Cannon starts vs Portsmouth: Blades 2 Portsmouth 1

Cannon subbed on vs Leeds 59th minute - we're winning 1-0. Blades 0 Leeds 3
Cannon subbed on 73rd minute (we're winning 1-2) QPR 0 Blades 0
Cannon subbed on 64th minute (we're winning 1-0) Blades 0 Preston 0

Cannon subbed on 76th minute (we're losing 1-0) Oxford 0 Blades 0
Cannon subbed on 65th minute (we're losing 0-1) Blades 0 Millwall 0

In 11 appearances our form whilst Cannon is on the pitch is W2 D6 L3 our actual form in those games is W7 D0 L4
In the 443 minutes Cannon has been on the pitch we've collectively scored 4 goals. That's around 1 goal per 111 minutes.
In that same time period we have collectively conceded 9 goals. Tom Cannon himself has contributed 0 goals and 1 assist.

Basically if you see Cannon coming on, you can just walk out of the ground at that moment and you'll probably be glad you did.
"If Cannon's on - we've given up" might be an appropriate chant.
Please Chris there's got to be better on the bench than him, stop giving him game time every chuffing match!

I'm stating the obvious, I know, he's paid a lot of dosh for him so he's got to get him on the pitch somehow, same with brewster... please don't give the latter another contract😔

I’d rather have Ryan One’ coming on than Cannon.

Hope we take the hit in the summer and try and move him on for £4m ish.

I don’t want him here in August whatever league we are in.
Said that last night. Not sure what he offers that One doesn't.

Weird that we sold Osula for £11m and paid £10m for this guy. I know funding/ownership etc was different but I know which player I'd rather have.....

Cannons stats are poor but sometimes they don't tell the full story, was he what we wanted ! Doesn't create his own chances so reliant on service which has been almost none existent while on the pitch. No part of his game stands up to examination .Who do you blame for the signing if he doesn't fit? Wilder wanted him what he thought is roll would be is guesswork.! Has to be Wilder money burning a hole in his pocket again.
Wilder is a big blade! Maybe it soon will be time to bring in a coach who is not influenced so much emotionally?

I made a point of watching him once he'd come on last night - his decision making and positioning was woeful :-(
At one point on the left side of Millwall's box he made a short pass to Burrows, who was surrounded by 3 opposition players. Instead of then offering him the option of a one-two to get him near the byline, he turned his back and ran into the box to wait for a cross. Did he think Burrows was gonna take on all three players in the style of Neymar and get the cross in himself?!

It's mind-blowing the lengths some people will go to in order to find an easy scapegoat.
Give the lad a chance. He's only through the door and some are analysing stats of the full team for the exact number of minutes that he's on the pitch.
I've news for you. The game of football is a tad more complex than that.

Wtf is happening on this forum?

Wilder (who some claimed would be in a relegation dogfight this year) gets dogs abuse with some calling for him to be sacked whilst we are top of the fuckin table!!
Now we have a new young striker, struggling to settle and we've posters here counting the minutes that he's on the pitch in order to justify his status as the new player to blame (Brewster and Robbo must be delighted)

Maybe some of our "supporters" will get the season's end that their "support" deserves.

Id make no apologies for expecting more from a player we paid an eight figure sum for!! £10m isn't an insignificant sum for a Championship side.

When his output is on a par with a youth prospect (One), again, i think we're well within the realms of respectability to call it out and question what is going on....

Of course I've no issue with "expecting more" but I do have an issue with these comments (about a new young signing whose played a handful of games for us) from supposed "supporters" (all posted here recently)

I don’t want him here
he’s absolute's crap
he's wank.

Complete waste of time bringing him on, he's garbage

and the worse of all imo ...

He's currently looking like our Jordan Rhodes

Cannon has had a dreadful start - no getting away from that. Let’s hope there is more to come.

My confusion regarding yesterday was the baffling decision to go with Cannon as the lone striker with Gus Cal and JRS behind rather than Kieffer.

Maybe there is more to it than I am aware of but what I am 100% confident of is that Cannon is not a lone striker. As sure as eggs is eggs.

UTB

Wilder made the comment that Cannon was bought to I quote "play off the shoulder" so I ask who's f'in shoulder? Or does he wear an "off the shoulder number" on weekend nights out? I've heard people try to say he is "one for the future". Now logically the Geordie Billionaires can afford to pay £10 million for "one for the future" Osula but seriously can we afford to pay that amount for "one for the future" players? Are our new owners seriously expected to let Wilder loose next season, what ever division we are in, with a boat load of cash or do they mistakenly think that freebies, out of contract, loans and £2/3 mill signings are going to get us to the promised land of "established Premier League status? Rude awakening on the horizon 😤

Agree with last two posts. The good things I've seen from Cannon at other clubs have been playing off another striker.

I'd be genuinely interested in the reasons why we wanted him and were willing to pay so much by our standards at this level. So far I've not seen us play him once in a role where he did ok elsewhere.

Consequently, he's not shown enough to start regularly and looks lost when he gets on. However, due to his fee, he's going to be brought on more often than he would if he'd cost little.

Could this not have gone on your other Tom Cannon topic that's still on the first page?
No. I put quite a lot of effort into researching this post and therefore it'll be having it's own thread. I'll also be able to update the stats on this thread with each future Cannon appearance. Also we can now discuss the wider implication from the stats that when Cannon comes on not only is he very poor but the entire team's performance becomes markedly worse. I'd infer that his appearance off the bench knocks the confidence of the entire outfield XI to a degree where they turn into shadows of their former selves.

The RoysView warned us that Cannon is garbage as a lone striker but good with a partner. What does Wilder often do, play him up top alone. Surely if Stoke fans can see that then the scouts can see that, unless all they looked at was Cannon on paper and his goals to games stats.

Now now Uncle Chris knows best 🥰

This thread is pathetic.

The bad results we've had since January are fuck all to do with Cannon.

I genuinely don't understand the eagerness to write off a young lad who has only been here five minutes and barely had a chance to get going yet.
So each time he comes on..we produce next to NOTHING ..score once per 111 minutes..and it's nothing to do with Cannon. Must be pure coincidence then?

It would be something to do with Cannon if he was starting every match, having loads of chances created for him and missing them.

But he's not.

There are currently far more pressing issues with our team and the way we play. The effectiveness of Tom Cannon is way, way down the list.

Trying to scapegoat a 22 year old striker who has only been at the club for just over 2 months is pitiful.

You're purposely ignoring the fact that we score far more when he's off the pitch aren't you? Why?

Anyone with half a brain would realise that any football team will score more goals when a certain player isn't on the pitch if said player is frequently used as a second half substitute.

You could have fucking Salah and Haaland on the bench every game, if you don't bring them on until the 75th minute your team will always score more goals when they're off the pitch.

The game cannot be boiled down to numbers and statistics.

If that were the case I could reply that you're purposely ignoring the fact that we score far more goals before the 65th minute (average time that Cannon is brought on) than after the 65th minute and that stat applied before we signed him.

Give the lad a break and stop looking for an easy scapegoat for our downturn in form.

I'm looking at minutes per goal, I'd have thought that was obvious.
