Excellent work by Cannon to assist Brooks today. Haven't ever really seen him run with the ball much before this, I hope he feels encouraged to try it more often now as that would bring so much more to his game. We bucked the trend by scoring 3 in a game where he played the full 99 minutes too. Long may it continue!

In the 2171 minutes Tom Cannon has been on the pitch for us since he joined in January 2025, we've collectively scored 30 goals. That's 1 goal per 72.4 minutes.
In that same time period we have collectively conceded 31 goals (1 per 70 mins).
Blades Goal Difference with Cannon on the pitch = -1
Tom Cannon has contributed 5 goals and 2 assists in those 2171 minutes.

Anyone else surprised to see Campbell coming off the bench ahead of Cannon? After Cannon's assist v Oxford I thought he'd have edged ahead on the pecking order.

I can understand Cannon getting the nod ahead of Campbell, but ahead of O'Hare?? No justification for that.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED! GOAL DIFFERENCE WITH CANNON ON TURNS POSITIVE! 🥳

He is absolute gash. I really wanted him to come good after his goal against the pigs but, after a couple of promising games and the odd goal, he's reverted right back to type. He doesn't know how to control a ball, he doesn't know how to head a ball, he has zero positional sense, he's flimsy, he has no pace whatsoever and whenever he gets a chance to shoot, he just swings his leg hard towards the ball hoping to connect and hoping that it somehow finds its way on target. The kindest thing I can find to say about him after tonight is that he wasn't even the worst Blades player on the pitch at the end. Step forward Mr Henry Hoover. Cannon owes you a pint.

Going to turn this thread about a bit as many including me at times have been critical of Cannon especially when being played in the wrong position however today he took his go well with good composure am I saying he is worth £10million absolutely not but being played in a front 2 alongside Bamford and he scored. Looked an easy finish but still had work to be done to tuck that one away

I tjhink I get your drift, and I think I agree with you, but phones eh?

I get that you were running for a bus, but maybe a bit of punctuation next time?

Yours,

An old fart

Need the glasses haha should have said took his goal well not go. He is more like a Shaun Miller type player if we are looking at players over the last decade or so, League 1 standard in general but given the opportunity with better players around him providing service he can score the odd few goals a season.

Is he actually fit enough?
If/when he loses a challenge he just stands there looking miffed instead of showing some determination and trying to get the ball back. If he was properly fit he’d have the energy to fight back.

He just can't be bothered to do any strength work

No updates from me since March 11th - that must be around the time I lost my last shred of enthusiasm for this season. Since the seasons over now. its a good time bring things up to speed.

In the 2737 minutes Tom Cannon has been on the pitch for us since he joined in January 2025, we've collectively scored 36 goals. (1 goal per 76 minutes.)
In that same time period we have collectively conceded 40 goals (1 per 68.4 mins).
Tom Cannon has contributed 7 goals and 3 assists in those 2737 minutes. (1 goal per 391 minutes)

Our overall goal difference for this season was exactly 0. Our goal difference for the back end of the previous season since he arrived in January was +10.
Blades overall Goal Difference since Cannon arrived = +10
Blades Goal Difference when Cannon on the pitch = -4

Quite incredible to see how different our overall GD is since he arrived vs our GD from the minutes he's on the pitch, and the stats clearly point to us doing better when he's off the pitch. Don't get me wrong, he's got a cracking shot on him if you serve him the ball on a platter, but it's seldom we can create such gilt-edged opportunities and we need strikers that offer more than that.

When he has left us, I’ll remember his misses (Blackburn at home after 30 seconds) rather than his 7 goals.

Same as Brewster, he was bought as an investment but has failed to provide a return and it seems fashionable to blame Wilder and the coaching staff for that.

36 appearances, 6 goals this season. Not enough, but enough there to show that he shouldn't be totally written off as a player. He's had a disrupted start to life at United - signed for big money which brought an expectation with him that he couldn't live up to, gaffer who signed him departs, Sellesball, gaffer who signed him returns...

Next season is a real shit or get off the potty moment for him. If there's a player in there, he needs to pop out and say 'ello.

He's actually outperformed his xG this season (6 goals, 5.1xG), it's just that his other stats continue to be laughably, laughably bad. The only things he's good at are not getting dispossessed (because he never has the ball) and discipline (as he's never close enough to anyone to foul them) 😂 What's worrying is we might have just seen something like the best-case scenario season from him, unless he magically turns into an all-round footballer in his third season with us. Either that or we just accept essentially playing with ten men on the basis he'll finish the one good chance he gets every four games or so.

He’s just not the answer nor very good. All we can hope for is a decent run of goals and shifting him on for any fee.

I genuinely don't think he's bright enough to adapt his game to be anything other than what he currently is. This is him. Probably ok if you can build a functioning team around him to create space, chances and openings - his movement is actually more dynamic than any of our other current forwards. But alas, he's thick as mince too. If he had the sense to do so he'd bulk out a bit and really work on his hold up play or at least learn how to run the channels properly.

That xG stat actually tells a bigger story to me. Often if the goals aren't coming, it can just be a sign of bad luck or confidence being low when a striker isn't putting away their chances. He's got such a low xG because he doesn't even get chances. He hasn't got the knack of being in the right place at the right time, and doesn't create anything for himself. We're also quite clearly less creative as a whole when he's not there.

I'm sure West Ham will be desperate for some "Championship goalscorers". With money to burn.
