Regular Graphs below - Hecky v Slav 17/18 Updated Graph is in a separate thread as requested.
The loss at Millwall has probably kicked our autos dream into touch, as really that needed us to go through the season without a major slip, but who knows what Bournemouth will do? The fact that we lost yesterday to a tactic where our guys were blocked 2 to 3 metres backwards off the ball, which is only legal in the NFL, was particularly shit, although we were pretty unimpressive all over the pitch. I don't think that blocking tactic would have worked with Big Charlie in the group!
As usual, Graph 1 shows our progress against the 3 benchmark sets of results which I created to achieve 3 different objectives when Hecky took over: -
a chance of the playoffs (71 points);
almost certain playoff achievement (78 points).
almost certain automatic promotion (90 points).
After yesterday at Millwall, Graph 1 shows that we are still well on track for the playoffs. However, we're now 4 points below the autos line and we need to win 12 and draw 1 of our remaining 13 games to get to 90 points - but the longer we can stay close to the autos line the ever more likely the playoffs become.
Graph 2 compares this season with the 2 Wilder seasons (10th and 2nd) in the Championship. After 33 games we had 55 points in Wilder's 17/18 season and 64 in 18/19, so we are 2 point behind where we were in 17/18, when we tailed off to 10th, and now 11 points behind Wilder's automatic promotion season in 18/19, our second place season.
Graph 3 compares our current season with Blackwell's 08/09 (3rd) and 09/10 (8th) seasons. For these, on 53 points after 33 games, we are now 1 point ahead of 08/09 (3rd) and 5 points ahead of 09/10 (8th) after 33 games.
As long as we stay close to the "Playoffs Certain" line in Graph 1 and the 08/09 season in Graph 3 we will get to the post-season games. I think most of us felt that Hecky was over-cautious not starting Sander and MGW, but maybe that will pay off on Friday. Also, I think Davies was really buzzing from the Blackburn goal, and those feelings can carry forward.
Boro and QPR lost yesterday, which helps, but Blackburn, Udders and Luton all won - so it's going to be quite a battle between that group, and maybe Forest, Coventry and Mllwall as well. The Championship really is a great league.
