United's playoff odds slashed to 7/1...

It did for us in the sense that had we won that game and the last game of the season (when, as I mentioned above, we lost at Southampton), we would have sneaked into 6th place, so the Wednesdsay game on its own was not vital.

Mind you, in 08-09 Wednesday did the double over us and we mised out on automatic by 3points (with a better GD than 2nd placed Birmingham). Had we won one of those games....

Life's a bitch sometimes. Had some great seasons recently, most of them end with a 'if only'.

Blackies first couple, Wilsons (my favourite for a long time). Mebbe this one if we fall just short of POs again...

On 3 occasions (2004, 2005 and 2008) we have needed an unlikely set of results on the last day of the seaon to get in the play offs. Didn't happen of course.

In 1994 and 2007 it took an unlikely combination of results to relegate us....

Was 04 or 05 some sort of crazy 3-3 away draw at either Bradford or Preston?? Random flashback alert there.

A positive I suppose Darren is that at least they were all on the right side of the table, and even though we missed out, we had decent seasons, with plenty of wins (although clearly not enough!)

04 was a 3-3 draw at Preston (Jagielka, Gray 2). We had essentially messed it up the previous week by only drawing at home to close rivals Ipswich. We needed to win at Preston and hope other results went our way. As it turned out we would have got in the play offs had we won by 3 at Preston.

I think the promotion push rests squarely on the results we get against Brentford, Orient, Preston, Wolves and Rotherham. They are the current (and most likely to be final) top 5. We've only played them all once, and got 1 point out of 15 against them. So if we can pick up at least 10 points from those 5 games, we have a good chance. It's a big ask, and it would rely on us still winning the vast majority of games against teams below us, but a chance nonetheless. TBH I'll be happy with a top 10 finish this season, and a big push for the title next season.

Only one of those games is away from Bramall Lane btw - maybe that will have something to do with it ;)

Not at all. The teams you mention have effectively 'gone'. Sixth place - currently Peterbrough who could well falter and have a divisive chairman - are the target. Over a quarter of the season left, I think we can even afford the odd slip-up. The three teams directly above us - 7th, 8th & 9th have played a game more than us.

What I meant is that they are the best teams in the league, so if we can get points against them, then surely we'll get points against the other teams we're gonna be playing. I think it's possible, anyway. Get a tenner on't Blades going up. Be a nice pay out come May.

Did you really have to ask for some of those?

Let's put it this way. Who, out of that lot, won a play off with the Blades?

Yep, all Bell Ends!

Bell Ends across the land are mad with rage at being compared to Blackwell.

Just put £35 on us to make play offs with £455 return. Bet365 have us at 12/1 to make play offs which seem decent odds. Started off with £10 in my betting account a few weeks ago which has now risen considerably just by putting a tenner on us to win each game, it's also funded my £35 bet :) turning out to be a good investment that tenner is lol

Looking at that table if we keep averaging +3 goals per game, win our match in hand we'll be breathing down Peterborough's neck. After seeing them last week, I think they will drop plenty of points in the next few weeks.

It's on!

I put the bet on for us to get promoted at 17/1. So I guess we'll get the blame me if miss out...

That said, if it comes off - i'm a very happy boy... It might even pay for my flight to the FA cup final :)

IF - we do get to the play offs with NC in charge - whether it be this season or next - I have a feeling that we will break our duck, cos he knows what the fuck he is doing compared to the other bell ends we have had leading us into ignominy in the past

I believe this is the only paragraph I ever read containing both ignominy and bell end.

I was umm'ing and ahh'ing whether to bet on us going up Swiss but I reminded myself that this is united and promotion through the play offs may be pushing it a bit, so I bottled it and took the safe option! If we did make it to the fa cup final I'd do chart wheels across the channel and pick you up myself

Form Guide.JPG

13 games each left to play.
If we and Peterborough both repeat our form of the last 13 games, we will overtake them by 1 goal difference.

Our form includes 3 defeats, 3 draws and 7 wins. Impossible to repeat that? I wouldn't say so..
