Some fans didn't even give Clough a year on a modest budget. That's life at a "big club" like ours.

Edit: Clearly i need to expand on my OP. Yesterday the Mancs manager said his "process" would likely take 3 years to rebuild his squad. My sarcasm was intended to emphasize how little time some fans g ave our own manager to rebuild our squad. My irony was to suggest that ours was " big club pressure" compared to the Mancs. Hey ho, my mistakes.

Wtf,why do some persist with strange examples.Manure are in a completely different league to ours. There is no doubt we SHOULD be the top dogs in our league whereas Manure are nowhere near atm and won't be while ever they're chopping and changing too much, does that remind you of anybody:D

Precisely. A rebuild is a rebuild even if it's Hallam FC. And don't forget how low we were a year ago.

When you say "some fans", my hunch would be that there would have been about 3 people who've called for his head.

If you're talking about message board criticism, then I'd guess that started after about 2 weeks, much the same as it does at every football club.

What does this word 'rebuild' mean in your language WF? If a team finishing 7th last season needs to 'rebuild' then surely everyone does? The only time this process is mildly relevant in football is for newly relegated sides. We are not in a 'rebuild' era, we are in a stagnation period. Completely different things.

Man Utd/Sufc comparison's end at both need to be successful this( and every year)

Van Gaal, is getting his excuses in for failure nice and early...Clough's still got time to be successful this season...

I see what you mean, Clough's had to make a lot of changes since he came in last year. We've got to give him this year and next year at least to get the job done. I think his plan will pay off this year with the amount of depth we have in the squad although losing Higdon will probably hurt us until he starts playing McNulty or finds a suitable replacement.

I'm reliably informed it's still all but verboten on Forest message boards to criticise Stuart Pearce. But in case they were in any doubt - he's crap. :)

I assume the OP is about Clough snr?

I think that's because Pearce knows where they all live....

Never understood the psycho thing with pearce he looks like a train spotter ,sounds like one too

Bradders used to have his best games against him and kick him up and down the park

If we gave Clough 300 million over 3 years I'd expect us to be fighting for the premiership title! Van gaal is a fool, any team could win the leauge with these demands!
On the blades side of your comment, we should have highest expectations/ buying power with the crowds we bring in each week, so yes people are not wrong in thinking we should be better off then middle of the table.

If you have some strikers on the pitch it helps. Although you can't compare Man Utd to us.

I'm sorry no one is asking for the managers head here. Clough has 99 percent of the fans on his side but people have the right to question him when we don't win. This happens with any manager anywhere.

Nobody is comparing Man Utd to us. It's the point that a manager with better players, limitless amounts of money and as one of the most successful experienced managers in the world, says it can take time ,up to 3 years to rebuild a squad.

If you gave Clough £3m he still wouldn't buy a bloody striker

OK, if we were to compare Van Gaal with Clough, and I can't think why, which manager has got his priorities right.

One has spent extravagantly and yet bought only one defender. The other has spent nothing, according to many on here, and has lifted his club from the lower reaches of league 1, with two big cup runs thrown in. I was going to write "has bought no strikers" but he has signed three in fact, including Porter.

The single point of the OP was to point out a rebuild takes time with a massive budget, never mind without one. If anybody thinks Clough didn't have to rebuild in the fullest sense of the word, then I'm gobsmacked.

Because of last season's progress we all got overexcited about this season. The reality is that we have moved a long way forward under Clough, but not yet far enough.

Should he sign a talisman striker, of course, but I think he believes Higdon is that man, given a good run of fitness.

Have we moved a long way under Clough? I hope so, I really like the bloke but unless we get promoted this season then we haven't moved on at all.

Unfortunately at the moment we still look very much a work in progress, bit dodgy at the back, no game changers on the bench, and a criminal lack of goal options even at this level. Our squad isn't that great for this division, God alone knows how we'd fare if we got promoted, especially with the lack of investment that would go with it.

The big difference between Man U and us is that they'll splash the cash to be successful, we won't. They have ambitions and expectations, we have McCabe and the nebulous Prince. Pretty sad for a big city club with an excellent set of fans but that's the life of a Blade. There was a time in the 70's when I thought we were on the verge of something, then we sold good players, built the south stand and it's been shit sticks most of the time since.

The OP was a silly one truth be told, trying to compare polar opposites is really no comparison at all.

In actual fact we have only let 2 goals in during our last 6 games.

OP was only silly if you misread it, but there we go.

Good post but it confuses me when you talk of recollecting the 70's when your profile says you're 24 years old. Forgive me for looking at your profile but your pseudonym is one letter different from my son's name and I thought it was a wind up, as he's done it before. and got me hook line and sinker.

We wouldn't have finished 7th if Clough hadn't come in and started the rebuild process. We're about a year into it, and further forward than we were last season, that's progression whether you like it or not. The squad and team are stronger than last year, that's also progression, and we know we're shy of a forward which with put us further forward.
There is clear progression and improvement, if you chose to see it or not is another matter and entirely subjective.

It would be a better comparison if van gaal refused to sign messi as he didnt think he was worth the money
and then kept rooney van persie and falcao on the bench with juan mata up front
Who are we saying would be the league one Messi that Clough has rejected?

What progression and improvement has been since the end of last season?
