If that's the way you think the club is run its 100 percent different to my feelings. That just isn't JP's style.

Agree with you . The board or JP are not daft enough to meddle in team affairs . Theses days they are too structured and professional for that . We are not a Leeds Utd set up. No doubt they will have regular dialogue with Clough , but telling him or advising him on players , i would have thought is way off the mark. Theres already enough pressure on Clough as it is.

I haven't heard the interview, but it's very very easy to tell when Nigel Clough is lying through his teeth

Do you watch a different team and just show up on our forum? How many games have we not scored in Recently? I count one.

I didn't mean literally no goals I mean enough goals to win a game, the fact we managed just one goal against Bradford wasn't enough to win and the obvious no goals against that relegated team. We need a settled strike force if we expect to go up and he needs to be a part of it. We can't keep bringing players in and out of the team and expect them to be world beaters.

I can't understand the situation with Done the lad looked awesome in training yesterday stood out a mile IMO the fact we aren't scoring is mainly due to the fact he isn't playing. If that's him not fully fit I'd like to see what he trains like fully fit as he puts the others to shame.
Was James Wallace at training?

ran about 50 miles against Donny.. yet he is injured.. hmm
perhaps he strained himself getting on the naughty step

What do you think he might be lying about in this interview? What do you think he's lied about before?

"NC says Neill Collins would become an option for the play-offs when he returns from Port Vale"

He will be an option. So is Harrison McGahey. So is Ben Whiteman.
It doesn't mean they will start when there are other players are ahead of them.
We conceded 11 goals in Collins last 4 league matches. We haven't conceded more than 2 goals in a match since.
If Clough and Collins fell out it was primarily because Collins wasn't doing the business on the pitch.

As Sothall_Blade asks above, when, and how often, do you think Clough has lied before? Could you please share this talent for identifying when Clough 'lies' through his teeth?

You obviously think that Clough lies regularly, so for the sake of clarification, how often has NC lied this month, or, if this month has been the exception to the rule, the previous month will do. Can't wait to read your reply.

Haha, that's a joke right? It's Collins, not Cannavaro! Aside from that, the day a manager gets told to pick someone or get sacked is the day he should walk out.

It wont be a case of Phipps telling NC to pick Collins or he is sacked but it could be a case of Phipps saying if we don't go up you are getting sacked.....and if that means picking Collins at centre-half for the play-offs, (providing we don't fuck it up in the last 2 games) then bloody well do it!

Does it matter? Lying is a part of management and a part of life. Everyone lies.

You think that it doesn't matter? Context is key to this question, so when and to whom can be the difference as to whether it's acceptable. But if you're suggesting that it's ok to lie about any and everything, as in it doesn't matter, then I'd hate to live in your universe. If you're married and your wife has lied, as in not telling you she's ached to wrap her thighs around your best mate and has done so regularly, then I guess, by the criteria you've described, you won't have a problem with this?

Sometimes, being economical with the truth (another way of not being truthful) is necessary. I just happen to prefer a truth, no matter how lacking in social niceties (why do you think I keep returning to the forum? ;)). So yes, I would rather be told the truth but appreciate there are moments when Clough might feel it's inappropriate to reveal something. If NC is on the verge of signing a much rated player, it's in United's best interest to maintain that we're not looking to sign anyone in case it alerts other interested clubs.

The context is the situation with Collins. Whatever has happened to cause this big ruck is remaining in house and that is probably how it should be. Therefore, I think it's reasonable for Clough to make up some guff about it. The same can be said about a lot that happens in a football club.

Just because we're supporters we don't have a right to know everything that goes on behind the scenes, the details of players' private lives.

Here's a bit of context; there is nothing my club can lie about that has anything like the significance of a wife having an affair.

Which would be fine, but you did expand this to mention life? Which, if I'm right, is a pretty broad canvas?

As for your other points, I agree, there's a time a place, and then there's no place at all.

I think they'll have said to him that the playoffs is the minimum expectation. Next season (if we don't go up), it'll be promotion as the minimum expectation.

If we get to the playoff final and get done by a worldie in the last minute (where have I seen that before) I wouldn't want him sacked. If we collapse now and fail to make it to the playoffs, I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it's not good enough.

Collins playing has little to do with whether we go up in my opinion. He's simply not that good.

He is good enough to release Brayford back to his strongest position, and when we get going forward, there is less to defend.

Collins may then look good enough, for this division.

I thought someone might say this and I see your point, but our priority is centre midfield. We have no idea who to pick there. That's where we should be dominating games because we have the players, but we're not.

From what I've seen of Brayford at right back so far, it wouldn't matter if it were him or Flynn out there.

Bring him back by all means, but I'm far more interested in whether Flynn, Done and Kennedy are going to be fit.

When I said life, I was thinking more along the lines of 'No, you look lovely' or 'Grandma's gone to live with Jesus' rather than 'No Rhodri, I haven't shagged your wife'.

If Clough and Collins fell out it was primarily because Collins wasn't doing the business on the pitch.

However, to add some balance, when Collins has started league games we have averaged 2 points per game. I believe only Kennedy can better this at CB.

NB. That was certainly the case a few weeks ago (before Kennedy got injured) when Pinchy was suggesting TK was only wanted at CB for Bladey Bladeness reasons and I decided to do some analysis.

We've all responded to circumstances that required a certain economy of truth, that's unavoidable. But back to the OP's description of Clough 'lying through his teeth'. Don't know about you, but that type of character description paints a picture of Clough as a less than savoury individual. I've no idea what type of character Clough is, but neither does the OP, so rather than cast a dark shadow over NC, insinuating that NC lies regularly, it would have been more helpful to use language that wasn't so accusative.

As for Rhodri and his bint, they sound like they're headed for the first of many meetings with Relate.

I'd rather see Basham pushed forward into centre midfield

Way out of date now, but I had a look at our central defenders in mid December: http://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/comparing-our-central-defenders.37323/

Collins mythical season long injury. Andy Butler leaving down to not being good enough. Harry Maguire left out for sunstroke believe it or not.

I don't know what the past month or 2 has to do with anything.

Eagerly anticipating your response and explanation on how these were not lies

So he was or wasn't injured all season?

I think Clough put some political spin on this one , and a bit economical with the truth . Just goes to show this CB issue is a real problem . Putting too much hope on Collins , who ain't that good , but the best fit player we have got , for that position.

I agree he's no world beater, but we need him back

Typing on phone, so I will be fairly brief.

Collins was only injured for part of the season. Cough made it clear he wasn't picking him initially because he had been dropped due to poor form and heavy defeats.

Maguire told Clough he had sunstroke. As I recall it, Clough relayed what he'd been told in a sarcastic tone. Maguire lying, not Clough.

I could rely on Sothall_Blade's post to explain the whys and wherefores, but I'll just flesh this out a little so that there's no misunderstanding. The 'telling lies through his teeth' line was always going to be an inflammatory comment, but I'm sure you knew that.

Don't know about you, but I'm weary of returning to news that is quite simply tired at best, and unproven at worst. By referring to lies you must have proof, but all I'm reading is another repeated echo from a past that neither knows, or can categorically substantiate, that Clough lies through his teeth, as in being someone who lies regularly. It's nasty and pernicious, but I doubt you share that opinion.
