When I was a lad you were offside if you were level with the defender and there was no messing about with all these phases of play nonsense. If one player was offside the goal didn't stand unless they were seriously not interfering with play. As a centre half I really liked the old rules! Not great for the spectators mind!

A game week of laughable offsides decisions, whereby the naked eye wouldn’t disallow and had to have poorly drawn lines on the pitch not quite accounting for the angles of the camera to the pitch, and the frame rate of when the ball actually left the passer’s foot - of course we had to get in on the act.

VAR is absolute rubbish.....but there's an easy fix if the powers that be insist upon it.

Let it start and end with the referee.

If he and the linesman have given a decision, whistles gone, its made and the game continues. If he's not sure about something, he draws the square in the air and asks to check something. Then and only then does the VAR bunker or whatever the hell it is gets involved, not the other way round.

They should be looking for reasons TO award goals, not reasons to chalk them off because funnily enough, we dont like forking out to watch 0-0 draws

I can see next season ( when every team has had time to reflect) teams playing the game differently with tactics that take VAR into account. It’ll be a different game to the one played in the leagues below. Almost a different code, like league & union in rugby.

Of course it’s an improvement. But taking the 3 examples from yesterday, that’s not what VAR is for. It’s impossible to tell on any of them due to the frame rate of the camera. So VAR should not be getting involved unless it’s making an accurate decision. Its overturning goals for the sake of it.

You wouldn’t expect the linesman to flag for that so why should you expect the VAR to overturn it when they can’t tell either.

Players have got to ignore the whistle these days and play on, sticking the ball in the net or fouling a defender so it can go to VAR.

The game has fuck all to do with the ref these days, ignore the twat.
