I'm surprised that the club haven't tried to push the United World branding and association a little bit further really and pre-season would be a fantastic opportunity to do so.

For instance Portugal....... as the title says. Get all of the United World Umbrella clubs out there and have a United World Cup..... Okay, Barring Beerschott, we wouldn't have much competitive problems.... and to be fair I would expect us to walk away winners....

But it would be a fantastic opportunity to blood our fringe players and to taste a bit of success before a ball is kicked?.....and to look at players at each club? To see if sidewards loan moves could be made?....

Host it somewhere hot in July every year, 4 way tournament. Even rotate the host city every year.

It’d go down a storm.

I think one of the most exciting/interesting things about having ‘United World’ is getting to know our sister clubs, interacting with their fans, going on a bender with them and building an actual connection with them.

Without that, it’s just chengdu blades all over again isn’t it?

(I can’t remember if we have 3 or 4 clubs in United World. Us, chateroux, beerschott...?)

Kerala United FC in India isn't it?
That would be the one to go to.

I think it’s 5. Add in India and Saudi (?)

I think if we have a longer preseason when not in a winter world cup year or Euros ie next summer this is a really good idea 3 weeks in Portugal would be ideal for hot weather training and friendlies.

You would expect the group to organize something like that. Personally I would love it. Would be much more interesting and would create some real bonds. But I think they’re a bit scared though. Could also result in a massive fight. Our fans are no angels and English fans have a bit of a reputation after a few beers. Would probably be a nightmare for them if it all ended in violent scenes. Some years ago we had nice pre-season games in Ado Den Haag and NAC Breda for instance but it always ended in violent scenes and since then we are not allowed to play pre season games against serious opposition or they do it behind closed doors.

i like the idea & any time you win a trophy it can only be a boost of confidence. i can only find 5 teams. so it would tricker tournament, you draw 3 teams out of a hat to get a bye into the semi finals. & other 2 play off in prelim round

Quarter Final
Beerschot v Kerala

Semi Final
Al Hilal v Beerschot/Kerala
Sheffield Utd v Chateroaux

Depends purple I don’t think you’d get much animosity from our side not saying we don’t have our share of idiots but we tend to be a pretty welcoming lot unless there’s existing history between the clubs. Also given the links and cooperation between the clubs I think plenty of blades would be more than happy to share a beer with your lot watch a few training sessions and friendlies and talk football.

We’ve shared preseason locations before we had a warm weather camp at the same time and Bournemouth and then played a friendly with them abroad.

United and Beerschot fans would be at it, without doubt. While the 7 Châteauroux fans stand there wondering what they’ve attended.

Have loved my previous trips to Belgium, would be well up for this. If PurpleRain tries it on I'll nick his mayo covered frites and give him the wanker sign from a distance. That'll teach him.

Your friendly reminder that United World stole the identity of an existing club called Calicut Quartz. Changed the city they played in, their name, their shirt colours & their badge. All on the whim of Saudi Bantz. And there you have Kerala United. But. Whoop. Whoop. Play a United's World thingy.....

Fuck. That.

Come on Phil, you and the carrier bag firm will be the first arrivals at said resort tasting the local drinks.

I think 95% of the fans see it like that but it’s the 5% that usually spoils it. I really hope they try it out. I read you’re opening a hotel at your training ground. What better way to celebrate the opening than with a tournament.

We’ve had a hotel at the ground for a while purple unfortunately it’s closed at the moment which I think I’ve seen mentioned is due to a cladding issue which post the Grenfell tower fire has been discovered to be a fire hazard like many multi-storey buildings in this country. I’d imagine it’ll be an expensive little job to fix and so seems to be a low priority job which is fair enough. You’re right though it would be a good asset for hosting inter club events especially if the players stayed there also as it would give an opportunity for fans and players to mingle a bit.

I think the hotel was perfect place for new signings to land, before they found something more permanent…The bar wasn’t too shabby either.

I was chatting about this recently.

We went across to Holland in 2006 on preseason tour. Den Haag (moat in front of the away end) were our 2nd fixture. Sparta Rotterdam were the first.

We had a lot of trouble with Feyernood fans throughout the week there. We were warned Den Haag were the "Millwall of Holland," but other than racially abusing our players during the game I don't think they were an issue.
