VAR light

I don't blame VAR or the Tech, just the numpties using it, from the ghost goal at Villa, if linesmen still inpect nets before kick off, shouldn’t the ball crossing the line & refs watch be checked at the same time?
VAR this weekend, City at Liverpool, the no foul/pen with Foden and Milner, and Milner and the no foul/ No second yellow for his foul in the second half, to the Watford goal at Leeds being ruled out, all clear and obvious via replays, both cases refs not instructed to check the screen, in fact Merson on skysports made a joke, said if tge ref did check the screen he would see a picture of Mike Dean ( the fourth official) so wouldn't change his mind

Or , why not let the linesman do his/ her job. Of late God knows why they are there or what they get paid for, they wait to see which way the ref gives a throwing before pointing their flag, they never Flag for fowls although it's under their nose, I.E Baldock against Hull. I think the only job they do is check the ball is in the quadrant at a corner and then they let themselves get the piss taken out of themselves. Just bring back if there's daylight between defender and attacker, it's off. Yep you would still get some wrong decisions but so does VAR. Get the lino's doing their jobs the Rodney gets.

The referees and linesmen are shite in English football, from the Prem all the way down the leagues. But that starts at the top and the way that they run the game.

However, despite the failings to get some decisions correct all the time, i think the game is far better in the Championship without VAR. The game flows better, players are certainly better disciplined and don't crowd the referee in the same way. There is an argument that VAR may pick up more clear and obvious errors, but to be perfectly honest, seeing our games only, its been much much more enjoyable to watch without VAR. Its not necessary and it doesn't work in the English game.

I couldn't read that entire article as it was behind a paywall. But has the Premier League or FA done any sort of study into whether VAR has actually benefitted the game? In my view its ruined it completely to the point that I'm less likely to watch Premier League games now

Teams like Hull would perhaps like it with their time wasting and shitehousing

If there has to be a 4th official then use them. Issue would be who chooses which replay and angle to show.

The English Football League and Women's Super League have held talks about introducing a light version of a video assistant referee system to help improve decision making.

Discussions have taken place with the game's professional referee's body, PGMOL, about a low-cost model which would work in the Championship and WSL with fewer cameras and no offside lines.

No timescale has been agreed on when the VAR system would be introduced, but not before the 2023-24 season.

I disagree that it in itself is crap. The rules and way it is being used is crap. The 'light' part IE no offside is right to be dropped. Greater use of after the match punishment would also help.

When did you last see a ball "in the quadrant" for a corner?

The nearest you get these days is a very small part of the ball overhanging the outside curve of the quadrant

Which is legal
But is one of those ridiculous rules that are poorly worded and needs re-writing. It simply needs to say that the part of the ball that is touching the floor should be in the quadrant

It's crap because it just doesn't suit football

But then your rewriting rules around how the ball is classed as over a line. It's either over a line or it isn't, regardless as to whether it's touching the floor.

Why? It's evident it's crap. Players don't want it and fans (in the ground at least) don't want it. The bollocks about millions of pounds resting on referees decisions doesn't wash for the EFL either.
normally id agree but it was used quite well at euros, so i think it could be the referees being over pedantic or weak willed

getting rid of lines for offside ive always been a big avocade of. because whatever the offside rules are. how it was sold to us was stopping obvious errors & people being 0.5mm offside isnt obvious & also isn't gaining advantage. they wouldve still scored & you could put them 3m further back

Bristol City beating Middlesboro
Birmingham beating Stoke

Blades beating Swans

Either the offside is automatic like Hawkeye (usually!) telling the referee when the ball is over the line straight away, or you get rid of the lines and the referee (or video ref) decides based on whether he thinks it's obvious or not from the replay
