the goal or not based on where they place the vertical line. It's subjectivity masquerading as objectivity.

A linesmans eye can get it wrong, but if he does he'll be wrong by a tiny margin that likely made no difference and gave the player no advantage anyway.

Flecky not hit that from our half???

Look at the shape of the fucking ball in that photo man. How the fuck can they tell when he’s kicked that.

I’m genuinely on the edge of not being interested in going to the games any more. It’s not enjoyable and I can’t even celebrate when we score. I’m actually really looking forward to the Fylde game because it might actually be enjoyable.

Best season in many lifetimes and yet we are talking about VAR. There is something wrong. Every team is complaining about VAR. WILL ANYONE AT THE PREMIER LEAGUE LISTEN.

I think it’s more than a conspiracy theory. It’s too clear and obvious for that. Looks as though we’ve swapped bent referees for bent VAR operatives?

Happy tonight?

If yes your thinking horseshit.

Some great posts on this thread and probably put into context all the incidents in today's games.

There is work to be done on the offside rule and that's generally accepted but I do have a feeling that defenders are a bit exposed by the current rule which is far more generous than the previous rule it replaced - previously the forward was offside if level and that means the controversial armpits and toenails are actually a body and a bit beyond where they previously were allowed. The game was great before and after the rule change and it made the games more open.

The Liverpool incidents were well handled and correct and so were ours.

Yes I am happy and proud but a little disappointed that we didn't score today, like we deserved to.

If I remember correctly - the original spec for VAR and offside didn't include 'tiny margins' but clear and obvious error such as one where a forward is so far 'off' that the lino hasn't even got him in his line of sight.
