Updates From Adkins

No I'm not. The only person I've got on ignore is Caseh, and that's it.

I had a brief spell with Tyler and Pete on there but they post too much and so it messes up the reading of the forum.

Oh good.

Perhaps you'll answer my question from a few days ago then. The one where I asked you what you would have done with regard reshaping the team. You went all quiet on that one.

Because it wasn't realistic. And you knew it wasn't.

Freeman is a good shoe in for both full back positions - He is also good to have on the bench as he can also be an effective right sided midfielder (He changed the game v Coventry last season from that position) yet he has been frozen out by Mr Adkins.
As stated before in this thread I can think of several players I would jettison before Freeman - but then again Mr Adkins brought in Woolford, Sammon and Hammond ! What do I know !!!

If you go into Starbucks for a coffee do you have the right to know how much the manager takes home each month? Same principle.

If I went to Starbucks and they got rid of their best coffee machines and brought in shit ones, I'd want to know why, and if there was a customer satisfaction-based strategy to ensure upward trajectory. If they'd sold them to service debt or to lay new floor tiles I'd be wanting to know why. If not, I'd go to Costa.

I'm assuming you'd want customer (or 'stakeholder') loyalty to remain with Sheffield United here, based upon prior mission statements issued by the 'company' to ensure 'stakeholder' alliance?

Same principle.

It will be when Brayford gets injured and there is no right back as cover.

Oh wait, the majestic Flynn can play there.

To be fair to Flynn he has always looked very decent at RB, in my opinion.

I take your point about Freeman though, much worse players in this squad and it would be a gamble, but the problem is who would want them? Whilst we are burdened with such a bloated squad we will have to accept that a few decent players will be out of the door in front of the rammel.

Can we have a voting button for this one please?

He won't respond. His stock anser/get out is that 'it's not realistic'.

Is anything on here? It's a fucking forum. Nothing what we do or say will affect the club's running. I am just (genuinely) interested in what he'd do as the big footballing brain being as he thinks Adkins has wasted opprtunities to sign the right players. I have yet to hear who he'd have signed in August or who he believes would be definitive additions to the squad.

But, y'know. We can only wish for his wisdom to be bestowed upon us.

I'd play Flynn at RB. He is a bit lightweight for the role, but if Beardy was suspended/rested/injured, Flynny can do the job adequately.

Buit that's not 'realistic' is it.

But isn't this exactly why we remain wallowing in the lower reaches of the league?

It's time we stopped sending decent players out of the door and then puzzling over why we continue to be shit.
It may sound crazy but how about shipping out the dross and keeping our better players?

Ok, since you're having a little cry about it, I'll go ahead and give you my assessment of who I'd have gone for in the summer. As was blindingly obvious (and still is) CB was the top priority (definitely not treated as such by Adkins). I'd have had a look at Tom Eastman (Colchester), Nathan Cameron (Bury) and Ricardo Santos (Peterborough). Connor Goldson could have been a realistic option if we'd have acted with any urgency. I'd have liked a look at Jason Pearce but finances could have proved an issue with that one.

Next priority was a central midfielder - Romain Sawyers, Sam Morsy and Connor Hourihane should have been up there with the one's we ought to have been taking a serious look at. All possess the box to box qualities we've been wanting. Dan Bentley at Southend would have been another one to focus on. Great handling and an excellent shot stopper. Dominic Solanke looks a real prospect for a young striker, but any focus on forward positions should have been after the aforementioned positions had been adequately covered.

Now we're into January, there's one we 'could' be signing if the squad wasn't such an unbelievable size (made impossible to add to with the five poor signings in the summer, such is what we're finding out at the moment and the reason there's moans at a lack of activity). Kemar Roofe - another one we've been too slow to react to. He's probably out of our price range now with all the interest we've let him get.

Who did we sign in the summer that was poor?
By summer (incorrect terminology I know) was really meant to mean anything not in the JTW. I think all five signings have been mistakes. Billy Sharp isn't a poor player but I still think it was a poor signing with the amount of money we paid (£500,000 reportedly). Top scorers in this division don't need that much of a price tag, and if we had any ability in the transfer market we'd have realised that and adapted accordingly.

Yes, Flynn did a good job there and Freeman is bang average.

Oh wait, there's an opportunity missed to get pissed off over absolutely fuck all.

Oddly enough more or less all players who have had a good season to date. Did you not fancy anyone who's gone backwards since?

Ok, since you're having a little cry about it ...

See? That didn't hurt, did it?

So, all of those would be within FPP and our budget? And did we make offers for them?

I don't think there is anyone disagreeing that the areas we lacked (and still lack) need addrressing. I don't agree at all with you ref: Sharp. I think he's the best we could expect, not a world beater but I hasten to add we have no one around him who works his game well into the plan. He does tend to play one way and if the opposition suss him he is invisible. With better players around him (and if we are playing 3 up front we are talking the Adams/Sammon/Done roles/areas) I think we'd be seeing Sharp on about five more goals by now.

There's no one denying we lack bite and ambition with regard transfers in and out.

More or less all of them were suggested by myself before the season started. Oddly enough, more or less all of them are having good seasons. Quite right.

Flynn is the definition of 'bang average'.

He is the equivalent in this division to what Collins and Doyle were to us in the championship.

Mainly because you don't really have full control over the order you get rid of people due to them having contracts. If we wait until we've got rid of the shit before we get rid of anyone other clubs might want we'll be waiting until July.

Freeman wouldn't be my first choice to go either but if I'd been told I can't bring more in until some have left I'd bite the bullet and let him go because I know full well what I've got now isn't good enough and it's essential I bring players in. That's a big part of a manager's job; making difficult decisions. And any decision has the potential to blow up in your face.

Im fine with the terminology I just want to know who you mean. You mean everyone don't you?

Yes, well done, highly impressive.
Where did you suggest them btw? On here, BladesMad?

Silly question. There's absolutely no way of me knowing that.

Precisely. So you giving shit to Adkins for daft signings and your opinion of who we should have signed is a bit of a circular argument.

My argument is (and always has been) that I doubt the board's ability to fulfil their statement of intent when the Prince was gleefully anounced as a 'game changing investment'. You just think Adkins is a cunt.

Next question, managers. Who would come to United (and the key bit is 'who would come' given the recent mangerial fiascos) who you would thing may make the difference. Note, I am picking your brains here, not calling you a pig fan or a wanker.

Ok, but I am basically saying - don't sell Freeman.

He's not shit, others are. Sell them.

Let's keep our better players so we can play well.
